Sources at the S.C. Department of Social Services (SCDSS) and the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) tell FITS the Palmetto State’s notoriously incurious mainstream media is “finally beginning to ask questions” about state government’s failure to follow through on Gov. Nikki Haley’s so-called “war on fat.”
Declared in February of this year, Haley proposed to fight obesity in South Carolina by seeking a waiver from the federal government limiting the dietary choices of food stamp recipients. The goal was to encourage them to eat healthier foods.
As we reported last month, though, nothing has happened with regard to this effort. More than six months after Haley’s declaration (and more than two months after a round of public hearings on the food stamp waiver), the governor’s administration has yet to submit its request to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
We supported Haley’s plan to encourage better dietary choices among these dependents. In fact we endorsed a specific proposal put forward by her health czarina, Catherine Templeton, which would have done just that. However neither Templeton nor Haley appear to have any explanation as to why this effort has stalled.
WTF, ladies? This isn’t complicated. Just ask for the waiver already!
While Haley twiddles her thumbs, Palmetto State residents keep getting fatter. And poorer.
A whopping 31.6 percent of Palmetto State adults were obese (not just overweight) last year – up from 30.8 percent in 2011. South Carolina is the seventh-fattest state in America according to the data, released last week by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Trust for America’s Health.

Do the taxpayers foot the tab for the groceries eaten by the first family? Does that make them just like food stamp recipients?
She lives in public housing and uses public transportation but she pays for the groceries she and her immediate family consumes but not food for public functions such as entertaining prospective businesses and their leaders. The food is prepared by a state employee. I assume a state employee does the laundry and runs the vacuum too.
Political functions at the Gov’s House are supposed to be paid for by the sponsors of the political event. e.g. the specific parties. Perhaps the LAC should audit to assure she and her kids are eating 5 fruits and veggies a day.
So if they probing a delay in the war in fat will they start by rolling it around in flour and looking for the wet spot?
People eat what they too and will continue to do so regardless…..
I’m gonna have to SUE over that pic! Dammit, you got my bad side, too.
Yeah – you deserve to collect royalties……..
Boz got some Blue Dolphin…
Where does his belly stop, and his package begin?
The Feds did a study on Florence Area to try and find out why this area of SC were having so many Heart Related Deaths. The conclusion of the study was the residents were eating too many Grits.
SC obesity is simply due to fat fucks not caring that they consume more calories than they burn. Eat less than maintenance, lose weight. Eat more than maintenance, gain weight. Eat maintenance, weigh the same. Diet has MUCH more influence than exercise in weight loss, though there are many other benefits to exercise.
Fat fucks don’t mentally connect fatfuckitude with other health problems including diabetes, but amputations will certainly reduce weight. If you are fat, it’s because you are a slack piece of shit who CHOOSES to be fat. Bubba and LaQueefa devour sugars and carbs then wonder why their folds drag the ground and their thigh chafing ignites their clothing. You don’t have to spend much to eat well, and can save money by a healthy diet. I do and it isn’t rocket science.
