America is the fattest nation in the world, according to obesity data collected by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
A whopping … and we mean whopping … 33.8 percent of Americans are obese, while more than two-thirds of Americans are overweight. No other country comes close in either category – and the problem is getting worse.
“Overweight and obesity rates have increased steadily since the 1980s in both men and women,” the organization noted. “Three out of four people are projected by the OECD to be overweight or obese within 10 years.”
By contrast, three decades ago only 15 percent of the American population was considered obese.
America’s obesity rate is growing at a faster pace than the rest of the world – and is the percentage of its health care costs tied to obesity. Internationally, approximately 1-3 percent of health care costs are obesity related. In America, that figure is 10-15 percent.
Yikes … better buy stock in that company selling “Fatkinis.”
Here in South Carolina, one of the fattest states in America, a pair of leaders – S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) director Catherine Templeton and governor Nikki Haley – have declared a “War on Fat.”
We don’t support their efforts, although if government is going to subsidize food purchases for its poor (something we don’t think it should do) then we suppose it does have a right to regulate dietary choices.

Bigger is not Better
Bigger is not Better
Modern American diet, meaning industrialization of food production and lack of activity(TV, computers, etc) are obviously contributing factors.
It’s everything I can do to eat right and set aside time to exercise. Both take time & money, plus I have to balance it with time for my kids, business, wife, etc.
The flip side of fast & cheap food plus technology to make life easier is fat people unfortunately. Not everyone has the will power to make the right decisions & priorities.
That’s all fine and dandy, I just wish I didn’t have to pay for their health care.

“By contrast, three decades ago only 15 percent of the American population was considered obese.”
Three decades ago, you were defined as obese if your weight was in the top 15 percent of people your age in your area. Or 85th percentile, same difference.
Even though the NIH suggested using BMI to define obesity in 1985, nothing was done until this century. So while body weights may have been increasing for a long time (or may not have been), you really can’t draw any meaningful conclusions based on historical obesity rates of 15%.

Strangely: this FAT epidemic can be compared w/ FITS and his ability to exist….
People are told the time-bomb, enlarged heart is OK, no matter what reality is. Whatever the media tells the idiots they believe it. Our psyche is a lot like the Fat @$$#$ of America. FITS tells you it’s the GOP’s fault. And the stupid say “Yeah, FITS, tell me how good the democrats are.”…and FITS just “likes” the Ds so much, like a Big Fat greasy supreme, thick-crust pizza, and a half-gallon of ice cream for dessert. It won’t make you fat, FITS swears. No matter how lazy you are…
And they tell you the miserable Obama economy is great, and dumb@$#$ believe it. But that FIG FAT unemployment number and the deficit, are THE TRUTH…They also told you a minus-5% unemployment rate and Trillions less in deficit was worse because ‘W’ was the prez.
And fools fall for it..as they waddle their Fat A$$#$ to vote again and again.
There is a price for Stupidity, just like a heart attack or diabetes will catch the gulliable idiot who hangs on FITS’ every lie… and we’ll soon find out what that price is…thanks to Obama…
So two deranged morbidly obese inbred homosexual brothers went into a gay bar in New Orleans. The bartender asked the ugliest one, “Hey, mister, what’s your name?”
The nasty bastard replied, “My internet friends call me GrandTango”.
Just because I ream out you Dumb@$$#$ does not mean I’m gay…LMAO…
is ream thze same thing as rim?
You are my new hero.
Here’s another opportunity missed to submit one of my photos… damn!
The bartender asks the brother, “What is that nice cologne you’re wearing?” The brother replies, “Eau de Paree” — $20.00 per 1/2 ounce.”
Just then, GrandTango lets out a long, greasy fart.
The bartender yells, “My God, fella! What the hell is that stink!?” GT replies, “Butterbeans – $2.00 per bushel.”
I think that’s why the shuttle at Riverbanks now only takes you halfway into the zoo. You must now walk across Congaree bridge to get into zoo area. Great idea!!!!
Walking across the bridge is one of the best things about the zoo – and romantic….
I haven’t been to the Riverbanks Zoo in some time. Is the old parking lot not in use any more or was it taken over by all the drunken “tubers” and dipshit students from U. of South Carolina?
Seems like I did read something about the conflict between “tubers” and zoo attendees in “The State” a few years back.
Are you saying you now have to park ACROSS the river to go to the zoo???
The main parking lot off of Greystone is open, and no one is allowed access to the river from there anymore.
Hi Shifty,
The zoo has two entrances, one off of Greystone Columbia side and another off of Mohawk drive West Columbia. The west Columbia side will take you through Botanical gardens and to the shuttle. You are correct they fenced off the property adjacent to the river because of the drunken bikini wrastlers and drug/drinking hoodlums. You can still get to the river but parking now is on the frontage road only.

When the collapse of civilization finally comes, Americans will win because we can survive on our fat reserves.
That was said of the ancient Polynesians as well.
And it served them well, too, until the missionaries came.
I agree, I plan on killing & eating all the fat people.
Oops! never thought of that. Now we’re going to have to get all fat people a CWP so they can protect themselves.
saw a study about 6 weeks ago that concluded that overweight folks suffered less trauma from vehicle accidents because of the extra weight…
It’ll be covered under another article of Obamacare. Rest easy.

Mark had in his marital contract with Jenny that she cannot gain more than 10% of weight at the time of the wedding. If we all had contracts like that maybe we could have stayed slim like the Sanfords. Read that in the e-book.
How abusive! and some people have hinted at a problem with anorexia! This just demonstrates that with someone with his pathology, she would always be the proverbial hamster on a wheel always trying to make him happy, see sense, be empathetic, etc… and it would have no impact. Jenny must have wanted to be with him and been on board with his philosophy enough that she would have signed that and not felt like she was being manipulated. Chapur has NO IDEA.
So you did read that marital contract in it’s entirety. Was so shocked at what he considered that makes a marriage work and also indicated that he would look elsewhere for a woman not much younger than Jenny. Here everyone including me thought he was mature enough not to want a very young woman. Belen was created long before he met her.
That sounds irrational to me but if it’s true how much did she weigh?
Have no idea but the point I was making out is that he dictated she could not gain 10% more of her actual weight whichever it was. He did allow weight gain when she becomes pregnant.
By the way congrats go to Will and his wife.
