UPSTATE PROPERTY MANAGER THREATENS TO BOOT SOLDIER FOR VISITING WIFE, NEWBORN BABY
By FITSNEWS || The story broke last week on WHNS TV 21 (Fox – Greenville/ Spartanburg, S.C.). By the weekend, it had made national news … prompting a flood of derision for one Upstate, S.C. landlord named “Chuck.”
And rightfully so …
According to the WHNS report, “Chuck” told U.S. Army Sergeant William Bullock that he was booting him out of his wife’s apartment in Central, S.C. because he was overstaying the one-week visitation limit imposed upon all tenants.
Bullock – who is stationed in Missouri – was visiting his wife, Lily Bullock, and their two-week-old baby girl. He’d never met his daughter prior to this trip, and hadn’t seen his wife in six months.
Nonetheless, “Chuck” told Bullock that because his name wasn’t on the lease – failure to vacate the apartment would result in his vehicle being towed and trespassing charges being filed. Not only that, “Chuck” threatened to double the rent on Lily Bullock – a student at Clemson University.
How’s that for holiday tidings?
“He stated to me that he didn’t care about our situation, he didn’t care about me being in the military,” Bullock told the station.
What a grinch …
This website has made its views on the current status of the U.S. military perfectly clear, but this sort of treatment is uncalled for no matter who is involved. Don’t get us wrong, “Chuck” has every right as a landlord to enforce the specifics of whatever lease agreement was signed. However, the free market (and the marketplace of ideas) has every right – once “Chuck” is identified – to demonstrate its displeasure with his glaring lack of circumstantial discernment.
Which raises a good question … or series of them, actually.
“Who is this landlord?” one of our Washington, D.C. readers asked of us this week. “I wonder what church he attends? I wonder what his community thinks? Maybe his name should be released to the public?”
Well, South Carolina Upstaters? Who is this “Chuck?”

– Toad away? Probably illegal if registered w/ married name.
– No offer by landlord for additional, temporary rent? Landlord’s rules are probably illegal, push comes to shove, no compromise loses.
– Is landlord prejudices against servicemen? Landlord’s rules, all of them, probably needs examination by local judge, ACLU, et al.
“Is landlord prejudices against servicemen?”
The other question is, would anyone care of the couple/husband was not a member of the military?
If she signed a contract, it is what it is…it’s not like anyone forced her to do it.
I stand corrected, except for the tow away thing.
Are other apartments in short supply?
Is “Chuck” related to Nikki?
Yes sir, landlords work so hard to get tenants so that they can then just search for reasons to kick them out. Yes sir, that makes all kind of sense.
I stand corrected … except for the tow away thingy.
This story is a bit more complicated than what shows on the surface. Apparently she rents a room in a multi-tenant apt. and has roommates/suitemates. She rents a room, not an apt. I’m sure it has a common area for cooking and relaxing.
It used to piss me off too when my roommates crowded our apt. with guests for extended stays. I’m not sure this particular instance of soldier/spouse demands special dispensation as uncomfortable as it sounds to me.
Wait! Are you saying Sic Willie would post a story without getting the facts first? Captain Renault is shocked!
Are you saying Sic Willie would post a story without getting the facts first?
Aunt Pittypat!
Fetch TBG his smelling salts.
…and tell Sam to “Play it.”
I stand corrected, except for the tow away Q&A.
There is only one parking space per tenant. No other parking. What is left out of the news is that 95% of apts around Central SC are lease by bed college complexes for Clemson University. My daughter lives there. All colleges have this type of off-campus rentals. This was on Fox&Friends and all over the Internet. I am concerned for my child’s safety, as there are renegades making threats and her apt is the VERY 1st one at the main entrance. Please, please, please let as many military people know the whole story, for the sake of my child and others. This rental property is located near R. C. Edwards Middle School and Daniel High School. Please!!
cu 1989, Shut the fu*&K up and stop whining about your daughter. She is probably screwing some local thug and sharing his crack. You got bigger problems than the tiny chance something may happen to your daughter.
She could cut your a$$ with her Ruger, but that doesn’t prevent some dub SH!T from taking a shot at her minding her own business in her yard.
bla bla boa…just saw her wheel chair ass smoking crank with bill bob and his momma. worry about that, not some stupid made up shi*t
No doubt by posting on fits news you have stopped the evil ones from shooting unarmed girls in wheelchairs!
like they are reading this.
dumb fuc*k
PRO TIP:
Everyone has a *good* reason why the rules shouldn’t apply to them.
That doesn’t apply to me.
Doesn’t really matter. She still has legal control, and the landlord’s option is still eviction.
That would be an important fact. If that’s the case then, assuming he has financial ability to do this, I would think he would get a local motel room for them to stay in together while he is on leave. And maybe he already has after the thing blew up on him.
The landlord is being made out to be a prick here and that may not be the case if he has received complaints from the other attendants in the apartment.
“Chuck” will be publicly humiliated. My apartment complex has the same rule but there are exceptions made. That particular rule exists to keep a tenant from harboring relatives, homeless folks, or undesirables. The landlord/owner must have certain rules for liability protection.
In this case, “Chuck” is a SCHMUCK..!!
But what about immediate family? What if she has another child?
You people are out of your wheelhouse. If she has a one-bedroom suite in a 4 suite apartment then she is allowed by fire code to sleep two people per bedroom. She has one bedroom. Therefore, if she adds another living person into the equation she must vacate. The “sofa” rule also covered under one or two week visitor clause has expired, her other roomies or the guy whose parking space has been hijacked complained and wallah. The landlord, who you can bet your sweet ass had his contracts written in accordance with the SC Real Estate Commission laws and the SCRA and NAR guidelines, is following procedure. He, himself, may have a very bad taste in his mouth but his hands are tied. Everybody agrees to rules until one applies to them and then their needs are suddenly more important than other people. With all the Al Sharpton wanna be’s and the NAACP out running traps on landlords looking for their little $2500 we’ll go away settlements and suddenly what looks so simple is quite complicated.
These are student-style apartments just like the ones near the stadium in Columbia and these issues crop up all the time because the reason people sign leases without reading them is that they plan to do as they please until they are caught which they usually are.
This chick needs to find a new home. This whole military thing has created another minority class. Pretty soon all government employees, fire fighters, first responders, etc., et damn cetera will be protected doing business will be impossible. That’s what Obama and Hilary (government is the only creator of jobs) would like to happen.
You had me until you threw in the very last sentence. Unbelievable that someone could get that far but just couldn’t resist the urge to go off to Obamaphobia.
I doubt parking is an issue since students will be home during the Winter (use to be Christ-mas) break.
Nice try but the law says that is their home –
I’m all for not protecting you at ALL. Let’s make you an un-protected class. Most non-management government workers are already treated like dirt.
That’s because you are at heart a Nazi.
Yes, this is all Hillary’s fault. Maybe you can find some Republicans to help you fix that military/special class thing.
Hahahahaha!
These damn Liberals screwing over our heros that protect us from Islamic threats. The landlord is probably black as Sharpton too. We have to take back MY country in ’16 or there will nothing but anarchy I tells ya.
…or there will nothing but anarchy I tells ya.
You say that like it’s a bad thing.
The great hope is that one day man will progress to the point where gov’t will not be needed….
I don’t think it’s impossible, I just think we are still at least 100, and probably 500 years away from it.
We need economies to progress so much that scarcity becomes so low on basic life items that people don’t feel the need to be violent.
Then, people have to understand that violence includes having gov’t take money from your neighbor, even by vote.
Contracts (leases) have to be enforced uniformly. Special concessions lead to 1) discrimination charges 2) out of control tenants 3) precedents for others to break leases.
This leads to the broker or property manager losing his license. There are already provisions in the law that protects soldier tenants who are deployed, etc.
Will. You’re better than this. You butter your bread with stories about politicians who give their cronies special consideration. Real estate law is structured to protect tenants.
There is more to this story and you know it. Another tenant complained and forced the landlords hand. It happens every day.
You want to out the guy I hope he comes back at you “en force”.
He is most certainly not better than this. It is his stock in trade. He’s a bottom feeder, nothing more.
I don’t see any excuse for the cad. The man is legally married, and on duty as determined by the un military!
Realtors used to be good folk, now they are like school principals, they hide behind rues so they don’t have to make a decision.
Man up…do the right thing!

Your daughter problems sleep with half the complex, and driving drunk to class.
Worry about something that happens everyday, not something that happens once in a hundred years.
Whinny little Bit*ch!
I am man. Dumb@$$! And she is in a wheelchair!!
so what, she still can snot crack with the crips and the bloods.
one in a million chance something happens to her about this…but one in 2 that a real life problems gets her. So worry about that shit and quit whining!

Wait! I thought Libertarians believed in property rights. The landlord owns the property, therefore he should be able to set his own rules. Isn’t that the Libertarian party line?
He was fer it afore he were a’gin it.
Let’s be honest, Sic plays a Libertarian on TV, not completely in real life.
Even worse, the rules were likely in the signed lease agreement, meaning that the person in question volunteered to submit to the rules and conditions of living there.
Suggesting that limitations be placed on what someone can or cannot agree to sounds awfully anti-liberty.
Fool. When you execute a rental contract and accept money, you are surrendering many of your property rights. Don’t like it? Don’t rent.
I know! He’s “Charles”.

you daughter is probably blowing the crips and the bloods and you are worried about the 1 in a million chance somebody finds her and hurts her over thins?
Grow the fu*k up, you ultimate mammas boy!
so with all the publicity, I don’t see any friends, family, army buddies coming forward to support them…what’s the deal?
It looks to me like Cu1989 has been able to edit his postings…he seems to have deleted most of them. How did he do that?
click “edit” backspace all your comments, type a single character and save

Well, Kyle and Jon; here is how it works. If you hover your cursor over an avatar, and a little window pops up, that means that poster has the balls to get a Disqus account.
Something you do not have.
Thanks for mentioning my balls. They are lovely, and useful. and I am happy your enjoy them.
I do not know about DISQUS but will quickly get one of these elusive accounts you mentioned.
See you Mr. TeaBags,
Jon
Tom’s all about men’s testicles.
I like you, but eff DIsqus.
Here’s the interview/video. Why in the hell are they in Tillman Hall with a 2 week old baby? And the mother/student says nothing. http://www.foxcarolina.com/story/27610873/visiting-soldier-cant-stay-in-wifes-central-apartment-landlord-says
Sounds like “Chuck” would make a good bureaucrat. No heart, no soul, no feelings, just rules. I hope there is a special place in Hell for them. The hottest part.
More like he makes a good Tea-publican. It’s all about the market place and “you’re on you own” mentality. After all, why should the private sector cater for a free loading public servant who is breaking the rules.
It’s about common sense and decency. Trademarks of the Tea Party.
In your case, ignorance of the laws in place that take the power away from a business person to make judgement calls and exceptions. No good deed goes unpunished is the way of this new world we live in.
He exemplifies the cognitive dissonance of most of those in the GOP very well.
“No gov’t regulation!” they shout, until it’s not convenient. The military is such a sacred cow that even suggesting their budget be cut makes you “anti American”….let alone suggest that the military be bound to the same laws/contracts as the rest of us.
Not that this is a defense for Democrats, who are equally dissonant on other areas….but it’s disheartening none the less.
“Common sense and decency”
More like favoritism and discrimination, blind hero worship of the military, and total ignorance of how things actually work in the real world. Trademarks of the Tea Party for sure.
Take this story and replace the “military card” with the “race card” and suddenly a lot of people would be changing their minds about “Chuck” enforcing rules.
+1 for all of your comment except “Trademarks of the Tea Party”. Picking on old people that see something wrong but don’t understand what and what the solution is isn’t fair game.(for now)
OMG
1. “Chuck” is a first class douche bag.
2. Sadly, it sounds as if “Chuck” has every legal right to be a douche bag.
3. If FITS really cared, why would there not be some sort of link to donate to this couple in their time of need? Note to people that set these kinds of things up: while there are many causes I’d like to give to, I pretty much only give to ones with a PayPal link, unless there is a local bank I can drop a check off at.
Love how you gather all the facts before condemning a person to hell. Been evicted lately?
I heard a Christian pastor say once that no true Christian should ever wish a place like Hell on anyone, because if they did, they truly did not know what they were wishing upon someone. Hell is not something a Christian should want anyone to have to experience.
(Of course, any given Sunday the pastor would be telling the congregation that they deserved to go to Hell if they didn’t get saved, but I doubt most of the other people saw the irony.)
I once heard Smirks say he listened to a sermon, apparently believe what it said, and then espouse it on the internet. This is truly an unusual event.
The whole concept of Hell is offensive if you ask me, I just figured I’d point out that even Christians draw a line at wishing an especially horrendous version of eternal torture on someone for something so silly. Then again, that’s the crux of Christianity as a whole, saying people deserve Hell for not believing in their doctrine of salvation.
Whatever. I won’t send you to an imaginary afterlife of pain and agony for disagreeing with me, so have at it.
So you’re offended that someone who believes in a non-existent God wishes you to go to an imaginary place after you die? You seem insecure.
Deserve – wish: Two different things.
This is wrong in all kinds of way! I am sure there are landlords in the vicinity who would gladly allow this mother of a newborn to live in their apartment and her husband as well for the extra week or so he has on leave. Come on, people, it’s Christmas – show some Christ-like love!!!
Oh if it were really that simple. Why don’t you fork over the cash for them to go to an extended stay for the holidays. Shouldn’t set you back less than a grand. Christ will be proud of your holiday sacrifice.
After you take a look at my waiting list from Clemson students seeking housing you will see how worried I am about the free market and your attempt to cause me embarrassment. We took deposits over Thanksgiving break and will be at 100% occupancy for 2015. Good day.
Chuck, the least you could do is offer a stable with a manger.
But that’s where the Clemson cheerleaders are staying…
Expression: A roll in the hay…
I remember as a small boy asking a young girl, why do you have hay on your back?
Actually, this clearly shows how little “Free-Market Willie” understands.
1) Landlord-tenant law in SC is pretty clear. If the landlord wants to argue that the soldier has established residency in the apartment, then he would have to file an EVICTION through the court.
2) trespass does NOT apply, since the soldier’s wife has legal control over the apartment and the right to choose guests. Again, the landlord’s only option is to file for an eviction.
3) barring any specific language in the lease running counter, the landlord CANNOT alter rent until the lease term is completed.
Willie, you have no clue about what you are talking about. As usual.
Hey, man, you ran the story.
What’s the address? Look up the owners in the tax records.
Or, do you prefer to go after peon property manager ‘Chuck’ who’s just following the instruction of his free market property owning masters?
That is TYPICAL Libertarianism.
One day the Average Joe Libertarians will wake up and realize that to you people, the only Liberty and Individual Rights that mean a thing is the Individual Right of the free market business owner to screw over his workers and customers.
Maybe…maybe, the Average Joe will stop identifying with his boss when he finally gets that.
Chuck sounds like Smirks or Douche Max.
This sounds as believable as the Rolling Stone gang rape story.
Landlord better call his lawyer, as he is completely wrong on his lease law.
Ka Ching in any court. I can’t wait to see how a jury would rule on this one.
