TIM SCOTT THE ONLY TOP-TIER GOP CANDIDATE TO SHOW AT CHAPIN EVENT

The top of the GOP ticket in South Carolina was nowhere to be found at the traditional kickoff of the Palmetto political season – Chapin’s annual Labor Day parade.

S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley and lieutenant gubernatorial nominee Henry McMaster both bailed on the popular event – a snub which wasn’t lost on Lexington residents.  U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham also failed to attend.

“They didn’t show up at the Peach Festival in Gilbert and they didn’t show up today,” one Lexington resident told FITS. “Guess they don’t need Lexington County.”

McMaster was reportedly on vacation with his family.  Haley’s and Graham’s whereabouts were not immediately known.

Who did show up at the Labor Day parade?  Independent U.S. Senate candidate Thomas Ravenel and “independent Republican” gubernatorial candidate Tom Ervin – both of whom are looking to shake up the Palmetto State’s conventional “red versus blue” calculus this November.

The top two Democrats on the statewide ticket – S.C. Sen. Vincent Sheheen, and State Rep. Bakari Sellers – also made appearances.  In fact Sellers used the occasion to kick off his campaign’s grassroots effort, which features activists in all forty-six South Carolina counties.

The only big-name Republican to attend?  U.S. Sen Tim Scott, who reportedly had “almost the entire Lexington County legislative delegation” – including State Sen. Katrina Shealy – marching with him in the parade.

S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson – who hails from Lexington – also marched in the parade and attended the event in Gilbert in July.

Ervin is stealing votes from Sheheen according to Rasmussen poll (August 27). Haley up 51%-36%.

I saw that. For some reason FITS did not report that poll. And The State, another leftwinger, like FITS, claimed Rasmussen is right-wing (on the level of liberal Kremlin-based PPP.) LMAO.

Liberals and reality don’t like each other, it seems…Hahahaha…

vicupstate September 2, 2014 at 4:45 pm

Rasmussen IS a Republican pollster, that is not even debatable. That in and of itself does not make them a bad pollster. Their record as a lousy pollster (worst of the 2012 cycle) does however.

The fact that they didn’t even give list Ervin as an option to the respondents in their poll, shows they wanted to minimize his relevance even before they called the first person.

Reply
SC Political Digest September 3, 2014 at 6:06 am

Rasmussen is one of the most accurate. He was one of only two, to get it exactly right in 2008. Liberals, like you, just lie, when you don’t like facts.

A lot of people were off in 2012, because multiple voters (criminals) don’t answer to pollsters (or anyone for fear of arrest.) And illegal aliens don’t speak English, so you cannot poll them. That’s why Obama’s voters were under-polled.

vicupstate September 3, 2014 at 8:48 am

Horse Shit. It is you that ignores the facts.

2012:

http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/11/10/which-polls-fared-best-and-worst-in-the-2012-presidential-race/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0

Of 23 pollsters, Rasmussen was 4th from the bottom in accuracy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rasmussen_Reports

A Fordham University study by Dr. Costas Panagopoulos compared pre-election polling with the results from election day. The study ranked Rasmussen Reports 24th out of 28 polls in accuracy, one slot above Gallup.

2010:

http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/rasmussen-polls-were-biased-and-inaccurate-quinnipiac-surveyusa-performed-strongly/

Every election cycle has its winners and losers: not just the among the candidates, but also the pollsters.

On Tuesday, polls conducted by the firm Rasmussen Reports — which released more than 100 surveys in the final three weeks of the campaign, including some commissioned under a subsidiary on behalf of Fox News — badly missed the margin in many states, and also exhibited a considerable bias toward Republican candidates.

2008:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rasmussen_Reports

An analysis by Costas Panagopoulos in 2009 ranked 23 survey research organizations on the accuracy of their final, national pre-election polls based upon Obama’s 7.2% margin of victory; the analysis determined that Rasmussen Reports was tied for 9th most accurate. … Rasmussen Reports polls predicted the correct winner in 46 states. Its final polls of Florida, Indiana and North Carolina all showed leads for McCain. Obama went on to win all three of these states.

” Ervin is stealing votes from Shitheen ” He has to get votes from somewhere. No Republican wants him.

Reply
Slartibartfast September 1, 2014 at 6:51 pm

I don’t want to start a brouhaha, here, but there ARE Republicans who support Ervin. Many of them are the same ones who wanted to keep the current guv from running. Currently, he is not in the lead, but we have a month, and there is some real money behind him, as well as acceptable conservative ideas. Our TV news stations, which are arguably the biggest chickens as well as the laziest bunch of people in a country of lazy reporters, are still reporting on him.

Now for a Rumsfeldism: Will he win? Probably not, but the question ought to be, “Will he have more numbers than Sheheen?”

Reply
td September 1, 2014 at 8:39 pm

The only money “BEHIND” Ervin is his OWN. He has loaned his campaign millions and had raised only about $50,000 thru mid-summer from contributors.

My guess is he paid more than that for the 20,000 signatures to get on the ballot?

There was a swimming pool there, now overgrown, at 5-mile park. Tucumcari mountain was a haunt of mine, I walked out to it… the cops eventually started using some of the places I frequented for range practice.. really smelled up the place.

Man.. it used to be America everywhere.

The numbers are so bad for Ervin and TR that FITS isn’t really talking about them. Even the Dem polls have Haley and LG winning fairly easily, and if you cut the Rasmussen lead in half (which you sometimes have to do to handicap their bias) Ervin and TR are still sucking the last place tit. TV time is almost upon us, which means that it’s already time for TR (who is probably raising a pittance in contributions) to man up and reach into his dwindling millions to fund some “look at me” TV spots. “they have a long memory.”
Haley will want a political career after the Governorship. People will remember the slights. She has made enemies of former freinds. Sanford, John Rainey and Katrina Shealy are examples. That is not necessarily her fault, but it hurts. She has made enemies in the General Assembly, but not in a way that endears the voters.

There are 46 counties, each county had at least one and probably several events going on that a politician would consider attending to interact with voters. Why would a politician campaign in a county in which he is considered safe and ignore counties in which he dearly needs votes? The politician should have, and maybe did, explain to the party faithful in the “safe” county why he would not attend but if I were a supporter of a particular politician in a “safe” county I wouldn’t want him to campaign there, I would want him going where it would do the most good.
