Was SLED Hacked?

The S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) – the agency in charge of investigating the unresolved data breach at Gov. Nikki Haley’s Department of Revenue (SCDOR) – may have been hit by hackers, too.

Officially, SLED is telling court officials and law enforcement personnel it experienced a power outage earlier this month due to “incorrectly connected generators.”

Several sources at the agency are disputing that story, though, referring to the recent data disruption as a “hostile event.”

Whatever happened, court cases across South Carolina have been postponed while the agency seeks to address its technological issues. Among the more pressing problems? An issue with SLED’s “implied consent” database, which stores records of breathalyzer exams and videos from driving under the influence (DUI) arrests.

Hmmm … that sounds like a DUI attorney’s dream if you ask us.

Anyway … we’ll be sure to keep our readers up to speed as we get more info on this story.

Yeah, got a letter saying “power outage, probably back up in 10 to 14 days….” That’s one hell of a power outage. I suspect they’ve lost some data and will pay dearly to get it back.

SLED directors have covered Toal’s ass for years. Robert Stewart a Democratic Party wannabe if ever there was one, would do anything she said. One of the SLED agents investigating one of Toal’s mishaps a few years ago told me in no uncertain terms, he had already been told what the report would be. Just ride around, talk to a few people and make it work.

Who comes up with this shit? Incorrectly connected generators? I could probably do better than that, let’s see…. the dog ate my homework. There FIFY.

It sounds corny, but considering the storms we’ve been having, they may have had to switch to generator backup at some point this month. If the generators weren’t properly connected, then they aren’t going to be able to supply the energy needed until the power is restored.

Of course, that brings up questions like “who screwed up hooking up the generator” and “why didn’t they schedule a time to test the generator,” among others.

Well, if Harry Homeowner had hooked them up, I may have bought it. This is a multimillion dollar agency which surely contracted with professionals, who surely went through unit and integration testing before being released from the contract, no? How much did them jinny’s cost? Where’d they get them, Harbor Freight? Sounds like somebody needs an ass whoopin’.

LMAO!

I always joke that Walmart should be renamed “Made in China”, but Harbor Freight should be named “Made in China by prisoners”…lol…I still get shit there from time to time anyway…just nothing I plan on using more than once.

SLED has been led by hacks (political hacks Stewart, Lloyd, James, and Keel) for some time.
No surprise here. Someone of political importance must have been caught and the records needed cleansing.
Remember how long SLED had the infamous tapes of the Lexington Ring, without taking action? Same old same old from Keel!

Incorrectly connected generators? wut

I can try to give some of you a bit of insight at least into this. A UPS (uninterruptible power supply) can have a management card installed into them to connect them to the network for monitoring and control purposes. It is important to make sure that only certain groups within the network can reach those, and you really need to change the login credentials from something that isn’t default anyways. My question is, do the generators have something similar? Are they in a protected part of the network (i.e. only the network administrators have access to it, NOBODY else)? Do they have non-default usernames/passwords? Are they secured from being tampered with?

Alleging a hostile attack on these systems is definitely an interesting thought, but only extreme incompetence could open that up if you ask me. The people spreading the rumors need to divulge some evidence. Keep in mind that SLED is bound by the feds to have a certain level of network security already, as they access federal services. SCDoR’s troubles I’m not surprised with, but troubles at SLED I would be pretty shocked about.

Yes, very interested in a follow-up on this story. If a “hostile attack” did actually occur, then, damn.

I seem to remember SLED, under Keel and Stewart, initiating an investigation of the Private eye who caught Bob Peeler, in his musical beds game, with next door neighbor and campaign worker.

A political vendetta and payoff for Peeler’s paramour (close relative of Jean Toal) and Peeler’s brother Sen. Harvey Peeler
(SC Senate majority leader and Senate #2)?

I wonder how much this cost the South Carolina taxpayers?

A true abuse of process and abuse of power. SLED must kiss the rings (butts) that feeds it!

Politicly controlled police agencies trying to help a politician and his paramour in a high profile divorce.

They also initiated a Grand Jury investigation of the paramour’s husband.
