COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON FACULTY UNANIMOUSLY REBUKE HIS SELECTION AS PRESIDENT
S.C. lieutenant governor Glenn McConnell was unanimously rebuked by faculty leaders at the College of Charleston, S.C. this week – with the school’s Faculty Senate issuing a stinging “no confidence” vote in its board of trustees over their selection of the Lowcountry politician as the school’s next president.
The vote comes on the heels of a student government tally that also went overwhelmingly against McConnell’s selection.
Meanwhile, there’s a huge front page spread in this week’s editions of The (Charleston, S.C.) Post and Courier highlighting the dissatisfaction of the school’s donors – including the chairman of the school’s foundation, who resigned in protest over McConnell’s hiring.
Oh … and as we exclusively reported a few days ago, the national outrage over McConnell’s selection is just beginning to warm up.
Add it all up and McConnell has some serious problems on his hands … and for that matter so do the trustees who tapped him to this six-figure, taxpayer-funded post.

This is an object lesson the how those with power that stems from the vote can use that power to overcome the will of the majority in corners where they should have no functional ability to do so.
It’s a bit of a irony to watch the biggest cheerleaders for statism get the boot on their neck from one of its proponents.
The staff and students are powerless and I love it.
*abject lesson*
lol, that too!
Like he cares. He is in power now and can make up any money lost by getting it from the General Assembly. He is laughing all the way to the bank. BTW, he only wants to be there for 5 years so he can drive his pension even higher.
BTW, he only wants to be there for 5 years so he can drive his pension even higher.
DING DING DING!
He’s under the old system, his retirement will be based on his highest 12 quarters (3 years).
3 years
Remember the “strawberry statement”? It also applies to faculty-thank goodness. I cannot think of a group less qualified to manage ANYTHING!
The board of C of C has been totally neutered by the pressure they caved to. McConnell is clearly superior to them in power. If they have a shred of honor, they should all resign.
Amen.
They would lose their good parking spaces in downtown Charleston, their neat license plates, their basketball and baseball tickets and special favors to get their friends’ children accepted into the College, into the best dorms and first choice with scholarships.
From what I understand, they would lose much, much, much more than just those perks.
They don’t have to like him, they just have to pay him large amounts of cash to do what likely amounts to nothing until he drops or retires. Just like every other well-connected pol.
Homophobes!!!!!
C of C is in a Catch 22 now. We now have a situation where the Board is beholden to the President not the other way around. My sources tell me the General Assembly strong armed, intimidated and threatened several board members over and above simply threatening their removal from the board. IMO, it was criminal. They will now be unable and unwilling to question McConnell and hold him accountable.
McConnell did it for Jean Toal and Toal got Alex Sanders to do it for McConnell. End of story.
2 wrongs don’t make a right!
It’s good to see people standing up to the Good Old Boys.
Wasn’t Alex Sanders once dean of CofC? He was a politician. Where was the outrage then?
Did he too use similar tactics to become such? If that’s the case, I’d wager that the “internets” has made more people more informed, and therein lies your answer.
So it’s the tactics you are opposed to, not his politics…???..Thank you for being so honest…
That said: You liberals are some ignorant MoFos…or you think we are…(which makes you just as ignorant)….
You’re so stupid I don’t want to waste the time explaining my comment to you.
Yep, the backroom dealing of the Good Old Boys doesn’t mix well with the new media.
He’s a liberal democrat…you know the same rules don’t apply to them. They are F*#k-ups incarnate…but it does not matter, because the left sides w/ them…
No. Sanders was President.
Which illustrates why this whole argument is so stupid.
College faculty are long on sabbatical and salary, but short on production and honest delivery of education…
I’d say FIRE the faculty…there are 20 qualified applicants waiting for every one of their no heavy-lifting, low-responsibility positions…
A pink slip may make those self-important and entitled pontificators STFU and do their jobs, instead of looking for some way to indoctrinate and agitate…
I would agree with you, T, but you left out a few of your buzzwords. BBRRAAAKKKKK! Libruls!! BBRRAAAKKK! Slap the piss outa them perfessors!! BBRRRAAAKKKKKK! Barack Obama (See what I did there?) BBRRRAAAKKK! Some beetches! BBRRAAKKKK Liberaltarians!
No Dumb@$$…I use fresh thoughts..I’m not a punch-drunk, empty-headed cliché liberal, like you…
You’re not Liberal…but the rest applies.
You must be new here. You’re just another ignorant puppet, son of B!*ch who tries to use my words to describe me, because you’re too stupid to come up w/ your own…
If you cannot create an original thought, why are you F*#k ups compelled to speak???…why not just STFU, which is what Dumb@$$#$ should do…
See children, this is what happens when you don’t take your Ritalin.
Actually, you’re using your own words (punch drunk, cliché, fuck up, dumbass…) to describe yourself. There’s a word for it: Projection.
Do you Dumb@$$#$ actually think if you can successfully attack me, it justifies your misguided and absurd ideology????…
Why not spend your time THINKING, and reflecting upon your failure…instead of trying to P!$$ on my because I point out your ignorance…
Somehow I’m thinking you don’t know many professors.
Considering that only full-time, tenured faculty can take a semester’s sabbatical or a year’s sabbatical (only paid for one semester) every 6-7 years I don’t understand your comment. Many tenured faculty only take one or two semester’s sabbatical in their entire career, some don’t ever take one or get turned down because they can’t justify the need.
But look who I’m talking to, the guy who shoots his mouth off on anything and everything, not knowing what he’s talking about the majority of the time. He’s FitsNew’s version of Al Sharpton.
Teaching in college is a sabbatical, compared to most REAL jobs, you ignorant F*#k…
And the fact that you so casually gloss over the “tenure” aspect of it, shows just how F*#king stupid, and out of touch, you really are…
Judges and college professors get tenure….two of the worst-performing jobs in America (at least the liberal ones)…how stupid is that???
So when exactly were you diagnosed with Tourette’s’ Syndrome?
If it’s such a cakewalk, why didn’t you persue that career? Maybe because you have to actually graduate high school first and that was the toughest six years of your life? Are you living proof that the world needs ditch diggers too?
Since I’m so wrong, why don’t you explain tenure and sabbaticals to me. I’d love to hear your version.
Exactly: You get off the subject when I go right to the heart of your ignorance and theft…
Easy there, Squishy! This man has a degree in Journalism, and I bet no one wants this dumbass teaching in such a forum.
The fact is McConnell would never have been selected if the politicians had not pressured the Board to select him. He is not qualified under any measure. He worked to create this image of himself as a politician who was honorable. His legacy is now forever tarnished. He has shown himself to be nothing more than a political hack. Good luck to the board at the College of Charleston, you have a new boss and if you cross him you will have the legislature to deal with. You work for him not the other way around.
Seriously, no fan of McConnell, but really, does it matter?! In the end, ALL college presidents are but pompous, arrogant, narcissistic, overpaid, ceremonious little windbags… and in that vain, McConnell will actually be better than most. I mean, if the man can run the Senate, than surely he can run a pretty good meeting of the CofC Board, faculty, students, donors or prospects.
The thing is that most prospective students have no idea who the college president is, which is fine, because like you said, the president doesn’t make or break the college. However, when your president has a reputation as an unqualified Good Old Boy who loves the Confederate flag, then people do notice and not in a good way.
So he likes the Confederate flag in his private life… uh, your point? Does he have slaves?… Does he have a sign over his office that says, “no coloreds”?… Does he have a history of lynching? No, and neither do the others who have an affinity for the Confederate flag. (Overwhelmingly, they fly the flag as a finger to a tyrannical government; something I increasingly have a hard time disagreeing with). You hate the flag?.. fine, I hate sanctimonious Yankees who live in the South.
LOL. My ancestors fought and some died under the Confederate flag, but if you really think people look at a college president in the 21st Century and think, “Gee, he loves the Confederate flag. That doesn’t affect my opinion of the college at all,” then you’re just clueless.
Yeah, back at ya, because my high academic achieving teenage kids, and their like minded friends, don’t give a flying flip about the flag… they neither worship it nor give a rat’s a$$ if someone is offended by it. Further, they were/are smart enough to see USC-Upstate and CofC for what they are becoming… Leftist-embracing higher ed factories that are little better than diploma mills. (Of course, the SAT scores and class rankings of my kids were/are such that these two schools weren’t/aren’t even on their radar). And finally, that “my ancestors fought and some died under the Confederate flag” plea from Southerners such as yourself is so stale, moldy and old. Seriously, go tell that to someone who gives a sh!t, because I – and so many more Southerners like myself – sure as he!! don’t care about you and your family.
Lol. You don’t care about my family (thank God) but then you spend a whole paragraph bragging about your brilliant sons. Maybe McConnell should be president wherever your brilliant sons are going to school.
Here is a list of the names of those who serve on the board. Click on their names (In red) and it will pull up their profile.

Yes, the Trustees have a problem on their hands… Funny, I don’t remember any of these complaints coming out of the General Assembly.
Just heard that the General Assembly punished one of the board members who opposed McConnell’s hiring. Daniel Ravenel (cousin to Arthur and T-Rav) got booted off the board even though he had no opposition. McConnell and his thug friends get even. Others better watch out, you’re next if you don’t follow your master. I guess McConnell does believe in slavery.
Just wondering….you think Daniel Ravenel might have gotten a push from his cousins when he was first elected? So the knife cuts both ways, huh?
Watch out, my ass! … You want complaints to be filed with Eric Holder’s office of civil rights? You want to see real trouble for these corrupt baboons at the college of Charleston? You want to see it go nationwide? Then so be it. McConnell and his homosexual affairs will end up exposed in the course of the backlash.
Eric Holder has no clue where South Carolina is and could not care less. If he did, there would have been at least a score of indicted politicians around Columbia alone. Have you heard of a single FBI agent doing anything more than get Bill Nettles’ car washed for his weekend dates in the past four years? Neither have I.
Your ignorance is noted.
Major protest march being planned in Charleston that could see 5000 to 10,000 marchers demanding McConnell be kicked to the curb. The march will end at Marion Square according to sources at the C of C.
Yeh sure.
McConnells salary to be just about at $400,000 a year, which by all means is insane. He is far from being qualified to run anything. And his history PROVES IT!. Throw him off now or the C of C will see the power of the people – the people who have had it will all the good old boy crap and kickbacks. Just like Bobby Harrell, McConnell is corrupt. He is just more sneaky at it than Harrell. Both are narcissistic psychopaths destined to fall so hard on their faces, they will never recover.
The chairman of the foundation is Sharon Kingman and she has not resigned.
And, in other news, a man spat into the ocean
