As it was explained to me during my interview with Cold-Case April 1, this abduction took place in both parts of Columbia and Richland County. Investigator Gillem of the Columbia Police Department first interviewed me about the Dinwiddie abduction on November 14, 2024. However, he has since retired, so Richland County Cold Case now has the lead. When and if the investigators are able to get agreements from authorities 1) to grant James Campbell clemency; and 2) that Richland County won’t prosecute him(both are his expressed terms for telling where Dail Dinwiddie is buried), then hopefully he will reveal where he understands her remains to be in that field, and that his information will result in finding Dail Dinwiddie.
The elaborate theories always fall short to me on this case. When you look at her physical description (cute, preppy, tiny white girl), the path that she should have had to walk to get home, and the time of night, she was in serious danger every step she took on the path home except for maybe the last 100 yards to her front door. The number of thugs with violent rap sheets roaming and cruising the streets drunk and high within a hundred yards left and right of that path at that time of night would be in the high dozens. I think she was a target of opportunity, who had unspeakable things done to her, and she was disposed of when they were done with her. I think her remains are either buried in a backyard somewhere between Five Points and Forest Hills, or they were taken far out to the swamps and will never be found. But that doesn’t mean the case can’t be solved.
and afterthought: satellite and drone deployed ground penetrating radar-type tech has advanced phenomenally in the last 10 years – we’re talking temples and buildings found under Brazilian rainforest type stuff. I wonder if anyone has ever done a sweep of the yards in the area I was talking about.
They use Lidar to uncover ancient cities in the rainforest. That looks through vegetation to show the outlines of buildings but would be of no use trying to find a body. Unless someone confesses or they happen to accidentally dig up her remains I don’t think this one will be solved.
I am the “Paul Seay of Irmo, S. C.” mentioned in the story. It’s also worth noting that Mr. Hutto, 4 months prior to the disappearance of Dail Dinwiddie, was arrested and charged for the kidnapping and murder of 25 year old Lisa Rucker of Pelion, S. C.; which is a suburb of Columbia. Mr. Hutto would have had plenty of time to abduct Ms. Dinwiddie in the early morning hours of September 24, 1992, drive 2 &1/2 hours to Rowan County, dispose of Dail Dinwiddie, and then return to Columbia approximately 30 hours prior to the murder of Nadine Poole in Pelion, S. C. Pelion is about a 25 minute drive from Columbia. Nadine Poole was murdered the AFTERNOON of September 25, 1992 according to authorities.
I was told she is alive and escaped or was let go in NC. She had problems with her father and did not wish to return home; started a new life and family in NC .
Just an afterthought to the reply I just posted above, it was my efforts that got the previous moratorium in North Carolina. Working with Mr. Campbell’s appeal attorneys in 2006, I informed them of the North Carolina law that prohibited any authority other than the N. C. legislature from making changes to the carrying out of the Death Penalty in North Carolina. This was important because the North Carolina Medical Board had stated that they would revoke the license of any physician in North Carolina who took part in the execution process. Well, the North Carolina Department of Corrections stated that they would use EMS personnel instead to monitor the inmates vital signs during executions. As I stated, I found a law that prohibited them from doing that, and I advised Mr. Campbell’s attorneys to seek an injunction as a result prohibiting any more executions from taking place. Mr. Campbell was 17 days away from being executed when we got his and all other condemned inmates executions halted in North Carolina.
PELION, SC is a superb of Columbia, SC according to Mr. Seay. Pelion is in a fairly rural part of Lexington County, where there is a lot of family farms. Columbia is in Richland County, about 20 plus miles from Pelion. There is no direct or quick route connecting these. I would say 45-60 minute drive. Mr. Seay has a great crime story. It would be more interesting to know of his profession.

First of all, it’s suburb, not “superb”. YOUR profession obviously isn’t English teacher. Why do you keep asking about my profession, as you did on NEXTDOOR? Okay, let’s say it’s a “…45-60 minute drive” from Columbia to Pelion. So what? The fact remains that Terry Lee Hutto would have still had roughly 30 hours upon returning to Swansea before making the short drive to Pelion to murder Nadine Poole. And I don’t have a great crime story. I have no story at all as to what happened to Dail Dinwiddie. What I have relayed to authorities twice now is what James Adolph Campbell told me when I and his ex-wife Dawn Atkins, the actual target of the abduction, visited with him on June 23, 2006. The authorities in this case are doing everything they can to ensure that Dail Dinwiddie is not found. Leon Lott will not allow cold case detectives to interview either James Adolph Campbell or Terry Lee Hutto despite the fact that they are both still alive and incarcerated in North Carolina and South Carolina, respectively. The 5th Circuit Solicitor’s Office will NOT agree to grant Mr. Campbell immunity in exchange for him leading authorities to exactly where he understands Dail Dinwiddie to be buried. Likewise, the authorities in North Carolina will NOT agree to grant Mr. Campbell clemency in exchange for him helping law-enforcement find Dail Dinwiddie.

Being that she lived in and disappeared in Columbia, how did RCSD wind up as the “lead” agency in this investigation?
It was that creepy attorney.
Yeah, but he lived inside of Columbia, too? I thought Columbia had that weird old investigator working it, but he died. What was his name? Chubby?
