In honor of U.S. President Barack Obama and his spectacularly failed government-run health care law, today’s tuneage is “Terrible Lie” from industrial rockers Nine Inch Nails.

Originally recorded for the band’s 1989 debut album Pretty Hate Machine (in which frontman Trent Reznor played pretty much every instrument), this version of the song was recorded live for NIN’s 2007 concert video Beside You In Time.

“Terrible Lie” was written by Reznor in the late 1980s while he was working as a janitor and handyman in Cleveland Ohio. Also, Pretty Hate Machine was one of the first independently released records to be certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (it is currently certified triple platinum, in fact).

Our founding editor saw NIN live in Columbia, S.C. in 1995 but there was a lot of acid involved. He remembers green lasers, and a video of a decomposing animal … that’s about it.

(Especially for South Carolina’s No. 1 NIN fan).
