WHAT A SURPRISE, RIGHT?

The controversial candidacy of fiscal liberal, Confederate-loving S.C. Lieutenant Gov. Glenn McConnell (above, play clothes) is starting to heat up.

McConnell – whose desire to be the next president of the College of Charleston has drawn protests from fiscal conservatives as well as liberal diversity backers – is losing an online petition battle aimed at swaying those who will ultimately decide his fate.

A Change.org petition urging board members at the “College of Knowledge” to reject McConnell’s overtures has drawn 778 signatures.

“Glenn McConnell isn’t qualified for the job,” the petition reads. “McConnell has no experience working in higher education; nor has he ever been an executive or an administrator of a large organization. CofC students cannot afford an unqualified president who is divisive by the nature of his track record.”

Meanwhile a “Glenn is our man!” petition urging board members to select McConnell has drawn only 171 signatures.

“We know he will work tirelessly as an advocate to improve our school any way possible,” that petition states.

McConnell is as corrupt and fiscally reckless a state lawmaker as South Carolina has ever seen – but that’s not why we are opposing his candidacy for this position.

“Elected officials focused on securing six-figure taxpayer-funded lifeboats for themselves clearly do not have the best interests of taxpayers at heart,” we wrote last year. “And in addition to the cost of paying them these inflated salaries, we’re also on the hook for whatever government largesse they gave away in the process of securing these positions.”

That’s especially worrisome in McConnell’s case given the full-court legislative press that’s been undertaken on his behalf by powerful state leaders …

Well, FITS, I noticed you SAVAGED Randy Halfacre the other day…and a Sanford Stooge is appointed the head of the Columbia Chamber, right after your mean-spirited attack.

Co-inky-Dinky???….and isn’t Sanford’s Ex trying to get the Col-of-Chas. gig???

Maybe if the petition said “Glenn is our gal” the confusion would clear and he would garner more votes. Ask for a do-over Colonel.

That McConnell himself feels he has to resort to political pressure to get any job confirms he knows himself to be unqualified. I respect his judgement.

The threats (that the legislature would cut funding) to the college’s board began shortly after McConnell announced he wasn’t running for re-election.

But having effectively resigned from an elected position, McConnell is now a castrato — now lacking the power to strip the college of any of its funding. And the legislature isn’t about to “penalize” the College of Charleston for not appointing McConnell.

Board members are now just coming to realize that McConnell is a paper tiger.

Of all candidates, only McConnell threatened the board. The others were dignified and gracious.

Sounds like the other candidates were appropriately qualified. So glad to hear it. If he has any honor or grace, McConnell will withdraw his name from consideration.

If Glen doesn’t become President, I wonder how long it will be before the board is vacated in toto and Glen is on the board… just sayin’

The man and woman with Glennie are Gullah history re-enactors, and deeply dedicated to what they do. They smiled for the camera because we are all conditioned to smile for the camera. They attended the event as part of their educational work. It got twisted by the liberal media into a “Massa with happy darkie slaves” kind of a pic. It was nothing of the kind. I detest McConnell, but the way those two fine people got slammed in the process of a “gotcha” opp for his opponents was sickening.

Were you born yesterday? Liberals don’t GIVE a S#!t about anyone. They care about the leftist agenda and they will use anyone to attack anyone not in their camp.

Thank you for finally taking me out of the “liberal” column, BigT.

And yes. Yes indeed, I WAS born yesterday. At around noon. Thanks for asking.

Petitions?Who cares about that?

Its VOTES of the Board that counts. They couldn’t care less about that kind of stuff.

I would rate McConnell the favorite as of now.

You have to watch black comedian Erin Andre stunning civil war reenactors in Greenville SC. He decided to run through the camp as a slave attempting to escape just to see their reaction.

What a great way to give a dose of reality to the fun and games of fondly remembering a war that ruined the south for a century.

Listen for the last line when the slave owner shouts…”Come back here Toby!”

Dr. Strangelove March 20, 2014 at 4:04 pm

What’s amazing about the on-line petition is that people who sign their names, city, state and email addresses also post comments, like the one above. And the comments are all over the map — not just McConnell’s obsession with the Confederacy, lack of experience in education or with a large organization — but also with his obsession with power.

Many of the petition-signers believe, rightly, that McConnell’s possession of power is NOT a good thing, and that like an addict, he can’t control himself. That McConnell is something like Peter Sellers who plays multiple roles in Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 black comedy, “Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.”

Group Captain Mandrake

President Merkin Muffley

Dr. Strangelove

Of the three characters, McConnell most resembles Dr. Strangelove.

Strangelove is an ex-Nazi scientist, suggesting Operation Paperclip, the US effort to recruit top German technical talent at the end of World War II. He serves as President Muffley’s scientific adviser in the War Room. When General Turgidson (George C. Scott) wonders aloud what kind of name “Strangelove” is, saying to Staines (Jack Creley) that it is not a “Kraut name,” Staines responds that Strangelove’s original German surname was “Merkwürdigliebe,” without mentioning that “Merkwürdigliebe” translates to “Strangelove” in English. Twice in the film, Strangelove “accidentally” addresses the president as “Mein Führer”. Strangelove is warped; it’s a movie; it’s fiction.

McConnell is the real deal.

Sen. Darryl Jackson has offered to have the Richland County Election Commission – with Lillian McBride in charge – count the board’s votes for President of the C of C. The Chief Justice Jean Toal has announced she will review and approve whatever this Commission and McBride do so long as Glenn wins.

I suppose Glenn would bring with him that rag-tag group of racist baggage-handlers (secretary, et cetera) who’ve been on his staff since his Senate days, and his 5-man $500,000 a-year 24-7-365 SLED security detail, the thugs in black suits and dark glasses. . . They’d fit right in.

Glenn’s all for diversity. That’s “college student A” on the left and “college student B” on the right. An equal number of males and females. Everybody should own one of each.

Would it not be great for all those students at the CofC and the Citadel and Wando High School and Burke High School to dress up in Civil War Costumes and chase a man named Glen through the streets of charleston and have a flash party at the SLAVE museum…!!!

You might want to think about taking this post off of your webpage. Seems a bit irrelevant at this point.
