AGENCY TO HEAR CASE INVOLVING NIKKI HALEY’S CABINET

Eight months ago this website reported on the saga surrounding a former high-ranking employee at the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (SCDEW).

According to the agency, the employee was fired for stealing data.  According to a lawsuit filed by the employee in the wake of her termination, the alleged data theft was a set-up – part of a conspiracy aimed at running her out of the troubled agency.

Additionally, the employee accused the administration of S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley of “intentionally misleading” S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) investigators as well as lying to state lawmakers tasked with oversight of the agency.

The drama could come to a head this month as the S.C. Human Resources Division – a division of the S.C. Budget and Control Board (SCBCB) – hears the employee’s grievance.

A hearing into the matter has been scheduled for 9:00 a.m. EDT on Thursday September 11 – and the five-member grievance panel has allotted two days to hear testimony.  Not only that, sources tell FITS investigators and legislative staffers have been instructed to attend the hearing in an effort to determine if there is validity to the claims against Haley’s cabinet.

SCDEW has been led for the last year by Cheryl Stanton, a former New York City attorney.

Up until Stanton’s arrival in May 2013, SCDEW was arguable the worst managed agency in Haley’s cabinet … which is saying something.  Its former director, Abraham Turner, resigned last February – just days after FITS exclusively reported about SCDEW doling out $54.5 million in “improper claims” in 2012.

When you think about it, Haley is prolific in her misdeeds and alleged misdeeds. Not many people could develop that kind of record in such a short time. Absolute incompetence.

Would be nice if voters sent Haley to get a first hand experience of how DEW is working.

And yet still not enough trash has been swept out. The place remains cluttered with expensive but useless debris fouling the way. Chiefs of this and that; Assistant Chiefs of just what and whatever; Directors of misdirection; MisManagers.

Stanton has closed rural employment one-stops, refused to pay rent for spaces used by her agency, used her agency’s audit function to bully regional WIAs who don’t do her bidding, and fired agency staff who resiste her direction. Haley has an ambitious employment agenda but this agency is way out of step with this agenda. Turner was mearly stupid. Stanton is evil.

Turner was not merely stupid but incredibly asinine and egotistical, and Kerry Paul was a professional bully who wanted to run the whole show – thank God she’s gone!! Cheryl Stanton, on the other hand, is finally what this agency needs…she’s smart, she gets things done, and she ain’t no pushover!

The entire hearings better be audio recorded with unredacted copies of the same made fully available to the public. DO NOT let these slimes get away with covering ANYTHING up.

Your editing staff really needs to learn to proofread. The grammatical errors are always extremely disctracting.

As a SCDEW employee for 3 years, I can say that Kerry Paul was the ONLY professional on the “Leadership Team” in Columbia.. Nikki Haley appoints unqualified people to run these departments for her own political gain and Haley provided NO oversite.

Kerry Paul was the biggest bullying birch at dew. She fired people if they looked at her the wrong way. I have read her lawsuit and she is dead on about the agency. However, she is forgetting that she was the ring leader of mess like this when she was there.

Kerry Paul isnt the only one, somebody should blast SCDEW regional managers for doing employee reviews from home. Meaning, personal information entered on unsecured server!!!

Unbelievable January 8, 2015 at 6:58 pm

Ok as much as I cannot stand Kerry Paul, I absolutely believe that she did not steak information. Was she a bitch? Absolutely. Was she power hungry? Without a doubt. I hate to say it but I worked there and I was terminated for something ridiculous! As soon as Cheryl Stanton parked her big ass in the ED chair, she got rid of every person who she felt threatened by and Kerry Paul was her biggest threat. Kerry could of run the agency successfully with her eyes shut, however we know our Governor only appoints people who have zero experience in the appointed field. Oh and lawyers who can keep her out of trouble or get out of trouble. And yet Haley claims lawyers should not be Governor??? It absolutely kills me the ethic violations with Stanton and Haley and McMaster, etc. All the while getting some numbers wrong 1 time in your tenure is “unbecoming of a state employee”? It seems like it is becoming a credential for our perfect leadership.
