Eager to debunk S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley‘s self-proclaimed “Jobs Governor” title, Palmetto State Democrats have launched a new website zeroing in on various claims made by the incumbent “Republican.”
And most of the featured claims thus far are focused on Haley’s less-than-accurate “economic development” forecasts.
“Nikki Haley makes a lot of claims, using smoke and mirrors to hide the harsh reality of her failures. The truth is: Life is tough for most families in South Carolina, and when things go wrong Haley’s covers it up instead of being honest with the people,” said Conor Hurley, SCDP Executive Director. “From distorting the jobs numbers to concealing her economic failures, to allowing children to be kept in danger to mismanagement at DSS and covering up the hacking of people’s Social Security Numbers — Nikki Haley has shown time and again that she cannot be trusted. It’s our job to hold her accountable, and that’s exactly what we’re doing with this microsite and digital initiative.”
Haley has been busted inflating the state’s jobs numbers on several previous occasions (including HERE and HERE), but her real trick is touting the state’s shrinking unemployment rate – which isn’t the result of new jobs, but rather tens of thousands of working age South Carolinians leaving the workforce .”
That’s why the Palmetto State has a record low labor participation rate.
Democrats have nominated S.C. Sen. Vincent Sheheen to run against Haley – although his campaign has badly faltered. That’s opened the door for self-styled “independent Republican” Tom Ervin – who is running on an interesting mix of free market conservative and populist Democratic policies.
Also running? Libertarian nominee Steve French – who has been aggressively pressing Haley on the bread and butter fiscal issues where she is vulnerable.

Since Ervin started spending his millions attacking Haley , Sheheen has lost 10 points. Haley has gained 2 points and Ervin is at 2%.

There are so many reasons to hate Nikki Haley. Where do you start and when does it end.
I can help remind us of a few. Calling out anyone who lost their job, by no fault of their own, a “drug addict” Saying we should take those 20 hr jobs anyway to “prove ourselves” once again (this from someone who never, EVER had a real job outside of politics and even then, she had the WORST absentee average in the SC House when there!) The obvious DSS scandal. The arrest (and consequential judgement against the state) for the illegal ouster of the Occupyers from the StateHouse Grounds. Her firing and consequential lawsuit by the lesbian highway patrol person. The whole Anti-Union message to PROSPECTIVE companies. Her latest campaign ad with the 14 year old “bullied girl” (That might explain why Trikki Nikki throws a tantrum about unions. She has the maturity of a 14 year old drama queen it seems!). Staying on the “empathy for the 14 y/o “D-Q”, contrast that with her total LACK of empathy for the 6 year old that was KILLED on that train ride in Spartanburg OR the family of the now severly disabled kid whose family went bankrupt from the millions in med bills. All T-N could say was “The law prohibits SC from paying anymore”. OR how she didn’t even prosecute/FIRE the lying SOB SC OSHA INSPECTOR that rubberstamped the inspection documents on that same ride!.(the LAW clearly states what needs to be done in cases of falsification of documents!) The TB epidemic debacle in Greenwood/Ninety Six..(Those kids that contracted it/actually were sickened are marked for life because of that being allowed to blow-up). Not taking the Medicaid money that we’re taxed for anyway!.(Then hiring high-priced consultants to tell her what to do!). The Katrina Shealy/Trikki Nikki FB cat fight. Firing the MOST talented woman on the USC Board of Trustees and one of the most influential financial analysts in the ENTIRE WORLD, Darla Moore, so to put her own cronnie in place. Running off the Wisconsin to promote Scott Walker, an even WORSE nimrod of a governor, OR embarrasing the State of SC to blabber in Canada…The 150 million EXTRA tax-payer bailout of Boeing in Charleston! The lack of oversight by paid officials concerning WIA educational programs, the PSC, Colleges and University skyrocketing costs. And so I guess that’s not what you meant… Sheheen’s ad implies that Haley hid the data breach when in fact, SLED told her not to report it while they investigated. In other words, it’s a lie.
Haley didn’t hire the IT staff and the system that was breached predates her administration by almost ten years. Her response was the correct one, quickly provide those affected by the breach with some protection – the normal bid process would have taken 30-60 days assuming there was no protest to the award.
Ah yes, Haley did not hire the IT staff, but if memory serves she did appoint the head of DOR who allowed the IT security position to remain vacant for over a year and did not fill it until after the hacking.
So does she bear any responsibility for putting someone in charge who could not recognize that IT security is pretty important ?
Okay, so her appointee screwed up – I think he’s gone now. Doesn’t change the fact that Sheheen lied in his ad – which is the whole point of my original post. Why trade one bad liar for a potentially good liar, he is lawyer after all.
Just go ahead and admit that no matter how bad Haley screws up, nothing she could do would stop you from voting for her.

Schwait, time out, I’m not sure who I’m voting for at this point, I’ve never voted a straight party ticket and once, to my chagrin these days, voted for “Jammy Cotter”. I’ve worked on Johnny Spratt’s campaigns. At one time I tended to vote Republican, now I vote conservative, they’re not the same thing, maybe they’ve never necessarily been the same thing.
At my advanced age, I’ve decided to call “bovine excreta” bullshit when I see it. In the case of the dwarves running for goobernor, none of them really turn me on. Haley goes from blunder to bluster to fabrication when things go awry. However Sheheen, rather than attacking her on legitimate issues choose to run ads that are just not true or are incredibly inaccurate half truths and he needs to be called on it. Sheheen is a liberal, one of the reasons he won’t run on issues is because he’s a liberal and he knows it won’t fly in this state.

YES, HELL YES, a company who was the crown jewel of Experian, “Church” was actually a company owned by a 24 year old Viet Nam kid. Of course the second the Secret Service identified this company as the thief of all of S.C. data Experian dropped this company. The US Justice Department, FBI set up a sting to get this guy in the US and arrested him on the tarmac as he was leaving the plane. Congress then held hearings on Experian and their dealings. Maybe I read more than you. And yes Haley gave a no bid contract of 12 million dollars to Experian. I don’t have anymore to say on this subject because it is so depressing to me our Governor is Haley. She’s all yours.

The Civilian non-institutionalize population has grown 156,215.
About 35,500 of that is greater than the national average growth. A large portion of that could be retirees moving to South Carolina. Retirees are included in the labor participation rate, if they are not in a nursing home. Also baby boomers are retiring. People are living longer. Their may be more single income families. Finally, more people are on disability and they are counted in the labor participation rate.
