ISIS’ Ridiculous “American Attack”

|| By FITSNEWS || The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) – America’s newest enemy in a perpetual “War on Terror” – has claimed responsibility for its first terrorist attack on U.S. soil.

The question is … “why?”  The attack was a total bust … and there’s zero evidence ISIS had anything to do with it.  Or even knew about it.

On Sunday evening two men – 31-year-old Elton Simpson and 34-year-old Nadir Soofi – attacked the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas.  The attack was launched because an anti-Islam group – the American Freedom Defense Initiative – was hosting a cartoon competition featured controversial depictions of the prophet Muhammed.

Simpson and Soofi were no doubt hoping to reprise the bloody attack on the satirical publication Charlie Hebdo in Paris four months ago … in which twelve people were slaughtered.

They failed …

Upon arriving at the facility, Simpson and Soofi began firing at a security guard – wounding him in the ankle.  Garland police responded by opening fire on the two shooters – killing them both.

“Badda boom, badda bing,” as they say …

Astoundingly, ISIS believes this is a result to trumpet …

“This fair was conducting a competition of offensive cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad,” a statement from the organization reads. “The brothers were killed during an exchange of fire, and we ask God to welcome them into heaven.  And we say to America … that what is coming is worse and more bitter, and you will see from the soldiers of the Islamic State what ill will come.”

“The Islamic State soldiers will inflict harm on you with the grace of God,” the group added. “The future is just around the corner.”

The future is just around the corner?

Sheesh …

We’re not saying America shouldn’t be vigilant as it relates to credible threats against the homeland.  It absolutely should.  In fact that’s one of the handful of core functions the federal government ought to perform.  But this botched attack isn’t evidence of ISIS at work in America – it’s evidence of opportunism on the part of the shooters and the organization.

Of course the more America meddles where it doesn’t belong – using money it doesn’t have – the more likely our country is to experience real terrorist attacks.

Our war mongering leaders are orgasmic right now.

Everyone should be carrying a gun. Let ISIS come. I can’t blame them.

That being said, our government is the one that helped create them and is on track to lose yet again another overseas adventure, just like Vietnam, because people fight harder when their homeland is invaded- so let ISIS come here and see what it’s like for once.

I agree. We should bomb everyone who might pose a threat without asking questions as to why.

That you used Grand Tango’s “liberaltarian” moniker is a perfect start to your post, as we know stupidity is to follow.

Always the straw-man of “bomb everyone” whenever someone calls out the fact that something needs to be done about the war being waged on American culture and society. How about let’s start by calling it the fascist and freedom-damaging ideology it is first? Leave the straw-men out of it.

Reply
Stupidity all around May 5, 2015 at 10:09 am

“the war being waged on American culture and society.”

If you think there is a war being waged on “America culture and society”(which is dubious claim to start) for “no reason” that your problem is not with me or a “straw man”, but reality.

The reality is that these two nut jobs felt some imperative to lash out because another group of “nut jobs” decided to insult their idol.

They are all stupid.

Even further though, rest assured that those in government will use this instance to step up more overseas wars, which was my point is bringing up “bombing everyone”.

Daniel Boome May 5, 2015 at 10:28 am

You missed the part where CNN made sure to blur out the actual paintings when reporting this story. That’s what I’m talking about. That’s the war we are losing, kowtowing to petty sensibilities for fear that we might “offend” and “incite”. You just think because it’s a couple of “nut jobs” and an “isolated incident” that it doesn’t mean anything and anybody who points out that it is part of a problematic pattern must want to go to war with them. Eventually, caving to all the “nut jobs” will become a large problem and we will be crafting laws based on their demands. That would be a legitimate use of this instance, not ” tostep up more overseas wars” (which nobody ever said to begin with). If your point is that these incidents induce a bit of paranoia in some, then I might be willing to agree with that to a certain extent. But we’ve got to quit pretending like this is meaningless. Christians would never get away with all these “isolated incidents” and be dismissed as “nut jobs”.

Rocky May 5, 2015 at 10:31 am

Daniel – CNN wouldn’t show negros hanging from a tree either, even through the KKK feels it’s their right to freedom on expression. But Fox might – unless Jeb called them to say not to.

Daniel Boome May 5, 2015 at 10:37 am

You think a depiction of dead bodies hanging from trees and innocuous (to most rational people) paintings of an Arab nomad is the same thing?

Rocky May 5, 2015 at 12:48 pm

Guess it depends how you view the innocuous paintings – eh? Some people think paintings of a lynching are rather artistic.

Stupidity all around May 5, 2015 at 10:34 am

“But we’ve got to quit pretending like this is meaningless. Christians would never get away with all these “isolated incidents” and be dismissed as “nut jobs”.”

You and I agree here, we just differ on what the “causes” are.

You are claiming a war on “American culture & society” without specifically stating the “why”.(and I don’t think it’s a war on American culture & society, unless you want to call what these two did a “war”…if you want to separate them from the actions the US government engages in overseas, which most here want to do)

So ask yourself, “Why?”

Are you in the Bush camp? Do “they” hate us for our freedoms?

I’m not buying that argument. Even further, I’m going to draw a distinction between what these two nut did and what other practitioners of their faith are doing overseas.

Daniel Boome May 5, 2015 at 10:41 am

This is all we do is ask “Why?” There is no good reason or answer. To answer your question, no, I’m not aligned with the Bush doctrine that ” ‘they’ hate us for our freedom”, even though I agreed with his approach. It’s way deeper than that. In fact, I think it goes back to Islam’s origins and Muhummad’s desire to spread his message by sword and the need to stamp out any dissent from the Jewish and polytheistic tribes around the Mecca and Medina areas. It is ultimately an imperialistic mindset with a number of social pathologies, that’s why it can’t be reasoned with.

TroubleBaby May 5, 2015 at 10:43 am

“This is all we do is ask “Why?” There is no good reason or answer. ”

THAT, is complete bullshit.

Let me know if I ever do that.

TroubleBaby May 5, 2015 at 10:58 am

Seemed like your did to me, with your “there is no good reason or answer” argument followed by ” I think it goes back to Islam’s origins and Muhummad’s desire to spread his message by sword” and ” It is ultimately an imperialistic mindset with a number of social pathologies, that’s why it can’t be reasoned with.”

Seems pretty specific to me.

Daniel Boome May 5, 2015 at 11:12 am

I’m talking about the militants and those who believe in a worldwide caliphate. The ideology behind that goes back to Islam’s origins, regardless of whether or not all Islam’s adherents espouse it is as their overarching worldview. I was merely trying to explain where I believe the militants ideology comes from. I would love to be able to say that it has been corrupted over time, but unfortunately the more history I read regarding it’s origins and the genesis of Islamic civilization lead, I’m lead to believe that it’s militant adherents take their cues from events/philosophies that took place in the seventh century. That doesn’t mean I’m indicting the other 1.5 billion, but it does mean that it’s something that we and they should take into consideration.

Reply

No, it was an isolated violent act by two nuts against a group of other nuts who went out of their way to gin up an incident. So blatent was it that even Fox refuses to give the organizer of the event any real air time. Wil is right, ISIS had nothing to do with, except to jump in two days later and try and say they were behind it. But they probably were not.

True, and there’s yet another (more important) angle- this line, “…and there’s zero evidence ISIS had anything to do with it. Or even knew about it” is very telling.

Again, the Thomas Ravenel Correspondence Course entitled “Deep Thoughts on US Foreign Policy and National Defense” (available on CD at Cato.com) has performed an epic fail. The days of centrally located and managed terror networks (e.g., al Qaeda in the 90’s and early 2000’s) are history. Asymmetric warfare lectures aside, our advantages in freezing assets, eavesdropping / ELINT, and the Bush / Obama warheads-on-foreheads program pretty effectively killed that era. As is usually the case, the other side didn’t just fold up the tent and go home, they adapted.

Anyone who’s read even a cursory bit on terror over the past ten years knows that the new normal is the “leaderless jihad,” which, while not as effective at mounting large scale coordinated attacks such as 9/11, is very effective at creating crappy little ops like the Garland, Texas nitwittery. The new networks specialize in spreading their whacked out theology via social media and the web, and they’re very effective at both recruiting ground troops for the centralized war (e.g., ISIL) and helping nitwits self-radicalize wherever they are.

ISIL didn’t train, equip, and ship these two clowns to Texas, but the theory that were intimately involved in their radicalization is a near-certainty. The local radicalized cells are told to attack the US “when and where they are” in accordance with the fatwas and general ideology / theology espoused by al Qaeda and ISIL. No time to hammer it out here, but the vast majority of recent attacks fall into this categorization. In perhaps the best known case, al Qaeda didn’t send Nidal Hasan over to Fort Hood in 2009; he was already there. they were, however, partly responsible for that attack. If you don’t believe me, ask Hasan. He’s telling anyone who will listen…

“I watched Pam prior, and it looked like she’s just taunting everybody,” Said Trump. “What is she doing drawing Muhammad? According to what I read on some important and truthful blogs, the Governor of Texas is mobilizing the Texas National Guard to monitor US troops in multiple military bases in the Lone Star State. God help us all, the Muslim Obama is moving to overthrow the government and make us all bend to his will.

I find it odd that many Americans when polled (trending to older folks and those who lean right) name ISIS as the most pressing danger and issue above everything else.

This is America. When you think about the logistics and actual capability those assholes will never be able to “invade” America and take it over. The best they can do is round up a couple of sand thugs every so often and launch an attack here and there. That’s all they got.

Should we be vigilant? Absolutely we should, but c’mon people….these are not the great Mongol hordes.
