According to the latest report by insurance experts, South Carolina families and businesses may see the price of health insurance increase by up to 70 percent as a result of the massive Obama-Sheheen health care takeover.
“Overall, we expect to see average rates increase by 50-70 percent in the individual market and 10-20 percent in the small group market.”– John Farmer, Director of the S.C. Department of Insurance (Joey Holleman, “SC Claims Obamacare Will Cost You Big-Time”, The State, 8/2/13)
“These additions and changes add unavoidable additional expense for our customers.” — BlueCross BlueShield of S.C. (Joey Holleman, “SC Claims Obamacare Will Cost You Big-Time”, The State, 8/2/13)
“I don’t see much choice, and without choice there isn’t much of a market,” – Lynn Bailey, health care economist (Joey Holleman, “SC Claims Obamacare Will Cost You Big-Time”, The State, 8/2/13)
20-year-olds could see up to 151 percent increases, 30-year-olds could see up to 162 percent increases and 40-year-olds could see up to 134 percent increases. — S.C. Department of Insurance (Joey Holleman, “SC Claims Obamacare Will Cost You Big-Time”, The State, 8/2/13)
In response, South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Matt Moore issued the following statement:
“Vince Sheheen has spent four years supporting Obamacare, and now the people of South Carolina are stuck paying for it – to the tune of an insurance hike of up to 70 percent.”
“Just as bad, the Sheheen-Obamacare disaster limits choices and takes away South Carolinian’s ability to decide what coverage is best for their family. That’s what Vince Sheheen wants for South Carolina – fewer choices, higher costs, and all of us paying more and getting less,” continued Chairman Moore.
Background
The South Carolina Department of Insurance Expects Health Insurance Plans To “Increase Significantly” January 1, 2014 Under Obamacare.
“The S.C. Department of Insurance announced Friday afternoon that it expects the premiums for individual health insurance plans to “increase significantly” on Jan. 1.” (Lauren Sasser, “Some Health Insurance Plans May Increase By 70 Percent Next Year In S.C., Department Of Insurance Estimates”, The Post And Courier, 8/2/13)
Plans In The Individual Market Could Increase Up To 70 Percent Under Obamacare.
“The department expects premiums for plans in the individual market to increase by 50 to 70 percent. Group plans offered by employers may increase by 10 to 20 percent.” (Lauren Sasser, “Some Health Insurance Plans May Increase By 70 Percent Next Year In S.C., Department Of Insurance Estimates”, The Post And Courier, 8/2/13)
Plans Offered By Employers Could increase Up to 20 Percent Under Obamacare.
In 2010, Vince Sheheen Supported ObamaCare.
“Democratic gubernatorial nominee Vincent Sheheen … supports much of federal health care reform.” (John O’Connor, “Sheheen Backs Health Reform, Immigrant Law”, McClatchy Newspapers, 8/26/10)
In March 2013, Sheheen Supported The Expansion Of Medicaid Through Obamacare In South Carolina.
“South Carolina should give health insurance to more poor people — at least as long as the federal government is willing to pay for it, state Sen. Vincent Sheheen said Thursday. The announcement, made on the campus of the Medical University of South Carolina, focused mostly on Gov. Nikki Haley’s refusal to expand the program under the federal Affordable Care Act…” (Adam Beam, Sheheen Endorses Temporary Expansion Of Medicaid, The State, 3/7/13)

So, that’s how it works…..SC GOP votes to reject “ObamaCare” and not participate in the exchange, correct? And now, puts out communiques saying Obamacare will cause increase in insurance rates? Hmnnnn, 1+1 doesn’t equal 2 in this case……amazing how the “uneducamacated” of this state are duped again.
I predict next, the GOP will be talking about the evils of the tax credits……..while putting them all in their own pocket. I seem to remember one Sen DeMint doing the same thing with all the South Carolina Stimulus money (tax credits), putting it all in his pocket, sprinkling some to his cronies and turning Greenville/Spartanburg into one nice southern town at the expense of rest of SC………while grandstanding about the evils of tax money and how business should stand on their own feet.
Same concept coming with these tax credits FITS, I am sure you can already ID the guilty politicos who will benefit! Would love to see you get ahead of this story.
Glad to see you back, Dr. Marcus… I thought that you might have quit, like so many of the other (former) commentators from the original website have.
This site gets harder to read with every redo. The mobile version is still a mess.
I’m only here because I’m a masochist
Where do you people come from. Middle of the night, log off log on vote your comments up. Fracking HufPo love fest going on around here.
Medicare, Obuttheadcare and Social Security is theft of the livelihood of your children and grandchildren and anon.

Well, damn, the SCGOP has been running this state for as long as I can remember and look at the splendid job they’ve done.
George Costanva: “It became very clear to me sitting out there today, that every decision I’ve ever made, in my entire life, has been wrong. My life is the opposite of everything I want it to be. Every instinct I have, in every of life, be it something to wear, something to eat … It’s all been wrong.”
If SCGOP voters were smart, they would realize that it’s not about ideology and talking points. It’s about competence. And, the once GOP ain’t got a bit of that.
Democraps and Repuklitards. Two sides of the same coin. Sheheen and Haley have the exact same credentials. Libitards one and all.
Nobody cares what Castanza thinks.
Apparently no one gives a shit what you think either. ’bout as redundant as BigT, Frankie.
I don’t come here for praise, I come here to persuade.
You see, if you keep coming back you will eventually come to realize that you have been misguided by the few and the powerful to bend you to there will. That’s why you buy Coksi, eat McCheetonickers and pay your taxes on time every time. Advertising is not an attempt to make you do something, but to convince you that it is correct and proper.
Excepting the aforementioned, their are two other types that come here.
1. Your a HufPo pro. Paid to create divergence from normality, which in turn increases the number of people that visit the site for nothing more than the shear interest of ‘virtual violence’.
2. You have a site of your own, similar to 2big2fall. His/her interest is in getting people to visit his/her site. So he comes and makes a fuss every now and again and people check out his site. Regardless of the reason his advertising revenues increase because of the increase in traffic, similar to here.
Either way, your still nothing more than a piece on the board (as am I). The difference is that you are a pawn. Ineffectual at best, where I am closer to a rook. I have autonomy and speak, when called for, appropriately or humerously.
Most times though I speak effectively against those that would attempt to dissuade the truly interested from diverging from a thoughtful meeting on matters of politics. What you would no doubt call being ‘an ass’.
Have a Great Day!! :) There won’t be many left with the Demlicans and Republicrats in charge. :)
Persuade? Here, I’ll see if I can help you some:

Yeah, back to my latte…
You say Faggot. I say Oshitforbrains. We work with the tools God gave me :)
With all due respect, I think you need to re-examine how to peruede people.

For Shame.
It’s funny Costnza’s theory is mentioned. With many people, human emotions….(see seven deadly sins) drive their thoughts, his theory is absolutely correct.

Maybe it has something to do with rejecting exchanges that would have caused competition…the more you know…

Sheheen knew all along he and other politicians would not be hurt by it and he was like the rest of the democrats Obama bough nothing more than a lackey!
Sheheen is only a lackey boy for the rich white elite SC Democrats who want their positions and gravy trains back. Clyburn? They let him have that cracked up district to save the rest of the areas for themselves. And he got to keep the jobs that came with that position for his family members.
Gee, you’re smarter than most of your kind.
You realize that the Republic Party is responsible for gerrymandering.
The feds are responsible for gerrymandering. The local Repuklicrats and Demoshits just hopped on for the ride.
The state legislature draws up the lines, subject to the 1965 Voting Rights Act which recently was itself subject to a ruling by the Supreme Court. In SC, the system was most helpful to Republicans and black Democrats, going back to 1994. Judge for yourself the success by the quality of elected legislators since then.
That does not change the fact that it is a federally required program.
Frank, you can opt out of it with a pretty small penalty. I’ve been told the numbnutt states like this one are planning on creating offsets for the young that don’t want to join. Personally, I’ll be glad to join, despite the fact I’m relatively young and healthy. It’s better than shelling out $4,500 a year with a $5,000 deductible. But hey, keep yelling the sky is falling. When all these predictions turnout to be nonsense, you’ll move onto whatever fresh outrage Fox “News” cooks up.
Hell, anything beats actual governing, right Republicans?
“Frank, you can opt out of it with a pretty small penalty.”
for one year…..then the penalties get huge quickly subsequent years.
“It’s better than shelling out $4,500 a year with a $5,000 deductible.”
If you are under 40 you have rude awakening coming….the exchanges aren’t up anywhere yet….but I guarantee you that in the end you’ll pay way more than what you pay now by the time the exchanges are up and running.
Also, this is going to put a lot of small business owners out of business once the full force of it kicks in.
Small business won’t get the waivers the big corps get and won’t get the waivers that the gov’t employees get(aides for example).
I don’t have to opt out. I only have to do everything I can to keep little money grubbing libitard whores, Democraps and Repuklicrats alike, out of my pocket.
I don’t have to opt out because I have a job. I bust my ass all day everyday. I earn what I get.

Why do my rates keep going down.
Your children and grandchildren are paying for your insurance.

Hilaryous!!! The ACA was hatched by the Heritage Foundation, a ultra right wing think tank, now headed by Jim DeMint. Where do you think Mitt Romney got the health care plan for Massachusetts??
So do you agree we should be stealing from our children by using Obuttheadcare?
Also, Mr. 16’s statement is fact-challenged. Obamacare isn’t ANYTHING like the Heritage Foundation’s idea, which was a market-based plan that allowed interstate health savings plans. Dr. Ben Carson’s tweakings are better, and is the plan DeMint favors, in any case.
Hell yes!

I’m not crazyass over the GOP, but I wouldn’t mind taking them over. Less cleanup on aisle 5.
Hell yes!
You people are so absolutely terrified that Obamacare is going to be the greatest life saving thing to come along since Medicare and be just as popular…it’s hilarious.
Medicare is a babysitting service for frightened old people that have forgotten how to say anything except what the AARP advises.
Let’s not forget that AARP will profit, not just gross, over ONE BILLION DOLLARS, for JUST their participation in the marketing of Obamacare. They will gross another 2 Billion in sales over the next year in health insurance, which is their PRIMARY business.
It must be terribly difficult to live with yourself knowing you will be stealing your childrens and grandchildrens income when Oshitforbrainscare takes effect.
Spammer.
Only because the you don’t like the wonderful message. Theft is Theft, anyway you slice it :)

Sarcasm-Obamacare will be like any other government run agency-streamlined and very efficient similar to the USPS.
Why is it that Obama can’t get any help to run the country, ruin the country? He has IMO, wake the fuch up people, We need to get rid of these SC incumbents too-they have been in office way too long and have too much power of controlling the purse strings and either funneling business to themselves directly or indirectly.

All I can add is what has actually happened when I turned 66. I was forced from my excellent health insurance program ONTO Medicare. There was NO opting out. SO far, I have been able to avoid insurance altogether by paying my doctor privately, but that will cease, by law, in October. My insurance has skyrocketed in cost. A previous illness will NOT, repeat NOT be covered (are you listening “nitrat”?) and if I were not well off enough and did not personally know the right physicians, I’d be out of luck. SCREW YOU, DEMOCRATS, AND YOUR STUPID OBAMACARE!
What the fuck have Republicans done to fix the old system when this shit was being written up?
Damn! You can say “fuck” on FITZnews?

If memory serves, there was the fat white-haired Georgian in 1994, but the Dems and RINOs shut him down, and the TEA party has tried every year since 2010. Now, I’ll grant you that’s not a lot, but at least it’s not the slobbering charge toward the cliff the Democrats do every single day of their pitiable lives.
I welcome Obamacare like a 4th stage cancer sufferer welcomes death.

I must ask this, please excuse the negative nature of the question….. where in the fuck have you people, who think insurance is skyrocketing because of Obama, been in the last 30 years.

Leave it to King Travon and his monkeys to bankrupt the country, kill the economy, lose respect around the world and hand out freebie’s for votes. Good job on the food stamp program (no corruption there). This Travon makes Richard Nixon look like the Pope.
