The Left’s “Lautenberg Misfire”

As we noted in our brief and caustic Frank Lautenberg obituary post we were not remotely sad to see this uber liberal relic shuffle off this mortal coil. And while we would never wish death on anyone, should the Grim Reaper choose to cut a wider swath through the left-center bipartisanshit of “world’s greatest deliberative body” we wouldn’t shed a tear.

Sic Semper Tyrannis … Sic Semper Corrupta.

Anyway, as we predicted the far left is rushing to portray Lautenberg as some sort of principled ideological hero who made the country a better place with his sacrifice and unswerving progressive convictions (like partial birth abortion, for example). Meanwhile they are invoking his military service and decrying how fewer members of the U.S. Congress are “veterans.”

“Sending American men and women to war is the most serious decision a Congress can make,” wrote Chris Cillizza of The Washington Post. “Fewer and fewer people making those decision in the future will be able to speak from a position of experience and authority on the subject.”

What … Lindsey Graham doesn’t count?

Seriously, Cillizza – Lautenberg was in the Signal Corps. Also, the last time we checked Congress’ role in the making of war has been dramatically reduced (if not altogether eliminated) in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Presidents don’t need Congress to go to war any more … although they do need Congress to authorize additional deficit spending to pay the trillion dollar price tags.

Also, both Republicans and Democrats in Congress subscribe to an interventionist foreign policy that puts American lives and resources on the line based on the thinnest of pretenses with no clearly defined goals and zero exit strategy. Never heard of it? It’s called the “War on Terror.”

Obviously Sic Willie has ignored the responses to his drivel in regard to the Signal Corps in his earlier post. I presume the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor fits Sic Willie’s “thinnest of pretenses”.

To demonstrate what a phony Sic Willie is, the photo he uses comes from Wikipedia and the caption identifies the locale as a sandbagged hut in New Guinea in May 1943. Apparently Sic Willie thinks that is living the high life.

The last post: “Hey guys, I’m still an asshole, in case anyone forgot.”

This post: “No, really, I’m not kidding. Huge asshole.”

All you are doing is insisting on denigrating the guy’s service, which makes zero sense anyways since you didn’t give two shits about another Congressman’s service that actually did risk his life and cost him a limb. You didn’t even mention the family this guy left behind. No, that humanizes him. You reserve that for people whose ideology at least crosses with yours at some juncture, like Andrew Breitbart.

In the “marketplace of ideas” I guess someone has to peddle the manure.

I suppose if Frank Lautenberg had been some right-wing libertarian nut job in his political career, he would have been characterized as a poster boy for the American dream–he was the son Eastern European immigrants who through his own efforts went on to become a multimillionaire. He would have been described as a champion of capitalism–he founded Automated Data Systems, creating thousands of jobs. He would been praised as a promoter of clean air and safe highways–since he authored legislation to prohibit smoking on airplanes and lowered the drinking age. Being Jewish, he would have been complimented for his strong support of Israel.
And as a veteran of World War Two, he might have been described as emblematic of the sacrifices of the “Greatest Generation” that saved the world from tyranny.
But…since he also happened to be a liberal, progressive, Democrat who actually tried to make this nation a better place,
we get this hatchet job. Pitiful.

Putting your name behind something doesn’t mean you are suddenly not an asshole scumbag, it just means we know who the asshole scumbag is. Most of us have better things to do than to sit there and talk shit about a man’s military service just because of what leanings he has or what legislation he passed. I wouldn’t be surprised if Willie is trolling for clicks.

Just a note, I tried to look up his post about Inouye but it doesn’t come up when you search his name. Did that post get taken down? Hard to make fun of his service by saying “Oh, he was just in X group, so not a REAL veteran!”

Tossing around “thus always [meaning: death] to tyrants” in speaking of liberal politicians is psychopath talk. Frank Lautenburg was a liberal with a business background many times elected from New Jersey, and here his death is celebrated. Such intellectual smallness and lack of decency is of a piece with working for Mark Sanford and trying (famously unsuccessfully) to nail Statehouse chicks instead of developing real-world conservatism.

The Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban (“Gun Ban for Individuals Convicted of a Misdemeanor Crime of Domestic Violence”, Pub.L. 104–208,[1] 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(9)[2]) is an amendment to the Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 enacted by the 104th United States Congress in 1996, which bans access to firearms by people convicted of crimes of domestic violence. The act is often referred to as “the Lautenberg Amendment” after its sponsor, Senator Frank Lautenberg .

This is really what is behind the NRA and Gun industries objections to background checks supported by 70+% of Americans. The truth is a lot of people illegally purchase guns at gun shows and through private sales. The gun industry wants nothing to stop that. Any decent background check would require the purchaser of a firearm to state whether they or anyone living in their home his prohibited from owning a firearm. This would cut way back on gun sales.

Most military time is short, while the Damage these hideous monsters, like The Laut, do to our country is permanent.

Wasn’t Pennsylvania Congressman John Murtha a veteran (just like Hitler???)…Murtha may have been one of the most disgusting and vile creatures to EVER trod this planet..

Just because you wound up in the military does not sanctify you as untouchable.

I bet any TRUE American, veteran or not, Vomited every time Murtha opened his feces-filled, leftwing, America-Hating mouth…

And The Laut is not much difference as far as deserving any respect…
