Good for him. It’s nice to see a politician who isn’t itching to send other people’s children off to war. Like nearly all republicans and commenters on this site.

You would be surprised how many conservative commenters on this site have served in the military, have been in combat, and understand things like “Full Battle Rattle”, “OPSEC”, “Need to Know”, “Phase Lines”, and “Sectors of Fire.”
Most service members are conservatives not democrats. We know that the Democratic Party is one big case of “SNAFU.”

Still quick to send other people’s children to war.
Again and again and again…

This isn’t Vietnam. There isn’t a draft. Anyone that goes to war chose to join the Military.

Funny but it’s the Dumocrats who the only ones talking about we needed this “deal” (capitulation) or go to war. Nobody else is mentioning going to war other than the Dumocrats. Why are they so eager to give nukes to the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, along with $150 Billion AND letting them “self-inspect” their own sites while we are barred at the same time?

Sir, thank you for your service. A few facts though. First, this is not a Treaty, it is a multi-lateral agreement, and by that fact, didn’t need to be approved by Congress at all. Obama agreed to work with the Senate to establish a regime where Congress could have their say, but as you point out, it was negotiated with Corker who set out a process where it was very unlikely that the Senate could kill it. Did Corker stap the GOP in the back? No. In reality, Obama was under no requirement to have Congress vote on it. Having Congress bitch, but tacitly approve the deal by not killing the deal, gives it more legitimacy. And for the record, a good many Foreign Service Officers and diplomats did not serve in the military, and therefore, having a non-miliatry person serving as head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committe is not odd. Remember, it’s not the Senate Armed Forces Committee.

With you on this Rocky. In my opinion,Obama is a lawless, ‘closet’ Radical Islamic Muslim that hates America,Israel and the Jewish people.

He was going to find a way to give Iran nukes so they can incinerate Israel about the time his BILLION $ library/’closet’ mosque opens up in Minneapolis?

Lied about what? You’re gonna have to explain that one.

The Colonel August 27, 2015 at 4:25 pm

Er, uhm, not so much, Treaty: A treaty is an agreement under international law entered into by actors in international law, namely sovereign states and international organizations. A treaty may also be known as an (international) agreement, protocol, covenant, convention, pact, or exchange of letters, among other terms.

Any agreement between nation is a treaty. That wad the framer’s intent and that is the common use of the word.

Reply
erneba August 27, 2015 at 4:30 pm

Will this decided in the Courts…Treaty versus some sort of “agreement?”
Doing something this important should certainly be decided by other than a small group in the White House.
Valerie Jarrett says, “Call it an agreement so I can go to the movies and you can go play golf.”

Soft Sigh from Hell August 27, 2015 at 5:00 pm

When the US and USSR agreed not to train their naval guns on each other at sea, did that minor but important agreement need a Senate vote? Seems hard to believe that such matters did or do. What then is the threshold for “treaty?”

Reply
The Colonel August 27, 2015 at 5:12 pm

No, as the Commander in Chief the President has the authority to order that without seeking approval. What we have here is a multilateral agreement between nations and it clearly rises to the level of a treaty as spelled out in the US Constitution.

Reply
Rocky Verdad August 27, 2015 at 5:20 pm

And as such, then the Congress will have their say. They were so happy to do so, they even changed the rules on this one.

The Colonel August 27, 2015 at 7:43 pm

The Framer’s original idea was that the treaty got a non-vetoable yes or no decision

Rocky Verdad August 27, 2015 at 5:18 pm

Honestly Col – what international organizations was Ben Franklin thinking of – the UN?

Reply
The Colonel August 27, 2015 at 6:20 pm

The Congress of Vienna, founded in 1815, was probably the first “international organization” but Franklin being Franklin, probably foresaw the creation of IOs while swimming across a pond holding onto a kite. Remember, he was an ambassador among his myriad other roles.

Reply
Rocky Verdad August 28, 2015 at 9:42 am

Of NGOs. I’m going to go with this – if it’s a bi-lateral agreement, it’s a treaty. If it’s a multi-lateral agreement, it’s an agreement.

The Colonel August 28, 2015 at 9:44 am

Ever heard of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, a multi lateral “agreement” between 28 countries…

Bill August 27, 2015 at 5:59 pm

So , what achievable deal would you have structured? Or do you just propose we invade?

We need them Colonel. They are what they are – the largest country in the region, with most diversified economy and potentially the country we can leverage the most to get some resolution to outstanding crap like ISIS and Taliban.

Plus I’d like to visit Tehran someday – had family stationed at the embassy there in ’78-’79 – they said it was really pretty.

The Colonel August 27, 2015 at 7:41 pm

I agree that it’d be fun to visit. Cuba’s on my list as well, may get to do that in February.

Col.Flagg August 27, 2015 at 8:37 pm

Present Castro a confederate flag and then you two RINO”s burn it and swap stories about how evil America is.

Confederate Loon August 28, 2015 at 8:23 am

You know who else thought the United States of America was evil?

That little old country that flew the confederate flag.

Col.Flagg August 27, 2015 at 8:42 pm

You and The Colonel bring the VETERANS back an ISIS Flag and IED as a reminder to our disabled hero’s of your visit and love affair with the terrorists in Tehran.

Please tell us if you were able to hear the screams of the Christian prisoners being tortured for loving Christ.

Both of you are a disgrace.

Rocky Verdad August 28, 2015 at 9:40 am

No, face reality. Col. Flagg, by your standard, we should have never reopened our embassy in Vietnam. Germany should still be occupied, and Japan the same. You all got suckered into that fight over there, and now you’ve learned a valuable lesson, your blood and valor are worth to DC, pretty much nothing.

Bill August 27, 2015 at 6:36 pm

So you think the US can do that unilaterally?

The Colonel August 27, 2015 at 7:40 pm

No, we need allies who respect our President and Secretary of State and who will participate as faithful partners.

Bill August 27, 2015 at 6:38 pm

And what do you mean by crumble?

The Colonel August 27, 2015 at 7:38 pm

Had we actually enforced the sanctions and held our “allies” to the same standard we wouldn’t be at this juncture, the Iranians would have kicked the mullahs out.

erneba August 27, 2015 at 4:21 pm

Currently, in Washington, it appears we have the most unresponsive, intellectually crippled, ass-kissing set of Republicans in my lifetime.
The Republican Senate under Mitch McConnell of Kentucky seems no different than the Senate under Harry Reid of Nevada. It is becoming apparent that there is not the sightliest difference between being a “R” or a “D” in Washington these days.

Corker, Graham, Boehner, and more seemingly are modled after “Senator Ellen Love” in the Matt Helm book by Donald Hamilton, “The Intriguers”. As I seem to recall, Love was all about betraying her country for political gain. In the book, she survived, but her career was rightfully destroyed. Too bad we don’t have Matt Helm or his government agency to save us from these scum in real life.

MSNBC’s Morning Joe reacted Thursday to the three most common words people think of when Hillary Clinton comes to mind being, in order, “liar,” “dishonest” and “untrustworthy,” according to a new Quinnipiac poll.

The question did not give any choices for words, showing how cemented the perception of Clinton as deceitful has become with the public in the wake of her private email scandal.

“These are unprompted, by the way,” MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said.

Yep!
