David Britt had to resign from County Council, he was just elected to the 4th Circuit seat on the S.C. Public Service Commission.
Another argument for term limits for Sheriffs. Most are skilled at keeping a majority of voters in their county, believing that they sit at the right hand of God. Term after term after term, the gullible voters re-elect them. By the time any Sheriff completes his 4th term, you can bank on him bring thoroughly corrupt. At this point or even before, they find it necessary to hold onto their place in office so that those who could destroy them if they spilled the beans on their operation, know the Sheriff still holds power over them. Look at Jimmy Metts. Look around at others who should have retired years or decades ago to enjoy their families and grandkids, but who cling to that office for dear life. There are reasons they cling, and it is not “love of the job” or “duty to the people”.
The walls are closing in! They’re running like cockroaches when the lights come on.
Spartanburg needs to be looking into Kevin Bobo as well.
How is Chuck Wright still getting a paycheck from Spartanburg County? Our community cannot stand for this and he needs to be let go immediately and pay back the money.
Look Chuckie everybody is going to get three hots and a cot just like you! HaHa Chuckie how stupid can you be.
A very well written and researched article. There is a much bigger story but it will probably never be written. The media in this area has traditionally been controlled by the power brokers of the community and has never been trustworthy. When you pull this thread all the way back it’s clear it would have the type of ending being witnessed. Chuck was never even considered for a jr supervisory position. His dream of becoming Sheriff was realized only after a series of fateful events such as a divided Republican primary and an incumbent who underestimated the appeal of a “ good ole boy”.
Chuck spent his retirement funds getting elected and was aided by someone on Council to offer to advance his coming salary to see him through selling the unprecedented deal as an opportunity to “ train” the successful candidate. Imagine that training a person by the current administration still in office for a winner of a political race who was unprepared. The larger story is the “System” the poor employees work under that is unchanged in time for centuries.Like a Monarch the leader and his minions operate without any oversight and consequence until something like this disaster happens.Scores of Alumni knew it would happen.Voters do some stupid things!
