The notoriously corrupt S.C. House Ethics Committee – which as we’ve pointed out on numerous occasions ought to be abolished – is holding a meeting this week.
What’s on its agenda? Glad you asked …
Yeah … how’s that for transparency in government?
This is sad but not surprising. Remember, this is the committee which gained infamy last year with its shameful whitewash of the ethics violations committed by S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley – a former House member.
Then there’s S.C. Rep. Brian White (RINO-Anderson), chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means committee, who was busted last year using his campaign account for personal expenditures yet is still getting a pass on it.
The latest shadiness? The multiple scandals surrounding S.C. Speaker of the House Bobby Harrell (RINO-Charleston) – who is set to become the third high-profile “Republican” to break the law and get away with it.
How do we know Harrell will skate? Well, in the event a complaint against him is even filed, he’s already bought off his prospective jurors … giving sitting ethics committee members more than $13,000 from his political action committee.
This is not how government is supposed to work. If self-serving politicians break the rules they ought to suffer the consequences. Of course as long as we continue to permit them the exclusive right to police themselves – we shouldn’t expect anything different than the rampant corruption our state continues to witness.

This state is so effed, anyone who was duped into voting for these sociopaths, you can only blame yourself.
They must have wanted to keep it private. With the FOI act, it seems that we the taxpayers would be privy to these proceedings.

THe Freedom of Information Act requires the presiding officer of a body announce the specific purpose of an “executive session” before they can go behind closed doors. Somebody needs to go and insist on specificity.
