Dear Editor: Your layout is going from bad to worse. Do you think we can’t see? It’s not the look’s but the content. Big photos stink.

You also don’t seem to follow up on the stories. What about the gambling and drugs in Columbia, S.C.?

Video poker is not legal. Try again. you may get it right one day. People read your page to get news the other news wire are scared to show.

Thanks for your feedback. Most FITS readers love the new layout, but I’m genuinely sorry it’s not your cup of tea. As for your contention that I “don’t seem to follow up on stories,” it is curious that you mention the gambling issue. Along with WIS TV-10 (NBC – Columbia, S.C.), FITS drove coverage of the “Lexington Ring” gambling scandal for months last year – and continues to track it. And I’ve never said video poker is legal in South Carolina – only that I believe it should be.

I like the new site mostly. What I don’t like I really don’t care about (respectfully. Not bad, I just can’t care about the entire fracking world.)

It would be nice if you would institute some sort of browser detection to allow those on pc’s to not have to see a week old story in the feed. Or, is this by design to keep issues hot? Hmmm? Interesting.

I do like the new latest selection navRight, but it doesn’t seem to update accurately. Maybe I’m just to used to hitting the refresh button from the old site (or maybe I’m just a fracking political junkie and expect all sites to feed me new stuff to whine about every 5 fracking seconds!! :P)

I’m glad you posted this. I’m not crazy about the layout, either, but it’s readable on a pc. But the mobile site is a wreck (iphone user here); any comment thread of any length is unreadable. And unloadable, half the time. Maybe it’s a Disqus thing; Disqus is just a crappy platform.
I would think a lot of your readers, you know, the ones who work for the state and are not supposed to be reading Fits during the day, use their mobile devices to view the site, so maybe it would be a good thing for you and them if the mobile version were more user friendly.

If you get feedback like that, you’re doing a good job.
I design and code websites for a living. It happens to me all the time. Most will like the changes, but a few will complain.

Well how about pitching in and give him a basic browser detect for his layout.

And yes, the pictures ARE too big. Ridiculously so.
As much as I hated the content (but read because I enjoy pain), your original site was nice and clean and spiffy looking, and it was easy to follow on a mobile device.

After the election, perhaps Nancy Mace can come back and fix it.

I have problems on the site when I’m on my iPhone. I use a different browser than Safari, though, so I’m not sure if maybe that’s causing the issue. It’s like the page is extremely slow to scroll sometimes, especially when there’s a lot of comments.

I’d still say it is an improvement though.

It’s the same with Safari.

Some organization by subject would help. The mash up of all the stories at the home page, the fact there is “SC Politics” and “South Carolina” which appear to overlap – sometimes.
If this is an example of Nancy Mace’s last work for this site, you can certainly see she was in a hurry to haul ass.

On a ‘Droid the homepage is compressed on the left side of the screen.

More followips on stories are needed. For example, some strong allegations were made about a local church, a week or so ago. They were to have a congregational meeting last Thursday(?) and…….???

Everyone hates it when one of their most visited sites updates it’s format. I think the new layout looks pretty good, but I will miss the old one until I get used to this. Just remember how the web used to look, and know if sites didn’t update it would still look like it did in the link below.

I usually don’t like new formats. I’m not keen on this one. I’ll like it and forget the old one by September.

Sic, as a longtime reader I agree with the writer. Seems the format gets worse and the content is weak. Get your fire back. And repeat after me, ORIGINALITY.
