“TEA PARTY” GOVERNOR TO ENDORSE LONGTIME FISCAL LIBERAL IN STATE SENATE RACE
S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley will endorse fiscal liberal (and former Democrat) Larry Martin in a competitive State Senate race in the Palmetto Upstate, multiple sources have confirmed to FITS.
Martin, a thirty-year incumbent, is currently in the fight of his life against former S.C. Rep. Rex Rice – a petition candidate. In fact a barrage of television ads (courtesy of our founding editor) have helped expose Martin as a hypocrite on fiscal issues – putting his campaign in panic mode.
Hence “Haley to the rescue.”
During her 2010 campaign, Haley vowed that she “wouldn’t stop” until South Carolina had a “more conservative House” and a “more conservative Senate.” How does an endorsement of Martin mesh with that promise? Not well …
Martin has fared abysmally on numerous report cards – including one released last week by the Palmetto Liberty PAC. He also received an “F” on an Upstate Tea Party scorecard. In 2011 the S.C. Club for Growth – a group which supports Haley – gave Martin an “F-minus” on its scorecard.
What, exactly, is the governor doing endorsing him?

Didn’t Rex Rice vote to increase the cigarette tax? That’s reason enough to vote for him over a 30 year career politician. At least he has an open mind.
I’ve watched him state the following many times while he had the floor in the Senate: “We need to go ahead and pass this bill because, frankly, this is what the governor wants.” The rest of the Senate doesn’t always share his enthusiasm.
I have a feeling that there’s more to it than just being a champion for the governor on the Senate floor. Surely he’s not bucking for an endorsement from a governor that’s not very well liked.

I really enjoy reading Fitsnews but your views as to who are good Senators and who are not continually puzzle me. Larry Martin is a conservative and a friiend to South Carolina businesses.. Whenever issues of workers’ compensation reform or tort reform have come up, Larry Martin has led the way.
Voting for or against one issue does not make you a conservative. Voting consistently conservative makes you a conservative. Lower taxes. Zero business regulations. Abandon ALL laws created over the last 60 years. The only laws that should be on the books are Murder, Assault and Theft. Change the assault laws to put away the instigator only.
Keep your big honking nose out of everyones business. That’s a conservative. The only thing we have at the state and federal level, excluding a few because a few errors does not take away your conservative monicker, are libtard commie Republicrats and Demlicans. Two sides of the same coin.

I’ve heard people from the state chamber say they want Martin to win because if he loses either Jakie Knotts or Luke Rankin will become chairman of the Judiciary Committee. My question is would Rankin or Knotts really be any worse than Martin? It seems to me they’re all on about the same fiscally liberal level.

One does have to wonder(if intellectually honest) where to draw the line between arguing for “limited gov’t”(and why) versus no gov’t.

I don’t think there is an honest soul in the government. I can’t think of any agency I wouldn’t shut down. I do believe that God got it right. (1Samuel8 with particular attention to vs. 8-10).
I am a conservative. Based on my standards, I don’t know many that are, but I am sure… I could not exist unless I believe that there are many others that i don’t know.

Larry Martin should have been voted outta there a long time ago. As far as somebody having a bed head, Larry Martin likely had one of those back in the days when he still had hair on the Boss Hogg looking chrome dome from butt-kissing Dick Riley and Carroll Campbell to keep tabs on what industries they were trying to recruit. That’s what Alice manufacturing Company was paying him to do, and from the miserable lack of industries that have come into Pickens County, or anywhere close to their mills, Alice has gotten their money’s worth. The voters should have figures out a long time ago that every paycheck the Larry Martin has ever collected from Alice has been nothing but a bribe. and that his switching from a DINO to a RINO amounted to nothing but crawling out of one bed and into another. Maybe this time the voters will actually wise up and not put Larry Martin’s crap on another geveration.
Now let’s get this straight Hugh, who gave who a BJ? I think when it comes to that, it’s probably something Larry Martin might be good at himself, and if Carroll Campbell were still around, he’d probably know that personally. After all, that was what he was getting paid to do.
