Thank you for reminding all of us about our civic responsibilities. As you stated, voters need to be informed about the intentions of those they vote for! An uninformed voting public results in the shenanigans of these past seven decades of too many “in it for the power/money” legislators that have kept SC ranked as one of the worst states in our 50 state union. We must ensure we educate our children to always vote for persons with integrity. That is not easy to discern when you are not informed concerning the candidates history. However, once a candidate is elected for a term, do not vote for that person again if you were not pleased with their actions. There is an old saying, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” The basics of how government works must be taught at home by informed parents. It is too important to allow our educational institutions to impose their personal political preferences on our students!
I have known Diane for a number of years. She has spelled out a very serious and important issuse in this well written heart-felt article.
America was founded to be a great nation, but as stated in this article it is the duty and responsibility of each of us to do our part to keep our nation healthy and strong. We do this by being actively involved in government at every level. Part of our involvement is making sure that we pass along American values to our posterity. Future generations need to be enlightend about the importance of protecting our American Dream, and how important it is to be involved with civic duty and staying in touch with those who represent us in public service.
The author listed some ways that everyone can get involved to make sure that we continue to have a great nation. Let’s use this reminder to make up for lost time and apathy. Each of us playing a small part will form a coalition that ensures that we will have a bright future. Get involved and connect.
Thank you Diane for your dedication and words of wisdom.
For the last time, there is no meritocracy. Compare a lazy trust fund baby to someone who does roofing for a living and come back and tell me meritocracy isn’t a cruel joke told to millions of hard working Americans.

Would love to meet you. I have the same feelings about our apathy. We have had it so good that we took the “live and let live approach.”
We now and have been seeing the destruction of our Republic.
Yes, we are guilty as charged. Selfish, apathetic, ignorant and lazy. Still the blame did not originate with us. The blame lies (pun intended) with our elected officials, at all levels. It lies with the government and those that work for it(instead of for the people). We have had blind faith in those people and institutions. We trusted and didn’t verify. It should always be verify, then trust. Shame on us for gullible believing the line of bull they Fed us. Now, the Republic is on the verge of total collapse– morally, ethically, financially. We are well past the time when we can reverse the destruction with a little time and effort. Even running for office produces no or little results. The state of the union calls for a massive battle to regain control. Participate in the fight or die watching the fall of this once great republic.

What a fantastic article about addressing apathy with little efforts at the local and neighborhood levels. All great efforts start with a first step!
