“GOP IS DEAD” CHORUS GAINS ANOTHER VOICE …

|| By FITSNEWS || Dating back to the 2010 revelation of his affair with then-S.C. Rep. Nikki Haley, this website’s founding editor Will Folks has been in the crosshairs of RedState.com and its editor, Erick Erickson.

And vice versa …

If you care about the history between the two sites and their respective owners, feel free to brush up …

Anyway, we’ve been critical of RedState.com because we believe the website elevates faux conservatives (like Haley) without bothering to check their math.  That’s bad for the process because it creates a perception that some elected officials are “conservative” when in reality they are anything but.

This week, though, Erickson has penned a column which we believe is worthy of your consideration.  In it, he reaches the same conclusion we reached about the “Republican” party (except, of course, we reached it several years ago).

That conclusion?  That the GOP – like Zed in the movie Pulp Fiction – is dead.

From Erickson’s piece …

The repeated betrayals of Republican leaders have led to the rise of Donald Trump. The petulance of the party’s congressional leaders who have spent more energy fighting conservative attempts to hold them to their word than fighting Barack Obama now have to fight to wrest control from Trump. Trump, at least presently, is immune from establishment attacks because the party leaders have lost all their credibility. A party that will not stand up to stop tax payer funds going to an organization that pulls whole children out of freezers to sell as scrap is not a party with the moral clarity to tell Donald Trump he is fired.

But there is more to this than meets the eye. More and more polling shows the biggest group of voters who hate the Republican Party are the Republicans’ own conservative voters. In growing numbers they have driven down the popularity ratings of Congress. Instead of trying to recover popularity with their base, the Republicans have convinced the Chamber of Commerce to spend millions of dollars defeating conservative Republican “troublemakers” in the 2016 primary cycle. Why join the base when the GOP thinks it can beat its base?

This then is why the Republican Party as we know it is coming to an end with only one way to avoid the splits that doomed the Whigs. When, not if, Donald Trump fades away, the party leaders will conclude they beat him and the crazy base. They will, like the Bourbons of France, learn nothing and forget nothing. Instead of realizing their broken promises and failures of leadership led to the rise of men like Donald Trump, they will conclude his decline means they need keep no promises.

Amen to that – all that.  In fact that’s what we’ve been screaming for years.

There’s only so many times a party (and those who run under its banner) can say one thing and do the other before the whole thing comes crashing down.

We’re glad Erickson has finally figured it out …

My takeaway from that is this:

Trump is not the problem. His rise in the party is a symptom of the problem.

Yes, yes it is. They’ve courted “stupid” so long that “normal left” and “stupid’s” pitching a fit.

It’s not having ignored “conservative” voters that’s the problem. It’s giving “conservative” voters too much attention, when any functioning moron could see the “conservative” base had become a group of nuts, most them birthers, who shouted that Obama was a Muslim, that Michelle Obama’s a lesbian, and let’s not forget the all time “conservative” statement – keep your government hands off my Medicare. Irrational, hatefilled voters who longed and pined away for 1982. Well Lover Boy’s old, and Cheap Trick can be found on the State Fair circuit. Sooner or later they were going to have to face them. Should have done it in 2009, but instead the enabled Dumb and Dipper and this is where we are. If you took what’s left of the GOP, draw a graph, low to the left, high to the right. In the middle draw down a line. To the right, the largest area, is nutz and cream and they repesent the vast majority of the “base” and are all over the age of 55. (Sorry Colonel). To the left, the very small area, is the normal people, who are under 55. Notice the difference. You’re party is nutz and cream heaving. All the younger, rational and intelligent voters have left.

Since Obama was elected Republicans have picked up 11 senate seats,75 house seats, have 34 governorships and 1500 state legislature seats.

The Democrat Party is finished if they can’t find a way for illegals to vote in the next decade.

ALL those illegal E/O’s on immigration will be gone with a Republican President.
ACA will collapse on it’s own-Medicaid is bankrupting the states
gay marriage was a good thing for the Republican Party. It defined the Democrat Party as the party of perversion…

I had a lot of respect for Eric till he “uninvited “Trump to Red State. Let all sides have their say and let the people decide. Trump is saying what a large number of REAL Republicans have been saying for a long time. STAND FOR SOMETHING. The mushy middle moderates in the establishment GOP are no different than the mushy middle moderates in the DNC. Trump is telling it like it is and they can’t stand it. I thought Eric was better than he has turned out to be.

But the fact remains, Trump is a pompous, egotistical dickhead. Also, only marginally conservative on most issues.

“pompous, egotistical, dickheads” You just described 75% of all politicians.

Ding Dong the GOP is Dead. . . I’m not in Kansas anymore?. Oh wait, it was just a dream. Well I guess we have to wake from our happy place at some point. Those old farts will be around for another decade or so, before they all die off. But they can’t live forever, so there is always hope for the future.

RogueElephant August 28, 2015 at 4:28 pm

Our hope fro the future is the number of melinials that are showing up at Republican meetings. There for a while the sliver haired crowd was about it, but the last 8 years has younger people asking, what do I have to look forward to ? The idea of college debt, no jobs, down economy etc. has them asking for a better chance at life. The GOP is where that better life starts.

Rocky you are lying:
Democrat Larry Sabato has the following (best in the business) for 2016:
1. Senate…51-47 REPUBLICANS- 2 toss ups leaning Republican
2. House….Republicans HOLD House +/-2 seats
3.Governorships….Have 34….add 2

Read it and weep!

vicupstate August 30, 2015 at 6:34 pm

Larry Sabato is a REPUBLICAN and always has been.

WI and IL are very likely to flip from R to D in the Senate. The GOP has a much larger field to defend as well. Whichever party wins the White House is likely to win the Senate as well, as MOST of the close races all break the same way. Governorship in MO will likely to the same.

Dr_Tesla August 29, 2015 at 10:29 am

I don’t see how Trump is any more liberal than any of the other Republicans running. He certainly the most conservative on immigration.

What’s funny is that it’s Right Wing goofs like Erickson who have helped “kill” the Republican Party.

Then one of the “killers” announces the “death?”

Hilarious!

Don’t worry Erick, you and Dylann Roofs buddies over at the White Citizens Council can form a new party from the ashes of the GOP and a lot of Fits posters will be signing up!
