IT’S ALL ABOUT THE EDUCATION, BABY

|| By FITSNEWS ||  Straight out of fantasy land … U.S. president Barack Obama has got another deal for you!

The liberal leader – apparently unaware his government is $18 trillion in the hole – is proposing taxpayers subsidize the first two years of community college for anyone “willing to work for it.”  Great … here we go again.

“Everyone understands that education is the key to success for our kids in the 21st century, but what we also understand is that it’s not just for kids. We also have to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to constantly train themselves for better jobs, better wages and better benefits,” Obama said in announcing his proposal.

No, no, no, no, no, no … NO.

Don’t get us wrong, education absolutely is the key to success … but if you think government is key to guaranteeing a good education, think again.  And if you think massive government investments produce equality of opportunity – spend some time in South Carolina.

Jasper County, specifically …

More to the point, the existing higher education bureaucratic complex is already heavily subsidized by government … not only in the costly budgets of state-supported institutions of “higher learning” but also in the $1 trillion (and expanding) student loan bubble.

Not surprisingly, status quo “Republicans” in South Carolina – who are really nothing but Democrats in disguise – were warm to Obama’s idea.

“I am not sure how he proposed we pay for this, but I will say, it has more value than a whole lot of other programs we could do without to create a pool of money for this effort,” Upstate GOP consultant Chip Felkel wrote.

Well guess what … he didn’t propose how to pay for it.

Of course that’s no big deal for “Republicans” like Felkel, who never met a tax hike they didn’t lobby for …

Look: Free college would be awesome.  It would help millions of people.  Nobody’s arguing that.  And if it really were free, it would probably have some tremendously positive effects on the economy.

But like “free” health care, “free” college is not  free.  In fact, if the administration’s estimates are to be believed his latest plan would cost $34.2 billion a year – on top of the billions already being blown on higher education (which we hate to say, is not a core function of government).

That’s money that doesn’t go into the economy … where real jobs and real opportunities are created.

In SC they refer to the first two years of college as “remediation” for the failure of the schools to teach students how to reed and right.

LMAO!!!! Bless his heart!!! Comrade Obama gonna give everybody 2 years of college for FREE!! 18 TRILLION in debt (8 TRILLION when Czar Obama declared himself King).

Just like in Obamacare you could keep your doctor, hospital and your insurance costs would go down with lower deductibles and co-pays!!!

I used to believe Obama was just an narcissistic ,ideological, ‘closet muslim’ with a marxist world-view-I am beginning to believe he is insane.

Oddly Flip my deductible is the same, my premiums just went down like $27 a month, I have the same doctor I’ve had for 8 years, and – I have a 6-figure job. Unemployment just fell to 5.6%, stocks at 18,000 and climbing, wagings going up, best job growth in the last 12 months since 1999. Pretty much, by most measures – a success. How ’bout you, sport? You post constantly here yourself, now that The SNOB is dead. Supposedly while going back and forth endlessly between Yellow Springs OH, Myrtle Beach SC, Orlando FL and Las Vegas NV. What kind of job lets you do that? Can’t be a travel writer. They’d make you travel to other places. Plus you can’t write for shit.

flip(original) January 9, 2015 at 12:31 pm

Hi Buz. How are you today? You seem ‘chippy’ and ‘spirited’ this morning.
Been in mom’s purse again and off to the liquor store or did you stumble upon another scandalous crime commited by an evil wrong doer in your sic mind while watching Dragnet last night?

Buz Martin January 9, 2015 at 12:52 pm

I only drink red wine, at the most two glasses a couple of times a week. I don’t get it from the liquor store, usually, I imbibe at restaurants, along with a meal and full glass of water for each glass of wine. I don’t touch my mother’s purse, don’t need to, I’m making an adequate living. ‘Bout to get a lot better, too.

These are facts. You are still regurgitating bullshit from bullshitters (who btw, still hate your guts) on a dead blog from several years ago. It was all fabricated then, and you are not creative enough to fabricate anything new out of it.

YOU are still playing the same fucking games you did on The SNOB. Multiple fake identities, with one to which you keep returning, trying to smear people who stand up to your bullshit, etc. You have lied more times than I can count, you have presented absurdly false versions of reality — even you own reality — constantly.

You seem to want to be taken seriously, but there is no “you” to take seriously. Most of the people here who are basically anonymous, using fake and often funny names, stick with one identity, one storyline about themselves. It’s easier to believe they are genuine. You? Not at all.

Total bullshtter. I almost said “bullshit artist”, but that is giving you far too much credit. Even when you succeed as being an irritating troll, you suck at it. I could easily invent a far more interesting irritating troll. I would fashion it from cow shit — and that would be an upgrade.

Again, have a pleasant weekend.

Buz Martin January 9, 2015 at 6:48 pm

You know full well what I’m talking about. All those so-called important and successful busnessmen you now seem to worship despised you worse than I ever did. It amused me the way they twisted themselves into knots with anger at you, constantly telling you to go away and leave “their” blog alone. You called them drunks, attacked their political stances if they were not sufficiently far right for you, and generally dogged the shit out of them. Then you’d start whining that somebody had “hacked” you, or were stalking you online. Here’s a hint: You cannot stalk a nameless troll, or one that uses a variety of fake names.

Your story kept changing, too. And you’d agree to meet some of the “SNOB Summiteers” in person, privately, or show up in person at one of the events — only to cancel out right before, usually with the excuse of being stalked or hacked again.

You “left” the blog a hundred times, at least, but soon returned with another fake name, or as “pogo” again — or “pogo2”, “pogo (original)”. etc.

You’ve displayed exactly the same pattern here.

You don’t impress me, you don’t really anger me, and in no way do you scare me. Annoy? Yes. You annoy everybody except Big T, and he is a match for you in total lunacy. I’ll keep calling out your bullshit.

“Oh, DON”T FUCK WITH ME”, you said in the original version of that message I got in email notification. Please know this: Your threats don’t impress me a bit. Due to your doing that, as an anonymous freak with myriad IDs, I, as a real, known entity, reserve the right to respond in kind, at a time of my choosing. I do have almost the entire archive of The SNOB for the two and a half years I was on it, and have no compunction at all about posting numerous examples of the “pogo behavior.”

What is more important is more people are covered now, and lifetime maximums and preexisting conditions (i.e. privatized debt/death panels) are gone. Sucks that we still have the for-profit middlemen sucking our blood but at least it is a slight improvement from what we had before.

SC rejected the Medicaid expansion, as did several other states. Any upticks in numbers of insured people in those states is purely on the exchange or employer-based platforms, which you have to pay for, even if you do get subsidies on the exchange.

Swing and a miss.

flip(original) January 9, 2015 at 12:23 pm

No. The increase in insured NATIONALLY is because of the expansion of Medicaid-and these people can’t find services.
The insurance is worthless.

Reply
flip(original) January 9, 2015 at 12:11 pm

Problem is under Obama the fraud started-like every other thing Obama has his hands on.

DENVER (CBS4) – A federally regulated program providing free cellphone service and phones to the poor and needy in Denver appears to be riddled with waste, fraud and abuse, according to an undercover CBS4 Investigation.

The $2 billion a year Lifeline program has handed out more than 13 million free cellphone plans across the country in the first six months of this year. In Colorado, the program handed out more than 117,000 free cellphone plans in the first half of this year, or about 20,000 cellphones every month.

The free phones and their wireless plans are paid for by a monthly tax on your cellphone, called the Universal Service Tax. Although the Lifeline wireless program has been around since 2005 and started under president George W. Bush, it has exploded under President Obama’s administration and the phones are often referred to as “Obamaphones.”

You used to be a challenge. I am beginning to think you are as dumb and uninformed as ‘6 figures’ Rocky!!! :-) LMAO!!!!

Smirks January 9, 2015 at 12:22 pm

The fraud has been there from the beginning, it’s just that when cell phone companies figured out how much they could rip off John Q. Taxpayer they went crazy for it, and nothing was there to stop them.

Again, thanks Dubya.

Meanwhile, reform was passed in 2012 to attempt to save up to $2 billion on the lifeline program:

http://www.fcc.gov/lifeline

So yeah, Dubya fucked shit up and Obama’s having to fix it. Surprise!

You still have yet to condemn Dubya or the FCC under his administration for starting this program you despise so much. Gee, what a surprise there, too?

Oh my!!!

flip(original) January 9, 2015 at 12:25 pm

Read the article. Facts just don’t matter to you. Under Obama the program ‘exploded’ with fraud…just like the food stamp program exploded with numbers and fraud under Obama.

Smirks January 9, 2015 at 12:32 pm

Although the Lifeline wireless program has been around since 2005 and
started under president George W. Bush, it has exploded under President
Obama’s administration and the phones are often referred to as
“Obamaphones.”

What am I missing? The program exploded after its inception because private industry stepped up its marketing tactics and no regulation was placed on how much could be spent. Basically, anyone who qualifies gets a free phone. This was all done under Bush. The problem continued to get worse and worse as we went from the Bush admin to the Obama admin because the people making bank on the program kept stepping up their marketing to make more and more money.

If you have proof that Obama did something to expand the program, or actually made the problem worse somehow, then you’ll need to provide proof of that.

As for why they’re called “Obamaphones,” that’s pretty much due to talk radio, Fox News, and right wing blog propaganda taking fire. The simple fact is that the program started under Bush and Bush did nothing to limit it upon leaving office.

I guess you’ll want to blame Obama for all the problems with the Medicare part D expansion that Bush signed too, eh?

johnq January 9, 2015 at 4:58 pm

It exploded under Obama because Bush destroyed the economy and millions more were eligible for the phones.

Fecal Matters January 12, 2015 at 11:31 am

It was actually started under Reagan, expended under Bush and exploited to the Nth degree under Obama. Get your facts straight.

The Colonel January 9, 2015 at 1:22 pm

Um yeah, not so much – the Low Income Lifeline Program that provide a $9.25 a month subsidy to help those within 135% of the poverty line get cell phones actually came out of the “Telecommunications Act of 1996” “Universal Service Fund Program” and unless my memory is faulty, a guy named Bill “Slick Willie” Clinton was the president at that time.

Considering our mounting student loan debt, out-of-control tuition costs at universities, and people not always taking advantage of cost-effective higher ed opportunities like tech colleges and community colleges, I’d say this is a step in the right direction. At the very least, universities will have to compete with the community colleges, both in what they charge and what they offer.

They would need something in the bill that would keep community colleges from jacking up rates in response though, or it’ll end up doing more harm than good, similar to what student loans have done.

“They would need something in the bill that would keep community colleges from jacking up rates”

Exactly.

On point though that it could provide some interesting competition (see Ivory Tower)

That said, one thing that must remain in the conversation is this…higher education is not for everyone (just like home ownership, etc. etc.). Thus, it should help ensure those that are qualified can gain access. Moreover, it should encourage those that could stand to gain, whilst avoiding the temptation to encourage those that it is NOT suited for. (See Phoenix University online scam with the homeless)

No one assumes it will go off without a hitch, but plenty of other countries invest in higher ed far, far more than we do. (Hell, America 40+ years ago did too.)

Clearly slashing public university funding over the last several decades has not helped, private universities have not filled the need for affordable education, and private student loans were even more of a ripoff than the gubmint ones.

Actually, that is 34.2 billion dollars going into the econemy to pay for new college jobs to support the new students. Also all the construction jobs for expanding campuses.

This is a great idea as long as the money doesn’t go to all the scam private colleges that have been ripping off the GI Bill.

Don’t worry, they’ve bought enough congressmen to ensure it does.

HUh? Sounds like another scam like Obama pulled on us last time-‘shovel ready jobs’ which even he denied existed.

This just an attempt by a marxist thinking pResident to control the education of our youth by using the government.

If the government is paying for your education they can do what ever they want in brain washing students with dangerous, radical teachings.

Free college for the first two years, that’s a great idea. It will free up the professors at four year colleges to donate their time to teach the first two years because their work load will have been cut in half. It’s a win win for everybody.

It is hilarious how this website continually ignores facts, i.e. why debt is healthy in an international economy, to push your agenda. You definitely get some good political scoops in SC, but its getting to the point where those aren’t enough to justify visiting your site. Tisk Tisk Fits

This is one of those things that sounds like a good idea until the unintended consequences start kicking in. It sounds great that people who are out of work or just starting out in life and cannot pay for upgrading their education will be able to go to school and learn a trade that will help them get a job.

Instead of fixing the real reason people are out of work:
Over regulation
Lack of tort reform
Government bailouts

I am sure y’all can add to the list.

Guaranteed this will be a boon to the two year schools. With Uncle Sam (us) footing the bill then people will be streaming in to the schools. Then the two year schools can start jacking up their tuition fees the same way the four year schools have been doing since the government loan programs started.

Pay for it by doing away with the Dept of education, Dept. of energy and maybe a few dozen more. Give education back to the States where it belongs and reduce employees from 6,000 to 60 and let Walmart run it. The Dept. of energy can be reduced from 16,000 employees to 160 and combined with the Dept of Commerce or Walmart.

There are a lot of potential pitfalls and unintended consequences with this proposal but as government programs go it strikes me having more upside than most.
