Those two words by Congressman Joe Wilson reverberated across our Nation as a warning four years ago – yet they were ignored. In fact, Congressman Wilson was excoriated for not following proper “protocol” by calling out  “You Lie!” at President Barack Obama during a join address to the U.S. Congress in September 2009.

As often happens, brave men and women who state what is right are not appreciated until time has passed.

Congressman Wilson AND the State of South Carolina endured tremendous ridicule for his statement, but history will make him a hero. At this point, there are millions in America who could care less about protocol when their insurance policies have been cancelled and Obamacare is forcing them into an inferior product at a much higher cost.

At least someone in the media realizes how right Congressman Wilson was.

“Many in America were shocked that anyone would call the President of the United States a liar in such a forum as a presidential address to a joint session of Congress,” columnist Richard Kline wrote recently. “But, now, as we look back on 5 years of Barack Obama, we see that Obama and his Administration do lie. And they lie a lot.”

Congressman Wilson not only warned us that President Obama lied about Obamacare four years ago, he revealed a deeper truth that if someone lies about one thing they will likely lie about another – and that could be indicative of a manipulative personality. We all lie in some way, large or small, but when people in positions of great power lie, we all suffer.

It takes courage to tell the truth, particularly in the midst of strong political forces (as I experienced in my role in state government) but Congressman Wilson did. Not only that, he did so in front of the biggest media audience in America – and no one listened. Now those members of Congress (none of whom were Republicans) who voted for what may become one of the most disastrous lies in American history will have to live with the consequences, along with the American people who are paying for this debacle.

In fact las month a liberal, Doctor Margaret Flowers, co-authored an article called: “Obamacare: The Biggest Insurance Scam in History” and appeared on the liberal Bill Moyers and Company television show to demonstrate how Obamacare follows the trajectory of an insurance scam.

It seems we can all agree on this failure.

I am a proud South Carolinian and have been a Republican all my life, but we need more elected and appointed officials with the courage to stand up and tell the truth no matter the ridicule or the political party. That’s what real America wants.

Therefore, I hereby nominate Congressman Joe Wilson for the first Francis Marion Award for fearless courage in his duty to the State of South Carolina and the Nation.

Have anyone heard of the new Obama doll? It’s an ‘inaction figure’. You pull his string and nothing happens. Push his buttons and he goes on vacation. Twist his arm and he reads a carefully worded speech from his teleprompter. Turn him upside down and he talks out of his backside and says ‘It’s not my fault.’. The deluxe model gives money to terrorists when you’re not looking. Order now and get the plush ‘sheeple’ doll for free (just pay everything you have for taxes and shipping).

Too much to pass up. Obama has eliminated more terrorists than any gun-toting Republican doofus could ever fantasize about eliminating. And he didn’t even need to conduct an illegal assault on a country based on phony evidence of WMDs. If he reads from a teleprompter, that is still beyond his competition, many of whom would be lucky to read at all. I do agree about the sheeple point, though — Just take a look around South Carolina.

9 out of 10 of those who eliminated terrorists are gun toting Republican doofuses. Liberals don’t serve in the military.

Watching Obama try to govern would be like trying to get a drunk meth-head to develop the software for the weapons system for an F-22. Both hopeless tasks, although, I’ll put my money on the meth-head.

Joe Wilson is a dim-witted horse’s ass for disrespecting the Office of the President of the United States in a Joint Session of Congress. Whether he knew or not of lies/lying (and he didn’t, of course) is besides the point. He, like Preston Brooks in 1856, is simply another SC House Member to gain national infamy rather than famous acclaim.

Not to be one-upped by Wilson, Jeff Duncan last week proved himself to be an able contender for SC’s weakest mind and loosest tongue when he signed on as one of 20 Members to ask for the AG’s impeachment.

We in SC can’t seem to help ourselves from propagating a culture of hell no. 350 years of bitching and moaning about how our way is best has gotten us exactly where? Better than Mississippi or Alabama?

In 1872, Sumner visited the Congressional Cemetery; when a friend pointed out a cenotaph of Brooks and asked Sumner how he felt about Brooks. Sumner said “Only as to a brick that should fall upon my head from a chimney. He was the unconscious agent of a malign power.”

Indeed…

“..disrespecting the Office of the President of the United States”

It is the DUTY of every American to disrespect ANY office which is being used to abuse the people of the United States. Acton’s Axiom doesn’t just say that power corrupts. It also reminds us all that

Great men are almost always bad men, even when they
exercise influence and not authority, still more when you
superadd the tendency or the certainty of corruption by
authority. There is no worse heresy than that the office
sanctifies the holder of it.

You would have us commit societal suicide by holding our tongues just because of the OFFICE someone holds?

Reply
whoareyourpeople? November 17, 2013 at 10:25 pm

Preston Brooks was a great American. He rightly beat the ungentlemanly Senator Sumner for mocking his uncle who had suffered a stroke. The dog Sumner got less than he deserved. Yankee trash………….BTW, it’s “beside” the point, not “besides”.

Reply
El Kabong November 18, 2013 at 6:14 am

One of the most bitter critics of the attack was Sumner’s fellow New Englander, Representative Anson Burlingame (Republican-Massachusetts). When Burlingame denounced Brooks as a coward on the floor of the House, Brooks challenged him to a duel, and Burlingame accepted the challenge. Burlingame, as the challenged party, specified rifles as the weapons, and to get around American anti-dueling laws he named the Navy Yard on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls as the site. Brooks, reportedly dismayed by both Burlingame’s unexpectedly enthusiastic acceptance and his reputation as a crack shot, neglected to show up, instead citing unspecified risks to his safety if he was to cross “hostile country” (the Northern states) to reach Canada. He was subsequently mocked as a coward by Northerners for the rest of his life

Preston Brooks was a coward pure and simple.

Reply
Slartibartfast November 18, 2013 at 10:14 am

Your story of Brooks’ excuse is apocryphal. Considering the source, it may or may not be true. One thing is true. Sumner and Stephens were cowards who were perverting the Constitution even before “the Late Unpleasantness.”

Obama Says Americans Can Keep Their Damn Insurance

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) — Faced with a barrage of new questions about the Affordable Care Act, President Obama cut short a White House press conference today, telling the stunned press corps, “You know what? Everybody can keep their damn insurance.”

Glaring at the reporters, the President continued, “You heard me. If your insurance is crappy, then you just go ahead and keep it — the crappier, the better. Let’s pretend this whole thing never happened.”

A vein in his forehead visibly throbbing, the President added, “You know, I really wish I hadn’t spent the last three years of my life on this thing. I should’ve just gone around invading countries for no reason. That would’ve made everybody happy. Well, live and learn.”

As the reporters averted their eyes from the President, many of them looking awkwardly at their shoes, he concluded his remarks: “All those people out there who want to repeal Obamacare? Well, guess what: I’ll make their day and repeal it myself. Really, it’s my pleasure. But I swear that this is the last time I try to do something nice for anybody.”

Right or wrong, you don’t embarrass the State of SC by making a damn fool of yourself in a major international public forum.

There is no justification for inconsiderate behavior.
Like him, or not, Obama is still the President of the United States of America, and thus deserves the respect.

Wilson can “disagree, but not be disagreeable.”

He may have voiced his opinion of someone that deserves it but he kept his mouth shut and sold us down the river on this legislation. He gave the president, the one he said lied, permission to detain American Citizens indefinitely without charging them, granting them legal representation and this to be carried out by the military at THE PRESIDENT’S DISCRETION!!! All this for simply SUSPECTING American Citizens of terrorist activities. Not a hero, an opportunist and this is demonstrated by his actions!!

More taxes, less health care for those covered, less coverage for people with regular health care as their costs are higher…. unless this government gets out of the medical business. WE WANT OUT HEALTH CARE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!
