GOVERNOR WON’T PULL TRIGGER ON GOVERNMENT-SUBSIDIZED ABORTIONISTS

Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal hasn’t exactly made waves in the 2016 “Republican” presidential race, but he has shown leadership back at home when it comes to defunding Planned Parenthood.

In fact Jindal is now dispensing advice to other governors regarding how to defund the government subsidized abortion provider in their states.

“At my direction, (the Department of Health and Hospitals) notified Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast of the termination of their Medicaid contract with the state of Louisiana, for cause,” Jindal wrote in a recent letter to Iowa governor Terry Branstad.

Jindal’s letter urged Branstad to look at the shocking undercover videos of Planned Parenthood executives discussing the organization’s gruesome fetal body parts scam – which was exposed earlier this year.

“I encourage you to watch these videos and to take similar action in your state as well,” Jindal wrote to Branstad.

Did Branstad take action?  No.

“The attorney general’s office has notified us that we don’t have reasons (to cancel Planned Parenthood contracts),” Branstad told The Des Moines Register.  “They haven’t violated their responsibilities under the grants that they have received from the state.”

Has Jindal sent similar letters to other governors?

We reached out to his office in Baton Rouge, Louisiana earlier this week in an effort to see if a Planned Parenthood letter had also been provided to S.C. governor Nikki Haley – another chief executive in an influential (for now) early-voting state.

Like Branstad, Haley has refused to defund Planned Parenthood – even though there is a clear path for her to do so, according to S.C. Rep. Donna Hicks of Spartanburg.  Hicks has been leading the S.C. General Assembly’s response to the Planned Parenthood scandal – and has not shied away from criticizing Haley.

“I’m so frustrated,” she told us this week.

Six weeks ago Hicks criticized Haley’s woefully inadequate response to the scandal – which basically consisted of calling for an investigation and threatening to close down a few clinics if they didn’t make changes.

No clinics were closed.  Oh, and the investigation Haley called for had already been conducted.

Hicks has repeatedly challenged Haley to defund Planned Parenthood – yet has received no response.

Will Jindal’s letter finally get Haley to take action?

We doubt it …

Haley has two objectives right now: Running for vice president and beating up on Donald Trump at the behest of her “Republican” establishment buddies.  Protecting the lives of the unborn from Planned Parenthood’s gruesome, illegal exploitation is obviously not on her radar.

Nor apparently, was it on the radar of the “Republican-controlled” U.S. Senate.

Shameful.

“What we are dealing with is a holocaust, pure and simple … and there’s a special place in hell for those profiting off of it,” we wrote when this scandal broke.  ” There’s also a special place in hell for the politicians and mainstream media outlets turning a blind eye to this story.”

That’s you, Nimrata.

The Hyde Amendment prevents taxpayer dollars from going to abortion services.
Planned Parenthood does not profit from the sale of fetal tissues. Hospitals, Universities, Morgues, Funeral Parlors all sell fetal tissues and most of those DO do it for profit. When a woman has a miscarriage or an abortion she signs a waiver as to what happens with the fetus. She decides and is disclosed the fees. Planned Parenthood operates like any other medical facility. Get it? Like ANY OTHER MEDICAL FACILITY. They just do it for the poor folks. Is that what you haters are so against? Poor folks?

Louisiana found out otherwise when they tried that argument. SC I suspect would be no different. So, all that’s left in your argument is that you don’t agree with something that is legal. Why should we defund based on that?

“Planned Parenthood does not profit from the sale of fetal tissues.”

What do you say about the videos released showing PP doctors negotiating the sale of fetal parts?

Reply

What do you say to the FACT that they do not profit from the sale of fetal tissues? What do you say to the FACT that the producers of the videos are under indictement by the 9th circuit court of appeals and the Los Angeles Superior Court to release all documents, including payroll for their ‘actors’ since they were not in fact workers of a biomedical lab?

“What do you say to the FACT that they do not profit from the sale of fetal tissues?”

Your wording is interesting, you do not deny they are selling fetal parts, you simply deny they are making money doing it.

Snopes seems to suggest that is unclear, yet you claim it’s “fact”:

http://m.snopes.com/fetal-tissue-sales/

“It appears to be legal, no matter how
much you charge,” Dr. Caplan said, adding that there appears to be little or no oversight of the processing fees. “It’s a very gray and musty area as to what you can charge.”

So are you uninformed or a liar?

Reply
Rocky Verdad October 1, 2015 at 10:45 pm

I shall play judge. Please rephrase counselor – at issue here is the validity of the claim that the “producers” of the videos are under indictement, and that the “workers” they interviewed are in fact Actors. You better hope not – that won’t look too good in the ads come Summer 2016.

Really? October 2, 2015 at 10:08 am

None of that changes what she claimed as fact, which is clearly not “fact”.

Snopes is a reliable third party source & no one is denying PP is selling fetal parts.

All the other shit around the controversy is just that.

notLindaBurke October 3, 2015 at 2:43 pm

One of the “actors” was not a fetus but a baby born too soon to survive whose image was lifted and inserted without the permission of his parents, who named him “Walter. Planned Parenthood had nothing to do with his life or death. The vile video content described by the vile “woman” candidate Carly Fiorina does not appear on any video associated with this smear of PP.

During the Oversight “hearing” at least two false “facts” were offered: one by Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) regarding the percentage of PP services/revenue are derived from abortion and the other by Chair @Jasoninthehouse Chaffetz (R-WY) in the slide he said was based on PP corporate reports. The whole thing is a disgrace, and I applaud Governor Haley’s reluctance to defund.

SJWick October 3, 2015 at 9:01 am

So one person says it is a gray area..if this guy had gone to the trouble to extrapolate the real cost and charges before making an assessment then his comments could carry validity. But he didn’t do that and I would have to question why he didn’t. If he didn’t seek the facts, he should have refrained from comment.

Julia Mercado October 5, 2015 at 11:02 am

They do sell fetal tissues to research facilites WITH consent. So do Universities, Morgues, Funeral Parlors and Cororners officers. It’s legal. Some of these entities profits from the sales. Some do not. PP is one that covers costs, they do not profit.

Give it a rest. Every state that has jumped on the phony video bandwagon as a reason to “defund” Planned Parenthood has lost in court. Virtually all of the federal funding that flows to PPFA affiliates is fee for service under Medicaid or Title X family planning.

Planned Parenthood in South Carolina received $297,904 from Medicaid during the past five years, generally for contraceptive-related services, including office visits, pap
smears and birth control, according to state Health and Human Services head Christian Soura.

Despite Rep. Hicks’ frustration, Medicaid recipients have a legal right to receive their services from any qualified provider, and nothing has been shown to disqualify any PPFA affiliate from being a Medicaid or Title X provider.

Those services may be provided at other locations, but do you think they could handle the new patient demand if PP was closed? Let’s find out, just for the record. Louisiana tried that argument and they are still wiping the egg of their faces. BTW, abortion is legal. You try to criminalize it through the “he who frames the issue controls it” strategy, but it is legal. If you have a problem with that then you know what to do. I’m disappointed in your duplicitousness. COL,you know better than to think that primary care providers (doctors) are going got take the time to provide theses types of services. That is not the level of care they provide. And, is “infant” is your (and many others) word, not a fact. The same strategy.

Reply
The Colonel October 1, 2015 at 4:56 pm

Hmmm,

Yes, infanticide is “the law of the land”, doesn’t change anything, it’s still infanticide.

Could county agencies, local providers and alternatives to (un)PP handle the inflow of patients? Yes. Here’s a non (un)PP organization that does just that – Sumter Pregnancy Center http://www.pregnancyoptionssumter.com/morningafterpillandRU486/tabid/634/Default.aspx

County Health Care Centers all over the state can prescribe birth control.

Don’t know what you’re referring to in Louisiana, the Mother Jones article looked at the list of providers not capacity and proved nothing.

Would doctors take the time to do this? Maybe, most of them will do anything you want for a dollar. My wife went to her primary care physician for her birth control before I got my nuts cut. For the most part, the doctor’s NPs and PAs handle it, Medicare (yes, Medicare), Medicaid and BCBS all reimburse for it. RU-486 is available over the counter.

Keeping your pecker in your pocket is of course free and works every time.

Reply
tomstickler October 1, 2015 at 5:20 pm

It saddens me to see you run off the rails like this, Colonel. RU-486 was approved by the FDA in 2000, but the manufacturer’s information for physicians explains: “Mifeprex [RU-486] will be supplied only to licensed physicians who sign and return a Prescriber’s Agreement … Mifeprex is a prescription drug, although it will not be available to the public through licensed pharmacies.”

With regard to County Health Centers providing the reproductive health services currently provided by Planned Parenthood: from my direct experience in Kentucky, where women had their choice of the County Health Clinic or a PPFA affiliated clinic, most preferred the standard of care at PP.

Reply
The Colonel October 1, 2015 at 5:26 pm

EllaOne and Plan B are both “heavy duty” birth control pills that prevent fertilization by delaying release of the egg. RU – 486 is a real abortifacient, Ella will actually work as one under the wrong circumstances.

Rakkasan October 2, 2015 at 5:31 am

Gosh, you sure know a lot about PP.

The Colonel October 2, 2015 at 7:04 am

Know your enemy…

Rakkasan October 2, 2015 at 7:36 am

It is apparent that you enemy is only nominally PP. It is clear your enemy is Roe v. Wade and women’s rights. You can’t overturn it, so the alternative is to undermine and sabotage the right to abortion at any opportunity. It doesn’t hurt that this issue will be stretched out right up to the election. It also serves the Right a very important purpose: it is a great distraction, along with Benghazi, from the issues most Americans are concerned about–and what ails the country. It’s an important distraction from voters realizing that the R party is so disjointed right now they couldn’t lead a dogfight–and they’ve proven they sure as hell can’t govern

The Colonel October 2, 2015 at 7:49 am

Nope, just (un)Planned Parenthood, primarily for their disingenuousness. I’ve never mentioned the other two abortion clinics (other than to point pour that there were only two others).

Abortion has “been stretched out as an issue” since Norma McCorvey was convinced to lie about her pregnancy in order to obtain an abortion. She was then unwittingly made into the pawn in Roe v Wade. Yes, abortion is the “law of the land” ever since justice Blackmun created a non existent Constitutional “right to privacy” out of whole cloth. Like a lot of other bad law, we’re probably suck with it but I don’t have to like it and damn sure won’t support it.

21stconfed October 2, 2015 at 8:47 am

see above comment.

21stconfed October 2, 2015 at 8:47 am

plan b and the “pill” both potentially cause an abortion (death of a human) by preventing the fertilized egg from implanting on the wall of the uterus. “…but, but a fertilized egg that hasn’t emplanted isn’t a human yet.” oh I am sorry, that’s right, if it hasn’t implanted on the wall of the woman’s uterus it can still turn into a monkey or dog…Bull, if it is fertilized it and left alone will come out of the womb a healthy human 9 months later. that’s right a human with a God-given rights and a soul.
Sorry colonel, a lot of times these two do act as you say and prevent the life from beginning but oftentimes ends the life.

tomstickler October 1, 2015 at 5:28 pm

Forgot to ask: is the Sumter Pregnancy Center a licensed and inspected reproductive health care facility that actually provides medical birth control services like PP or a County Health Center, or is it one of those “Help Centers” that try to talk women out of abortion?

nitrat October 1, 2015 at 6:49 pm

The last…what would you think with a name like that?

Rakkasan October 1, 2015 at 10:05 pm

Hmmm,

No it’s not infanticide because that would involve, um, infants, which I think most people would agree means children, which fetuses are not. Mothers Jones looked at the list of providers, not capacity? Funny. Hear’s the Mother Jones headline I found:

“There Are Thousands of Clinics That Could Replace Planned Parenthood, Right? Nope.”

And, interesting that you recommend these poor women go to doctors and clinics for these services. Until ACA most of them likely didn’t have insurance and I’m sure many still don’t. So it seems like for the Right it’s a “both sides of the mouth” argument: we don’t want you to have ACA healthcare but go to the doctor and pay out of pocket for health care so we can defund PP. Yes, your wife went to her Primary Care Physician for BC pills. You have insurance–not just for the pills, which, are cheap, but also the visit. Yeah, they’ll do it for the dollar, but that begs the question of “who has the dollar”? I know you do, but then there are the PP clients. Don’t know what I’m referring to in Louisiana? Odd, you are typically exceptionally quick at being able to Google background on about any topic and report back as though you already knew that.

Yes, there are places that can provide some of the clinical services that PP provides. But, who is out there specifically for poor women?

I realize you are passionate about this issue, but I’m with tomstickler here. You’ve run off the rails.

fetus, embryo, infant…all semantics (logically false argument) for HUMAN; murder.

21stconfed October 2, 2015 at 8:31 am

don’t forget colonel, this is a ruse. I am pretty sure any doctor(obgyn) can do an abortion. we were offered one at an upstate regional hospital, not some clinic (we never went to one). This is non-profit (like uPP) and the CEO makes 3x what cecile richards makes. Abortions happen at a lot of places that uPP doesn’t operate. If we really wanted to make them(baby killers) hurt, the state could refuse non-profit status for any facility or governing organization that conducts elective abortions. it would not be a lot but at least they would have to start paying state income taxes. I know, I know using one evil tool against another, ends justifies the means etc, etc. but as long as the legislature does not have the backbone to get rid of PP funding or income tax why not let these things work against one another?? it’s called strategy man, come’on you are high ranking officer you should know these things.

Bobby Jindal has not stopped Medicaid funding for PP

Branstad said Tuesday that he doesn’t believe the state has the legal authority to defund Planned Parenthood, according to the Des Moines Register. He was quoted in the newspaper as saying, “The attorney general’s office has notified us that we don’t have reasons; they haven’t violated their responsibilities under the grants that they have received from the state.”

Jindal’s legal authority for pulling Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood in Louisiana has also come under question. When Department of Helath and Hospital attorneys were grilled by a federal judge about whether the state could pull Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood without cause, DHH withdrew its original termination letters and filed a new defunding notice that accused Planned Parenthood of violating state administrative rules.

The Jindal administration’s new approach is still being resisted by Planned Parenthood, this time through an administrative appeal. A DHH spokeswoman said the appeal hasn’t been filed yet — Planned Parenthood has 30 days to file the paperwork — and that could result in a lengthy process that could stretch through the fall, if not later.

“It’s a long process,” DHH spokeswoman Olivia Watkins said in an email. She added that “it is possible that this extends into the next administration.”

Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood Gulf States is still able to bill the state for treating the 5,200 patients it treats at facilities in Baton Rouge and New Orleans while the appeal is pending. – The Times – Picayunne Sept. 30, 2015

That issue was resolved many years ago in the Hyde Amendment in 1976. So, that is not the issue

So you think an amendment has “resolved” things eh?

I guess there’s no one against the way things are then, it’s all made up. The amendment made everyone happy and all the hub-bub is for nothing because the amendment fixed everything.

No. Nothing has been resolved. The Hyde amendment is just the best truce that could be negotiated. This Planned Parenthood disgrace is yet another salvo in the war against women’s right to choose what to do with their bodies.

Any woman who reads this blog and wants any of you yahoos or pols to decide that question for her deserves to live with the consequences. Whatever women (and their doctors) decide for themselves is likely to be better than what any state pol, including Hicks, comes up with.

No. Will Folks, if he wrote this, is not ‘better than this’ and never has been.

Better yet, Fits, go adopt one of these “unadoptable” emotionally damaged DSS or DJJ “group home kids” and get Your Heart and Home broken. If you’re lucky, the kid will burn down your neighbor’s house, not yours. You Will Pay to keep this kid, then adult, in Prison (since we’ve done away with public mental health facilities) for as long as you (he) lives. Go for it Fits. Socratese said it: Not to be Born is Best!

That’s you, Nimrata.

and your consistent defense of Haley under all circumstances is ideological rather than substantive.

Seriously, she could execute a puppy on live TV and I bet you would be here to defend her.

Here is one for you to defend…why is her college roommate been put in charge of SCDOT?

What is the matter with you? Even the idiot who made the videos has now admitted they were deliberately doctored and are, essentially, an intentional fraud. While I do not always agree with you, I had thought you were truthful to some degree. This sham has cost millions and millions of taxpayer dollars and is built upon a foundation of lies.

Planned parenthood services men and women. Most of it is STD screenings/education, free contraceptives, birth control, prenatal vitamins, vasectomies, education, and 3% of funding is provided for materials related to abortion (it doesn’t pay for actual abortions, that’s paid for by the woman on an income basis.) Education is something we don’t receive in South Carolina because we are taught that sex is wrong until marriage, and the only way to prevent pregnancy is to not have sex. Well, guess what? There’s a pretty high rate of teenage pregnancies in this state. There’s a high rate of sexually transmitted diseases in this state. The fact is, regardless of religious affiliation, to prevent unwanted pregnancies is to stress that sex is okay, pregnancy is preventable with contraceptives and birth control, and to not be ashamed. Teach kids to put on condoms, because your baby isn’t going to stay abstinent.

Nikki usualy makes her decisions by sticking a wet finger up inthe air. If she ain’t down on Planet Parenthood, it’s because they were HER Abortion Services Provider. At least once. Yeah.
