Tom Ervin Blasts Nikki Haley’s Phantom “Roads Plan” (Updated)

“INDEPENDENT REPUBLICAN” ACCUSES HALEY OF PUSHING SECRET TAX HIKE

Self-styled “independent Republican” gubernatorial candidate Tom Ervin blasted his 2014 rival – Gov. Nikki Haley – for her so-called “secret plan” to raise taxes on South Carolinians as part of funding infrastructure improvements.

In fact Ervin said Haley’s refusal to address infrastructure funding was the impetus for a $1.7 billion tax hike authorization she signed into law last week.

“It’s Haley’s lack of leadership that has forced a county-by-county sales tax increase to make up for her failed leadership,” Ervin said. “This has resulted in a back door sales tax increase on top of her ‘secret plan’ to raise taxes next year.”

Ervin added that the “Republican” incumbent was pushing this “secret tax hike” in lieu of establishing what he called “a consensus for long-term funding for our crumbling roads and bridges.”

“When Nikki Haley hides the ball on funding, that’s her political speak for taxpayer’s having to foot the bill,” he said.

Ervin’s language mirrors criticism Haley has received from fiscally conservative Upstate S.C. Sen. Kevin Bryant (R-Anderson) – who attempted to filibuster the $1.7 billion tax authorization last month.

Bryant has continued to call Haley out for signing the bill.

In addition to challenging Haley on the tax front, Ervin also chided the governor for telling lawmakers she was going to “show the General Assembly” how to properly fund infrastructure.

“We already have a dictator in Washington, D.C.,” he said. “We don’t need another one in Columbia.”

Whoa … them’s fightin’ words.

Haley’s “roads plan” – to the extent it exists – was also blasted by Democrats this week.

“Governor Haley continues to offer up nothing but rhetoric and policies that are as broken as our roads,” S.C. House minority leader Todd Rutherford (D-Columbia) said.

Rutherford said he wants to legalize casinos in the “Myrtle Beach area” of South Carolina to raise revenue, a plan this website weighed in on HERE.

Just like 35,000 Democrats (with credible allegations that many were paid to vote and voted illegally) voted in the Republican Primary in Mississippi to defeat the conservative candidate , the Ervin campaign was apparently successful in getting 20,000 Democrats to sign petitons and get him on the ballot at this time. The goal is to elect Democrat Sheheen and defeat conservative Haley for Ervin. Mississipi and SC elections mirror each other in my opinion , although I don’t have any evidence nor am I making the allegation that citizens were paid by the Ervin campaign to sign the petitions or that he used ANY of the $425,000 he loaned his campaign to obtain the signatures.

The implication, in my opinion , is that ‘traitor’ Tommy would vote to legalize gambling in MB/ SC while subjecting the citizens of the state to the crime and violence that organized gambling brings to a community.

Trikki just needs to tell the truth. The Republican US House is – ONCE AGAIN – diddling itself instead of passing the highway bill. When it starts running out of money in August, payments to the states will be sent as federal gas tax receipts trickle in. There will be no stable flow of highway funding to the states.

Is this any way to run a country REPUBLICANS say is so exceptional?
The REPUBLICANS are running us down into a third world theocracy.

Go crawl up to Grover Norquist and see if he will tell you that roads have been a ‘core function of government’ for 2000+ years – the Roman government build roads and aquaducts, you know, infrastructure – maybe, he will give you permission to raise the federal gas tax which hasn’t been raised since 1993.

There may be some Red governors who tell their Red representatives, like Wilson, Gowdy, Mulvaney, Rice, Duncan, and Sanford, to get their sorry asses in gear and act like grownups. But, Nikki Haley won’t be one of them.

Vote Haley out July 2, 2014 at 10:14 pm

Haley continues to lie about DSS and the Data Breach that has cost and will continue to cost this state millions of dollars vote her ass out this November.

No Public Release of DSS Caseload Standards

Lexington, SC (WLTX) – For months now, the South Carolina Department
of Social Services has vowed to develop a ratio that would put limits on
how many cases a worker can have.

Former DSS State Director
Lillian Kolle, and the agency’s 2013 Annual Progress and Services Report
said the caseload methodology would be handed over to the feds by last
month.

After we started asking questions, DSS said Wednesday they’ll have it ready sometime in the next month.

“There
is nothing more important at the Department of Social Services than the
work we do protecting our at-risk children and strengthening families,”
an agency spokeswoman said. “To improve the procedures and methods our
caseworkers practice, DSS is still in the process of developing a
system and set of standards that will reduce caseloads and improve
outcomes – something we hope to announce in the next month. Our
caseworkers have some of the toughest jobs in the state and giving them
the support and guidance they need to be successful is our top
priority.”

“We have to set those guidelines now,” said Sue Berkowitz, who runs Appleseed Legal Justice.

She
points to national child welfare organizations, like the Child Welfare
League of America, which have already developed standards that are used
in other states.

“I find it interesting that South Carolina needs
different standards than what the experts have already put together,”
Berkowitz said.

Among Midlands counties, new case data shows
workers in Lexington have the highest case average at 24. The snapshot
from May 19 shows 6 workers have at least 40 cases each.

Averages for other counties are:

Fairfield – 10

Kershaw – 20

Clarendon – 10

Richland – 17

Lee – 11

Sumter – 18

Calhoun – 8

Newberry – 22

Orangeburg – 9

Saluda – 10

The averages do not include supervisors or trainees who have 1 case.

“We’re
in the process right now of determining what is the right work the
right way. What are the actions to take,” said Malik Whitaker, a DSS
Regional Director.

If someone who is a caseworker has a high
caseload, they’re not going to be able to put the time, and energy, and
investigation, and follow up that’s needed to protect children,”
Berkowitz said.

Late Wednesday, DSS contacted News19 saying,”We submitted the standards on June 30th
as required and are awaiting their response. We included a draft of
the new caseload methodology which we plan to roll out in the coming
month.”

Come off your high horse, Ervin. Obamacare is what is bleeding counties dry. Taxpayers are going to save 400,000 state public worker’s healthcare plans with higher sales tax revenue.

Think about it, Ervin. Policies were rewritten. Premiums went way up. But the long term? Their kids are now on their policies till age 26. COBRA adds another 3-4 years.

The taxpayer is paying for a family of 6 till Dad and Mom dies and their kids are 30 years old.

Finally on Catawba trail in Lexington I had to sit while the road was patched. In all, it added an hour to the trip. Damn that Haley and her roadwork. Or are we mad becuase supposedly there isn’t any roadwork going on?
