SOUTH CAROLINA BLACK LUMINARIES GO ON THE ATTACK …

This website has been effusive in its praise of U.S. Sen. Tim Scott at times … and harshly critical of him at other times. We base that praise (or criticism) exclusively on Scott’s votes as a member of the U.S. Congress.

His race has nothing to do with it …

Or so we thought …

Scott’s skin pigmentation became an issue during a segment on MSNBC this week when anchor Craig Melvin – formerly of WIS TV 10 (NBC – Columbia, S.C.) questioned former Barack Obama health care advisor Anton Gunn.

First, Melvin quoted race-baiting S.C. Rep. Todd Rutherford – who said that “the color of (Scott’s) skin certainly is not representative of the way that he votes on the policies that he seems to side with.”

Huh?

Scott was understandably indignant in response to Rutherford’s broadside, saying “the theory that there is some monolithic group of thinkers, called the black community, is not consistent with reality.”

Melvin’s take on all of this?

“Would Senator Scott’s election, would it come with an asterisk like Rutherford’s suggesting or seems to be suggesting here?” he asked Gunn.

Um … an asterisk?

Here’s the clip …

Good God … Melvin’s question is every bit as offensive than Rutherford’s initial comment. In fact it’s even more offensive because it comes from a professional journalist (someone who ought to know better).

“Would Mr. Melvin have asked Gunn the same question of Roland Burris, an African-American who was appointed to fill then-Senator Barack Obama’s Illinois Senate seat upon (his) election as president? Or does Melvin question the legitimacy of Scott’s Senate tenure because isn’t a Democrat?” the website NewsBusters asks.

Excellent questions …

Of course our founding editor was far more direct in his Twitter critique of Melvin’s question …

Whoa …

Again … we don’t always agree with Scott, but you better believe we will defend him against this sort of classless attack from the far left.

There really is no racism quite like the racism of blacks who go after other blacks for failing to fall in line, is there?

For real! Like many, I was sad to see him leave this market but glad for him in that he was apparently climbing up the ladder a few rungs.

Going to MSDNC isn’t exactly “climbing up the ladder a few rungs.” More like falling off the ladder completely into the very cesspool of race-baiting, America-hating, intellectually dishonest, wacky, far-out, plastic banana, left-wing kooks and nut jobs who do nothing but lie their asses off every single day and make complete fools of themselves.
Where else would somebody like Al Sharpton get a platform to spew his hate and lies on a daily basis after he engineered the Tawana Brawley debacle? Crown Heights? All of the race hustling to generate money? MSDNC….good for some laughs and lies but not so much for facts or intelligent discussion. Too bad Melvin.

Have you ever watched Melvin on MSNBC? That guy is a kook, leftwing radical nutjob. You should not be surprised….He has died and gone to liberal heaven in his new Affirmative-Action scam…

That said: FITS you do try to claim Scott is gay…so don’t play all on the up-and-up…

You’re not racist, you’re just a liar about what and who you are…You are a lot more likely to pander and patronize black people, like your Daddy, Sanford does…

I don’t believe Will has ever specifically said that Scott is gay. He may have mentioned the perception that a lot of people have on that count. So what?

Will,

According to your last statement on Melvin, you stated, “There really is no racism quite like the racism of blacks who go after other blacks for failing to fall in line, is there?” He didn’t “fall in line” by marrying white woman. So what makes you think he would be against a Black Republican for not falling in line. LOL!!! Your logic is off my friend!!

That’s funny: I had a friend of mine tell me that white women are considered trophies, taken from white men, by black men. It’s usually a sign of conquer, he told me..

Women, in all societies are considered legitimate plunder, according to one black commentator I heard.

Is that an attempt at sarcasm: ‘he can’t be racist.’ Yes he can! MSNBC is the most racist network on TV, so he found a job in the right place, where he can openly be a racist. Too bad no one will want him after they use him and dump him. The treatment of Tim Scott is a disgrace. Racist liberals claim to want ‘diversity,’ but it better not be diversity of ideology, opinion, politics. In that, you want totalitarian lock step. Keep on popping that Uncle Tom bullshit at SENATOR Tim Scott, I love seeing you show your collective asses.

You must be looking at an Al Sharpton video – I guess the sky is yellow your way. He was quoting Todd Rutherford when he asked Gunn the question regarding the asterisk. Therefore, you got nothing – go to bed! Lol!

BrigidBernadette February 18, 2014 at 8:42 pm

2) Are you saying Tim Scott is more likely to be a racist too?

3)Everybody’s at least a little bit racist.

4) Why are you making such a statement? Is it a contest?

5) Judge a man based on the content of his character, not the color of his skin. Racists come in every skin color, and racists are 100% more likely to be assholes than non-racists.

CL February 19, 2014 at 1:54 pm

I must admit, nothing rankles more than the unearned snark of the ignorant. The migration you talk about was basically complete before Johnson became president. The breakup of the South as a Democratic voting block began cracking with the New Deal and was fractured by the time Eisenhower was president. Eisenhower won a plurality of the Southern vote in 1956. I know the destructive power of the Great Society was immense, but I had no idea it could travel backwards in time.

Can you name any Democratic segregationist politician that joined the GOP other than Strom? George Wallace, Robert Byrd, Ross Barnett, each remained a Democrat til he drew his last breath. Yet Democrats just repeat this talking point without ever proving it. As Mencken noted, “The most common of all follies is to believe passionately in the palpably not true.”

Pertinent as defined by whom? What does that even mean? I suspect you define pertinent to mean that which supports your silly attacks and impertinent as anything that contradicts them.

But I would take the Republican Party’s record on the subject over the Democratic Party’s record any day of the week. The fact that you feel compelled to, pardon the pun, whitewash history by trying to recast the Democratic Party’s segregationist past as somehow being attributable to the GOP indicates that, in your heart of hearts, you know I am right.

Next essay will be on the effect of racism on the perception and psychology of those being oppressed – education, segregation and resulting opportunity.

Without power, there can be no racism… the Jews hated the Nazis – were they racist?

Reply
CL February 19, 2014 at 8:18 am

This is nonsense from start to finish. Skinheads in this country have no power, or certainly less power than the press. So the “logical” conclusion of your argument would be that skinheads are not racist. Obviously that strips the concept of any meaning whatsoever. Your claim is also incredibly patronizing to and infantilizing of black people, who you suggest are powerless (in a country where the president is black, for goodness sakes).

And I am sure many of the Jews persecuted by the Nazis came to hate their oppressors, but it had nothing to do with their race or nationality. So your statement is either a complete non sequitur or a slander (if you are really claiming Jews hated Nazis as stand ins for white protestants or Germans generally).

I take it you are unfamiliar with The Sunflower: On the Possibilities and Limits of Forgiveness by Simon Wiesenthal, which addresses the complicated moral issue of whether Jews should forgive the crimes committed against them by the Nazis. There is no easy answer, except to those of limited intellectual and moral development. But however you answer that question, your simplistic statement that “the Jews hated the Nazis” is certainly not universally true. There are many instances of grace and forgiveness among survivors that I doubt I could match if placed in similar circumstances.

“the Jews hated the Nazis”

Let’s be more specific – the Jews in the concentration camps.

CL February 19, 2014 at 2:52 pm

It is still too reductionist to say all camp prisoners were filled with hate towards their captors. But I am glad you felt the need to be more specific, it shows your understand that your initial sarcasm was misplaced.

The complexity of this issue is well captured in The Sunflower, which is about Wiesenthal’s time in a camp. He was being forced to tend to a dying German soldier who asked Wiesenthal for forgiveness for specific atrocities the soldier had committed against other Jews. Wiesenthal was kind to the soldier, holding his hand and swatting away a fly that was irritating the dying man, but ultimately Wiesenthal walked away without offering any forgiveness. But he was immediately conflicted and asked his fellow inmates (i.e. while still in the camp) whether he had done the right thing. Their response was not “f*** the Nazis.” It was, essentially, “who are you to speak for the dead and offer forgiveness for what he did to them?”

false choice. Can’t I be all three?

All of your caterwauling about how many Jews hated the Nazis is *so* pertinent to the analogy of blacks who resent whites for racism being itself called racism… notwithstanding the pathetic whining about “reverse racism.”

Vaguely reminiscent of the rich victims of the jealously of the poor.

Oh.. and the “historical” racism of the Democratic party migrating into the Republican party having no effect on policy – good luck with that, immigration man… or should I say food-stamp man?

CL February 19, 2014 at 4:18 pm

Apparently you can be all three. Caterwauling? You are the one who started snarking about my use of the phrase “many Jews” as opposed to your attempt to speak for all Jewish people. You have as much as conceded the point in your follow ups, but keep rambling if it makes you feel better.

Oh make no mistake, the Democratic Party is still plenty racist. Look at its treatment of black people who do not toe the party line. The Democrats had a stated policy of opposing minority and female judicial appointments under Bush (see Supreme Conflict by Jan Crawford, an ABC legal correspondent, for the dirty details). That is racism in its purest form.

The supposed racism of the Republican Party is another liberal myth that can be supported only from tendentious arguments of disparate impact from facially neutral policies. But using that logic, Democrats still come out looking like Bull Connor. “Progressive” policies have had a profoundly damaging impact on minorites. As Thomas Sowell has noted, the Great Society did what Jim Crow never could – cause the “disintegration of the black family, which survived centuries of slavery and generations of government-imposed discrimination in the Jim Crow era, but began coming apart in the wake of the expansion of the liberal welfare state and its accompanying social dogmas.” http://townhall.com/columnists/thomassowell/2012/03/20/race_and_rhetoric/page/full

Thanks for noticing. Your claim that all Jews didn’t hate Nazis was a great addition to our conversation… I have a tendency to make a blanket statement about Nazis that includes them all!

CL February 20, 2014 at 7:35 am

You were painting with to broad a brush, about Jewish people. You have now repeatedly lied and claimed I was somehow drawing distinctions among Nazis. But I should not be surprised. You cannot make an actual point, so you have nothing else to offer than lies.

euwe max February 20, 2014 at 8:18 am

You were painting with to broad a brush, about Jewish people.

——-
You mean my simple statement that Jews who hated Nazis were not racist? Yes, that was met with the white irises and cloudy pupils of the dead.

In order to disable the analogy, you “cleverly” sought to attack the size of the brush I used – for the Jews, but not the Nazis.

You can’t understand the simplest of analogies, and complicate every aspect of communication to make admitting it as difficult as possible,

But hey. I understand completely. It’s important to you not to “get it.” Deliberate ignorance is nothing new, and it’s not very sophisticated.

You’re just a poor victim of mean old liberals, having your sensitive nose tweaked in public, when all you ever wanted was people to accept you as a crypto bully.

CL February 20, 2014 at 9:15 am

Spare me the sanctimonious nonsense about how I do not get your idiotic analogy. There is nothing to get. Even if every Jew everywhere hated Nazis with a universal and undying passion, it has nothing to do with racism because there is no evidence to support the notion that Jewish people hated Nazis because of their race.

If you want to slander them by suggesting otherwise, then prove it. But you are not kidding either of us by pretending there is something I am missing or by again trying to mischaracterize how the discussion proceeded.

I did not avoid your analogy or try to disable anything. I directly pointed out the obvious and idiotic flaw in your “logic” that would require us to conclude skinheads in this country were not racist (which you still have not addressed in these countless, pointless posts of yours). It was you that tried to change the subject by quibbling about my word choice. That did not end well for you either, since you conceded the point.

At some point, you just need to realize how pitiful you sound and stop trying to salvage your undeserved intellectual vanity.

euwe max February 20, 2014 at 10:47 am

Spare me the sanctimonious nonsense about how I do not get your idiotic analogy. There is nothing to get.
——-
I have only begun to sanct. Saying there’s nothing to get is just another way to say you don’t get it. Claiming nothing is there is just something to say so you don’t have to admit it.

Trick number one. Lookest thou over there. Thus endeth the trick.

there is no evidence to support the notion that Jewish people hated Nazis because of their race.
——–
my point was hating one’s oppressor isn’t racism. If Nazis claimed Jews were racist because they resented the holocaust, they couldn’t be right, because Jews were not in power during the holocaust, no matter what else may have been the case. You’re just beginning to admit that hatred because of oppression can’t be converted to racism.

White people aren’t a pure race, neither are blacks, the Nazis, or the Jews.

We call it racism when a group in power oppresses another group because of recognizable racial characteristics. It makes no sense for the oppressor to call his victims racist because they hate him.

CL February 20, 2014 at 11:51 am

“my point was hating one’s oppressor isn’t racism. If Nazis claimed Jews were racist because they resented the holocaust, they couldn’t be right, because Jews were not in power during the holocaust, no matter what else may have been the case.”

No, its not racism because the Jews in this example don’t give a crap about the color of the folks ushering them into a gas chamber.

“We call it racism when a group in power oppresses another group because of recognizable racial characteristics.”

No, that is not the definition of racism, it is an example of racism. The Oxford English Dictionary defines racism as “the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.”

Nary a mention of power. Check any mainstream dictionary and you will see that it is belief that is the touchstone of racism, not power. You are wrong. Just admit it. You’ll feel better.

euwe max February 20, 2014 at 4:03 pm

No, its not racism because the Jews in this example don’t give a crap about the color of the folks ushering them into a gas chamber.

——
The color? The “master race” did not identify themselves solely by color, neither is race mainly concerned with color (despite what pappy may have told you). and the point I made is that hating the “master race” because of oppression would not be racism – even if color were their main claim to fame.

CL February 20, 2014 at 5:22 pm

“The color? The “master race” did not identify themselves solely by color, neither is race mainly concerned with color (despite what pappy may have told you). ”

I was unaware of the vast number of non-white Aryans. I also never realized racists did not care about skin color. Please tell me more. I expected you to try to change the subject again, but this is pathetic even for you. You can call me or my father whatever moronic insults you can dream up, but that does not change the fact that you are still advocating a definition of racism that excludes Adolph Hitler while he was dictating Mein Kampf in prison.

euwe max February 20, 2014 at 5:23 pm

I was unaware of the vast number of non-white Aryans.

——
You seem to also be unaware that race is not exclusively concerned with color.

CL February 20, 2014 at 5:28 pm

“I’m afraid you are also unaware that race is not exclusively concerned with color.”

I never said that, and you are still trying to change the subject.

euwe max February 20, 2014 at 5:44 pm

The subject is, if the racist who oppresses is in power (as the Nazis were), then the hate of the oppressed (in this case the Jews) is not racism.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wH5_uREXkjM

Your whining about the size of the brush I used notwithstanding.

CL February 20, 2014 at 7:27 pm

Show me a single definition in a credible dictionary that adds at the end “unless those beliefs are directed at a group with greater power.” Hitler believed a Jewish conspiracy was oppressing him, so he still gets to avoid being a racist under your made up definition.

euwe max February 21, 2014 at 10:38 am

——–
Damn, you’re dumb!

If there *was* a Jewish conspiracy in power, oppressing him, then his anger towards them would not qualify as racism.

But even so, once he was in power and oppressed *them*, he was a racist, and their anger towards him for his oppression would not quality.

Because, you splooge-gargling bottle squatter, if you are powerless under oppression, your oppressor is the bad guy!

CL February 21, 2014 at 1:42 pm

I must be missing in your post the dictionary cite I asked for. When you post it, can you flesh out the exact moment when Hitler was eligible to be considered a racist. Silly me, going my whole life thinking he was pretty much one his whole life. Darned SC public schools.

And there is still the tiny problem with your made up definition that we would pretty much have to have passed this mystical rite of passage where a black person can be considered racist, given that a black man is running the country and all. So your original argument is still refuted, just by you this time instead of me.

Why do people watch cable news? It’s trash. MSNBC and Fox consist of heavy propaganda and CNN is better at covering celebrity news than anything else. Calling cable news journalism is like calling Here Comes Honey Boo Boo a gripping documentary for highly intelligent viewers.
