What a difference winning makes …
The University of South Carolina – which was struggling to fill seats at Williams-Brice Stadium four years ago – announced this week it had sold 51,500 season tickets for the 2013 season, its highest total since 2008. The school also announced that single game tickets for home tilts against Florida (November 16) and arch-rival Clemson (November 30) were sold out.
“We are very appreciative of our fans supporting Coach (Steve) Spurrier and our football team to this level,” USC athletics director Ray Tanner said. “We are in the midst of the greatest era in Gamecock football history and the pre-season polls have us continuing that success this season.”
South Carolina enters the 2013 season ranked No. 7 in the nation after winning a school record 11 games in back-to-back seasons – and earning the program’s first-ever Top Ten finishes.
The Gamecocks have won a pair of big bowl games – as well as three straight games over SEC East rivals Georgia and Tennessee and four straight games over head coach Dabo Swinney’s Tigers.
Despite the hype, Spurrier continues to downplay expectations … referring to his squad as an “unknown team.”
Led by Heisman Trophy candidate Jadeveon Clowney, USC opens its upcoming campaign on Thursday, August 29 at home against the University of North Carolina. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. EDT with ESPN televising the game nationally.

Struggle is not really a fair description. Attendance was down across the country because of the economy, but our attendance relative to other schools was remarkably consistent from 2007-2012. USC was usually either 17th or 18th, with one year where it rose to 16th and one where it dropped to 19th. I linked to a report with the 2011 attendance. Just change the year in the URL to see different seasons.
