Tim Scott’s Team Is Measuring The Drapes

… MEANWHILE HIS CHIEF OF STAFF IS JUMPING INTO THE RACE FOR HIS HOUSE SEAT

U.S. Rep. Tim Scott is “99 percent” sure that S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley is going to appoint him as the interim replacement for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Jim DeMint, sources close to the first-term Congressman tell FITS.

“It’s his,” our source said, dispelling late speculation that former S.C. First Lady Jenny Sanford had emerged as Haley’s favorite for the post.

Sources close to two other members of Haley’s “short list” concurred that Scott had an “air of inevitability” about him over the last 48 hours.

Tim Scott: Senate seat in the bag?

“Either he knows something we don’t or he’s the most presumptuous man I’ve ever met,” one said.

Scott is so confident the Senate seat is his that he is already lining up staff positions – and consultants for his 2014 reelection bid.  He has also reportedly given his current chief of staff, Joe McKeown, the go-ahead to seek the first congressional district seat he would (will?) be vacating if (when?) he gets the nod from Haley.

In fact one of our sources says Scott has already pledged his endorsement to McKeown.

Scott was the early favorite for DeMint’s seat – and has campaigned aggressively over the last week to secure it.  All this despite the fact that the Heritage Foundation – the conservative think tank DeMint is leaving the Senate to run – ranked Scott last among the GOP House delegation for his votes on “conservative policy positions.”

U.S. Reps. Jeff Duncan, Mick Mulvaney and Trey Gowdy all rated higher on the Heritage scorecards than Scott – but only Gowdy was included on Haley’s short list, along with Scott, Sanford, former S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster and Catherine Templeton, Haley’s friend and director of the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC).

Our D.C. sources say that McKeown has been a driving force behind Scott’s transformation from Tea Party maverick to establishment Republican – pushing him in the direction of the GOP leadership.

McKeown would enter a crowded race for Scott’s seat – should it become open – as S.C. Senator Larry Grooms (R-Berkeley) and State Reps. Chip Limehouse (RINO-Charleston) and Jimmy Merrill (RINO-Daniel Island) have already been making calls to rally support behind their prospective candidacies.

If Scott does wind up getting the nod, it would mean that Haley bowed to the wishes of the national GOP establishment – which has been urging her to support Scott in an effort to combat its “diversity problem.” It would also mean she was willing to forgive Scott for aligning with her longtime enemy – S.C. Speaker of the House Bobby Harrell – during their tenure in the S.C. General Assembly.

Yep, Scott’s petition campaign has really caught on with the voters.

As of 5 minutes ago 521 people had signed his petition.

The Krispy Kreme shop over on Knox Abbott serves that many fucking people in one hour when the Get‘Em While They’re Hot Sign is on.

By giving up his recently aquired Ways and Means Committee seat, Tim Scott is proven to be a typical political hack who cares little about his state. SC has not had a Ways and Means Committee member since Carroll Campbell nearly 30 yrs ago and his not likely to have another one anytime soon if Scott jumps to the Senate as expected. Once again South Carolina loses clout and muscle.

We really can do better.

Next time you want to do this shit Folks, give me a call, my number is on your email.

(Columbia) September 28, 2005 – Former gubernatorial spokesman Will Folks has pleaded guilty to criminal domestic violence in a Columbia court.

The 31-year-old Folks was arrested in July and accused of shoving his fiancee, Ashley Smith, into furniture during a heated argument. A week after Folks was arrested, he denied accusations that he shoved her.

Folks received a 30-day suspended sentence, meaning he will avoid jail time as long as he stays out of trouble for the next six months. He also was ordered to attend anger management classes and not to contact his ex-fiance Ashley Smith.

It’s the safe choice…and politcal suicide if Haley picks any of the other five, at this point.

Also: the process also reveals that Haley may be using the peoples’ office to crusade for more women in politics (but not Conservative women)…

Wish we could just get a GOVERNOR…not a self-serving opportunist…it’s been years…

PS: US Rep. Allen West joined the Racist Black Caucus..and he lost his seat…Scott did NOT join…and will likely be a US Sen…

Conservatives REALLY need to pay close attention to that…

I’m not much concerned whether Rep. Scott gets appointed. I simply want to point out that FITS’ comment regarding Scott’s ranking by Heritage, while true, is intentionally misleading. He has an 88% score – hardly the stuff of a wild eyed liberal.

Appointing another far-right extremist Republican to further cement South Carolina as no-compromise people will ultimately undermine both. Anything taken to excess is unhealthy — politics, alcohol, food, golf, fishing, gardening, stamp collecting, whatever. With the constantly-increasing portion of the people being minorities, in 20 years they will be the majority and the Republican party will have gone the way of the Whig party. Quaint in retrospect.

Tim Scott has known he would be Senator since the day before the public announcement by Demint. That was the day he pledged his loyalty, and campaign cash, to Hlaley’s political consultant Jon Learner.
