GOP DIVIDED …

U.S. President Barack Obama wants to spend $4 billion to deal with a surge of young immigrants on America’s southern border – a wave  of refugees fleeing the Mexican drug war.

“Republicans?” Once again, they’re divided as to how they should respond.

“I think it’s a charade,” U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney – a fiscal conservative lawmaker from South Carolina – told reporter Mike Lillis of The Hill . “I think the president has set it up to make it look as though the only reason he’s not enforcing the border is that he doesn’t have the money, and that’s not accurate.”

We agree …

Agreeing with Obama? U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (of course), who told Lillis that if the GOP doesn’t cough up the money “we’re going to get blamed for perpetuating the problem.”

Really?  That’s his reason?

Earlier this week we learned our $4 trillion government is pretty sure it blows $100 billion (that’s right … billion ) each year in erroneous payments, which it referred to as a “clerical error.”

Seriously … and it can’t find $4 billion to do one of the only things the U.S. Constitution actually mandates?

We’re with Mulvaney on this one …

“Once again, Graham just wants to give Obama and the Dems what they want, yet the political result never seems to benefit conservatives,” one GOP activist told FITS.

Or anybody else, for that matter …

Hire Mexicans to build a wall, once done stand outside of it and admire it and then say let’s go look at it from the Mexican side and once they step through the gate slam it shut behind them.

Reply
Rocky July 10, 2014 at 4:30 pm

Problem is, they’d build it with them on the inside, the US contractors on the south side. And then they’d just walk back to their homes in LA.

The Colonel July 11, 2014 at 1:46 pm

The Rio Grande makes up over a thousand miles of the border and could be patrolled as is, but not with 7 agents per mile (7 agents per mile means that at anyone time you might have 1 guy every two miles by the time you figure in HR BS, training, leave and shifts). From Fort Bliss to the Pacific Ocean is only about 750 miles.
This is not an issue of “can it be done”, it can absolutely be done.
This is an issue of will. Do we have the will to remain the United States or are we going to become Estados Unidos. I patrolled the border back in the late 80s as part of an experiment using the military to assist the old separate office known as the US Border Patrol. We interdicted dope smugglers and “Coyotes” all night long and simply turned them around before they ever got into the States.

Actually, yes.

Health care for emergencies is free for everyone in Italy, regardless of their nationality. This means that if you have an accident or need immediate care for any serious emercency you can go to a hospital where you’ll be treated for free.

Squishy123 July 10, 2014 at 6:32 pm

So it’s the same as the US for emergencies.

What about routine medical procedures, if I want a checkup and can’t afford it can I go to an Italian doctor and just have him write it off or get the Italian government to pay for it?

What about education, if I’m an illegal alien in Italy can I ship my kids off to the local school and they have to teach them even if that means having to hire a translator because they can’t speak Italian?

Can I get an EBT card to use at fast food restaurants and convenience stores in Italy?

Can I get government subsidized housing in Italy?

Fat Greg Dulli July 11, 2014 at 8:51 am

Well, that’s commendable, if you’re actually telling the truth. I was adopted out of the Virginia Baptist Children’s home and feel that we have plenty of humanitarian work to do on our own citizens. We are skating on very thin ice with this situation. We cannot even effectively care for the 10’s of thousands of unwanted children in our own country, why would we open the floodgates? We have a humanitarian crisis already going on, we don’t need more US tax payer funded handouts.

SCBlueWoman July 11, 2014 at 9:00 am

Glad that you found a home. There is a crisis in this country. If everyone stepped up instead of screaming at each other a lot could be fixed. In my experience, folks would rather bitch than take action, but that’s off topic.

Fat Greg Dulli July 11, 2014 at 9:11 am

Then why don’t we handle our own crisis instead of fostering another one? So now we turn ourselves into the worlds welfare system? We cannot sustain this type of strain on the already over capacitated culture of poverty in our country. Not to mention the disease that’s being transported across the border into our country. I am a compassionate person, but enough is enough.

That’s how we must gain our soil as well – kill, wound, maim, eject, imprison… occupy. We should learn from our allies. We need to start expanding our southern borders to protect ourselves from these outlaws… put down settlements in Mexico to make the desert bloom! Besides, these areas were given to us by Jesus when he appeared to Joseph Smith in Utah!

And if we get any static – we simply bulldoze their houses, to make room for more settlements, until we finally get to a state of peace with the savages trying to push us into the sea.

No doubt they have fought hard for every bit of that dirt since 1946 but if it had not been for the Holocaust, Israel would not be a country listed in the World Atlas today

I’ve been intimately involved in military actions concerning Israel since 1973 and have pulled duty in Israel.

I guess neither did 6 Days War in ’67 in which Israel kicked the shit out of Egypt, Syria, Iraq and Jordan or the 72 Yom Kippur War in which Israel shook off a surprise attack by both Egypt and Syria?

Gentiles had nothing to do with it – dead Arabs did. Britian resisted the formation of a Jewish nation hand and fist and after they bailed Arabs attempted unsuccessfully to destroy the fledgling nation.

euwe max July 11, 2014 at 7:06 pm

For all the bluster and blame-throwing by conservatives asserting that the Obama administration is responsible for the current immigration crisis, the roots of the problem are in a law passed in 2008 when President George W. Bush was in charge. As today’s New York Times notes, the Bush administration signed into law a measure designed to cut down on child sex trafficking.

The William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008 required certain judicial procedures to protect the rights of immigrant minors to prevent them from being deported back into the hands of individuals who were exploiting them in their home countries. It was a well-meaning, compassionate measure that focused on protecting kids from countries that don’t share a border with the United States, which means every country but Mexico and Canada. But the effect of the law was to enable unaccompanied, unauthorized immigrant minors to remain in the United States while their cases worked their way through the immigration court system. Because word got back to Central American countries that you can game the U.S. system, a flood of unaccompanied minors developed.

The White House wants Congress to change a 2008 anti-trafficking law requiring lengthy deportation proceedings for children arriving from countries that do not share a border with the United States. The change would allow authorities to quickly deport newly arrived children, as takes place with children from Mexico and Canada.

Bush’s LAW – and I do not know how to emphasize this more than I have already – says that, once these kids from countries other than Canada and Mexico are here, we have to allow them DEPORTATION PROCEEDINGS.

Your articles all reference border patrol agents being pulled away from patrolling the border to help process the thousands of Central American immigrants spilling into Texas. It’s the law. Bush’s law.

I’ve already read that argument it’s bovine excreta. The Border Patrol could simply stop them from stepping foot on U.S.soil. for those who refused to stop they simply cuff’em and stuff’em in a bus, take them to Juarez and kick’em off the bus. The problem is they’re being allowed to enter. If you stop them at the border and deny entry the 2008 law doesn’t even come into play. If force is required so be it, you’ll only have to use it once or twice before the word gets out.

euwe max July 11, 2014 at 7:52 pm

I’ve already read that argument it’s bovine excreta. The Border Patrol could simply stop them from stepping foot on U.S.soil.

——
The law does not allow that, unless they are from Mexico.

The Colonel July 11, 2014 at 10:10 pm

Bovine excreta, the law was designed to protect illegal aliens found in the country being abused in the sex trades. There is no requirement to let anyone violate our national integrity by illegally crossing our borders.

euwe max July 11, 2014 at 11:25 pm

The law was designed to protect illegal aliens found in the country being abused in the sex trades or those who apply for the so called T Visa.

——-

The law makes specific what is to be done with a child from another country. They have to find out whether:

1) THE CHILDREN ARE INVOLVED IN INTERNATIONAL TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS

2) WHETHER THEY ARE WITNESSES OR INFORMANTS

3) WHETHER THEY ARE FLEEING USE AS CHILD SOLDIERS

4) WHETHER THE CHILDREN ARE ELIGIBLE FOR PROTECTION

It’s the law. They have to process every child for those 4 things.

http://www.state.gov/j/tip/laws/113178.htm

The same as laws that exempt evidence on a technicality. It’s the law, it’s not a suggestion, or subject to your opinion.

The Colonel July 11, 2014 at 11:30 pm

No they don’t. If they are not found in the trade or come requesting a T Visa, they do not require special treatment. Simply being an illegal alien, particularly one who is not allowed into the country does not invoke any privilege.

euwe max July 12, 2014 at 12:07 pm

SEC. 235. ENHANCING EFFORTS TO COMBAT THE TRAFFICKING OF CHILDREN.

(a) Combating Child Trafficking at the Border and Ports of Entry of the United States-

(1) POLICIES AND PROCEDURES- In order to enhance the efforts of the United States to prevent trafficking in persons, the Secretary of Homeland Security, in conjunction with the Secretary of State, the Attorney General, and the Secretary of Health and Human Services, shall develop policies and procedures to ensure that unaccompanied alien children in the United States are safely repatriated to their country of nationality or of last habitual residence.

The Colonel July 12, 2014 at 12:45 pm

Why are you struggling with the idea that if we don’t let them in, they are not our problem ? Let me throw you another curve, if an “unaccompanied minor” actually made it 1,200 miles on their own, they can probably take care of themselves. This is an organized crisis -at least on the southern side of of the border.

euwe max July 12, 2014 at 4:36 pm

It’s just a law, and people enforcing it. It’s a poorly written law, but it’s the law. Anyone would think you hadn’t been in the military.

The Colonel July 12, 2014 at 5:58 pm

You continue to obfuscate – if you don’t let them in, the 2008 update to TVPA (written by democrats, by the way) does not apply period. According to the law, they must either request the T-visa or stay the hell out. If they should slip in then you have to give them the Full Monty (course, that’s actually what we were trying to protect them from in the first place…)

euwe max July 12, 2014 at 6:14 pm

Just because you don’t like it, don’t pretend it’s not the law. I’m not obfuscating – if you don’t want it enforced, talk to the Republicans… they’ve got your back.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCnzCMBRO1o

The Colonel July 12, 2014 at 9:33 pm

A – having more than a little experience with trafficking, I’ll tell you that the laws have had little effect, in fact sex trafficking is at the highest levels is ever been. Sex trafficking is the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world according to Equality Now and number of other global entities. http://www.equalitynow.org/node/1010
B – I’m only to happy to enforce TVPA it when we find persons in situations for which it was intended
C – if we prevent the illegal aliens from entering, not only does TVPA not have to be enforced, it would be Mexico’s responsibility to enforce their law. Guess what, Mexico would put them in jail for ten years then immediately deport them, no questions asked.

euwe max July 12, 2014 at 11:51 pm

A – Doesn’t matter
B – Not relevant
C – Law doesn’t allow it.

Sometimes it seems I am the only person who follows current events who wasn’t born yesterday. Republicans want to blame the flood of illegal minors on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) initiative, the so-called DREAM Act. In fact, unaccompanied minors fall under the “William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008,” which was passed UNANIMOUSLY by the House and Senate and signed into law by……wait for it…… George W. Bush!

The act says unaccompanied children cannot be sent back. They must instead be held under humane conditions by the Department of Health and Human Services until the courts release them to a “suitable family member” in this country. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says more than 80 percent of these children will find permanent homes in the U.S., either with family members or in foster care.

Now Obama is requesting $4.0 billion in emergency funding from Congress to help deal with the crisis, along with expanded powers for DHS to fast-track deportations. Here he is, yet again, dealing with a steaming pile left by George W. Bush — and all he gets is a hard time from Republicans who don’t have to make tough decisions. Keep in mind — many of these Republicans now castigating Obama voted for the 2008 act which resulted in the problem being dealt with now.

A good part of the money would be to hire more immigration judges, why is not clear. I guess to ask, “Do you have the proper immigration papers? No? OK back across for you.” But they would no doubt become permanent hires, all Dems no doubt, who would ask, “Do you have the proper immigration papers? No? OK here are some, and a drivers license, voter (Dem) ID, housing vouchers, EBT card, Obamacare card, Obamaphone, and a couple Benjamins for walkin-around cash. Next!”

Judging from the posts below, it seems that none of you have any ideas, other than some stupid 2,000 mile canal project and claymore mines.

As Manray reminds us, this problem was created by Republican laws passed in 2008. It is pathetic how McCain, Cruz, et. al., and now Mulvaney, attempt to characterize the situation as if Obama is somehow not enforcing border laws. Do you guys ever accept responsibility for the messes you make? I didn’t think so.

Guatemala’s first lady Rosa Leal de Pérez traveled to the US-Mexico border earlier this month to see how the US is dealing with the surge of migrant children, many from her nation.

She called the situation a “humanitarian crisis” and said she believed the kids were primarily traveling to the US in order to reunite with family members. Ms. Leal de Pérez blamed US immigration policies for keeping families apart and parents for putting their kids at risk. Something she didn’t find responsible? Violence back home.
