Obamacare “Rate Shock” In South Carolina?

Earlier this week The Spartanburg Herald-Journal published a story on county officials bracing for a $4.1 million increase in health care costs for their employees. Earlier this week The Spartanburg Herald-Journal published a story on county officials bracing for a $4.1 million increase in health care costs for their employees. The article didn’t mention U.S. President Barack Obama’s socialized medicine plan, but this looming insurance-related expenditure could be an early example of Obamacare “rate shock” in South Carolina.

What’s Obamacare “rate shock?”

It’s the grim revelation that this massive federal health care entitlement expansion isn’t going to lower anybody’s health care costs – like Obama promised it would – but will instead send those costs spiking. How high? Well, reports from California indicate increases of 116 percent for 40-year-olds (from $121 to $261) and as much as 123 percent for 24-year-olds (from $92 to $205). Meanwhile the Ohio Department of Insurance announced last week that average premiums in the Buckeye State could soar by as much as 88 percent – from $223 to $420.

Wow …

“Hope and change,” people … “hope and change.”

Anyway, we expect to see lots of headlines like the one coming out of the Spartanburg paper in the coming months as the Palmetto State – like California, Ohio and the rest of the country – confront the sobering reality of socialized medicine.

Like P.J. O’Rourke once said, “if you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it costs when it’s free.”

Sadly, we’re all about to find out …

If you get cancer, get it now before it’s too late. Insurance companies and politicians are crooks and liars. They can blame each other while their wallets get fatter.

Correct. The pre-existing condition part for children has kicked in. The one for adults doesn’t kick in until 2014. And the people with those conditions – millions of children and adults – will have significantly lower healthcare costs because of this law.
Also, look up the definition of socialism, FITS. Obamacare ain’t it, as much as you’d like to mislabel it, but keep making yourself look stupid.
Instead of cherry-picking a few short-term instances and presenting them as a nationwide result, you might want to read the reports about all the insurance companies that have filed to compete in the exchanges (which will become operational in October). Competition for insurance companies will equal lower prices in the long run. Basic economics, son, look it up.

Then raised taxes on the auto parts and sales industry to subsidize low income drivers. . . . Do you think your car insurance premiums would go up or down? Exactly!!! And what is even more outrageous is that your relative’s situation was precisely what medicaid was created to help with, so your relatives would not go bankrupt, paying forever for the treatment. This is what has now been erased by Obamacare, along with 80 billion dollars more Medicare items which have already been paid for by contributions from you and me.

So tell me how Obamacare erases medicaid. I’d love to hear it, because it doesn’t. The program will still exist – in fact, there’s that whole “medicaid expansion” thing that’s been in the news lately – perhaps you missed that. Oh! You must be talking about how some governors and state legislatures (including the ones in SC) are refusing the federal money to expand state medicaid systems. Yeah, that’s not Obamacare – that’s on those GOP govs and legislatures.

My 80-year-old mother-in-law’s pain doctor (she had back surgery in August of 2012), stated to her on her last appointment nearly a month ago, that he was retiring. He is ABSOLUTELY disgusted with ObamaCare. He informed her that her last day of seeing him would be in early August this year, and after that, he was retiring. He’s absolutely disgusted at the way the medical field is being manipulated by the current reigning government. That’s highly unfortunate. He’s the best doctor and former surgeon for the therapy that she needs, and we hate to lose him because of some jackasses who can’t see the forest for the trees. And it’s only the beginning.

Perhaps you should talk to all the docs who do support the law – the ones who want to help poor people in rural health clinics, for example, and the ones with the SC Hospital Association who fought and testified in front of the legislature to try to get the state to accept the medicaid expansion money. That may not be a scientific survey, but it’s a much better sampling than your mom’s one doctor. Learn some statistics.

Obamacare may not improve cost or quality on its own but that was not the primary purpose of it. It was designed to improve access to care and for those states that expand Medicaid, it will. As for the few doctors who don’t support it, remember the majority did. The doctors organization, the AMA supported Obamacare and lobbied for it.

Hell, the insurance and pharma companies helped craft the bill.
