U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (RINO-S.C.) has an abysmal voting record … and polls show his support among Republican primary voters in South Carolina is lagging. But will any of that translate into a financial windfall for his three announced opponents?
We’ll find out soon … maybe.
The most recent federal fundraising quarter concluded on September 30, and Charleston businesswoman Nancy Mace, S.C. Sen. Lee Bright and social conservative businessman Richard Cash will file their campaign reports within the next few days. Graham will also file his report – hoping to eclipse the record $1.4 million he raised during the second quarter of 2013.
Here’s the question, though (well aside from the obvious “how much money did they raise?”): Will these reports be processed and posted by the Federal Election Commission (FEC)?
Nope … at least not until the partial government shutdown is over. Only four of the FEC’s 340 employees were deemed “essential,” so they have been sent home.
Hmmm … last time we checked safeguarding the integrity of an election was a core function of government.
Of course we’ve been wrong on that before …
Anyway, since the FEC is out of action FITS has invited all of the U.S. Senate candidates to voluntarily disclose their fundraising totals.
We’ll let you know if any of them take us up on the offer …

Wonder how many people helped Mace fill her minivan. I’m guessing a half dozen or so.
It’ll be interesting to see OpenSecrets on the candidates coming up to the primary.
Her boyfriend Davis probably helped fill it.
If he wears a condom, is that filling up the minivan?
The FEC is considered non-essential. Finally, the government agrees with me.
My sources say…8 percent in the primary.
