A Baptist preacher at one of the largest churches in America ridiculed former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford on Sunday – saying he was a “white man, GOP conservative” who could not be trusted because he “dealt treacherously with his wife.”

Mac Brunson, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida (and a Greenwood, S.C. native), ripped Sanford in a sermon televised on Jacksonville’s WTLV.

“Why do you think a man who deals treacherously with his wife won’t deal treacherously with you in business?” Brunson asked his flock. “See also Mark Sanford, former governor of my home state, who told his wife ‘I’m going to the mountains to hike.’ Who told the people who worked for him ‘I’m going to the mountains to hike.’ Who told the state of south Carolina who voted for him and put him in office ‘I’m going to the mountains to hike.'”

Obviously that’s not where Sanford was … (duh).

“Now the bright people of my home state have made him the GOP person for Congress,” Brunson said of Sanford. “If he dealt treacherously with his wife before and the state and the people who worked for him, do you think character has changed that much that he’s not going to deal treacherously at some point in the future?”

Take a look …

Ouch …

Sanford faces Democrat Elizabeth Colbert-Busch in a May 7 special election for South Carolina’s first congressional district – a seat Sanford held from 1995-2001 prior to his two terms as governor.

The race has attracted a national spotlight since last week – when Sanford’s ex-wife, Jenny Sanford, accused him of trespassing on her property without permission back in February. Sanford says he was on the property to watch the Super Bowl with his youngest son, 14-year-old Blake Sanford.

The Reverend should tell his flock that treacherous politicians and business people are the rule, not the exception. My dad was a preacher man (for a time in Greenwood no less) and I wish he’d taught me that. The righteous need to expect to encounter evil (not run away from it or put their heads under the cover) and be ready not to give in.

Politics or life in general,
Mark 18: 21-22 (Peter asked) “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” 22 Jesus *said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.”

Once again, forgiveness is free for the asking, trust must be earned. Sanford has done nothing to earn trust. Just because you forgive people who steal from you and lie to you, the way Sanford did, does not mean you offer them a new opportunity to steal and lie.

Interesting watching the Republican spin machine work this debacle of Sanford.! Entertaining to say the least. He violated the court order, pure and simple. The reason his crowd is spinning is a joke. Much like his favored Gov. Haley thinks big bubbles in the Savannah River are a good reason to sell the State out. He belongs on the scrapheap for politicians(leaders).

I still want to know what was going on at that party that offended the kid’s sensibilities so much he wanted to get away from it. That’s a totally unexplored part of the story here…what kind of inappropriate gathering did Sanford have his child at? We know the man has no judgement. Moral leaders have a Responsibility to be honest about situations like the Sanford Debacle. I than k the pastor for his candor.

Rev. Jeremiah Wright is a lair and a hateful Bigot, claiming the church for his power. We need REAL people of authority, not political whores like Rev. Wright, talking to our people about charlatans like Sanford.
Sanford IMMEDATELY claimed forgiveness—and then tried to Help himself to the Peoples’ office, to rip us off some more. Sanford needs to live in obscurity, enjoy daddy’s money, and reflect about his trespasses (no pun.) To rush back in, shows him to be a selfish egotistical thief, and we already have too many of those robbing us blind (see Obama.)…

Although we may forgive Sanford for his transgressions as a common man, we are still free to call out his deceit and unsuitability for public office while also decrying the actions of the other parties mentioned above. They are not mutually exclusive. It sounds as though you would stifle any censure of behavior as long as it fell within your relative ranking of moral and ethical sins.
Sanford and Chapur truly believe in freedom for themselves. That is however, a two way street.

If it were up to me Sanford would not have run. But the precedents for political office have been set lower than for most people serving time and it is not up me to judge. Although I personally get tired of hearing a politicians or his or her party reply’s to things they do wrong as someone else did them. I said what I said to make a point only! We are left in a position of choosing the lesser of two evils and we are digging the hole deep!

Wasn’t it Clinton who paved the way to lie when he introduced “Dont’ Ask Don’t Tell” and his ordeal with his GF in the Oval office??? Sanford disrespected his position as Governor and the good people of SC but the choice is up to you……vote wise!!!!
