A government official working for S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley’s scandal-ravaged Department of Revenue (SCDOR) has been using taxpayer time and resources to organize an oceanfront getaway for state and local bureaucrats.
Adriane Shealy, who is currently serving as treasurer of the S.C. Association of Assessing Officials (SCAAO), lists her state government phone, fax and email on materials promoting this bureaucratic vacation – one of many being enjoyed this spring by the governor’s cabinet agencies.
In her capacity with SCAAO, Shealy is responsible for organizing the group’s annual spring conference event at the Beach Cove Resort in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
FITS reached out to Jacky Hunter, the current head of the SCAAO to see what he thought about taxpayer fund being used to promote the conference.
“I don’t know anything to say except that’s the way it’s always been done,” Hunter told us, adding that “all of us are government employees.”
Exactly …
Because there’s nothing like “the way it’s always been done” in South Carolina, is there?
“These conferences are like ‘Animal House’ on steroids,” one attendee told FITS, adding it was a “huge waste of county funds for their offices to attend these glorified frat parties.”
And before you say that a bunch of tax assessors don’t know how to party, consider the case of the most recent former SCAAO president, Fairfield County assessor Wendell Irby. Six months ago, he was popped in Richland County, S.C. for soliciting a prostitute.
Anyway, we know Haley’s SCDOR is busy with important stuff (you know, as opposed to safeguarding the integrity of our confidential tax documents) but we would like to remind the governor and her cabinet that they work for the taxpayers – not bureaucratic associations which serve no purpose other than to provide government-subsidized getaways for misbehaving bureaucrats.
As we’ve said repeatedly in covering stories like this one, if government employees want a vacation they should pay for one like the rest of us … Lord knows we’re paying them enough money.

Issa Demands Hearings Into Why No One Listens to Him
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) — The House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa (R-California) today called for hearings to investigate why no one has paid any attention to him in the weeks of hearings he has called for thus far.
“There is mounting evidence that no one listens to me, not even one little bit,” he told reporters on Capitol Hill. “The goal of these hearings is to find out why.”
He said that he first became aware that people might not be listening to him when he read a recent poll indicating that Americans’ primary concerns are jobs and the economy.
“Anyone in his right mind would know that this nation’s No. 1 problem right now is Benghazi talking points,” he said.
The California congressman said that he also intended “to investigate the chain of events that have led to people changing the channel the moment they see my face.”
“There is a consensus out there that I am an odious, self-serving tool who uses congressional hearings to advance my own petty political agenda,” he said. “I think it’s important to know who created that impression.”
Finally, Mr. Issa said, he hoped that the new hearings would “determine, once and for all, to what extent my moral authority has been undermined by allegations that I have been involved in car theft and arson.”
“The question is, what do the American people know about me and when did they know it?” he said.
This would be relevant if there weren’t several other major scandals occurring simultaneously.

They are just spending tax payer money, no one gives a shit about that.
There’s always more from where that came from.
After the last time SCDoR made it in the news, they aren’t the only ones that could be taking our money anymore anyways.

Yeh but Fits, how about all these hotels and conference centers that primarily make their big bucks off these government sponsored conferences?
You want those “free enterprisers” to suffer?Bet these “conferences” are one government expenditure that lots of these otherwise”conservative” hotel owners favor!
Simple!

There are a number of “associations” that probably need to be looked into. One I would like scrutinized is the South Carolina Association of Counties. This organization helps the counties figure out ways to extract more tax dollars from their residents and craft crazy ordinances like how many trees to plant, how much mulch to put around those trees, “green space” and all manner of craziness. Reading the legislative agenda, they oppose state laws that hold the counties accountable for various things and recommend exempting the counties from their own ordinances that the residents have to obey.
