Former U.S. president Donald Trump – who already had a massive firewall in place in South Carolina (in the increasingly unlikely event he needed it) – received arguably the most pivotal Palmetto State endorsement of them all on Friday.
Leading former S.C. governor Nikki Haley by anywhere between 25-30 percent in the polls in her home state, Trump landed the backing of U.S. senator Tim Scott – the state’s junior senator as well as both his and Haley’s erstwhile presidential rival.
Scott will announce the endorsement at a Trump rally in New Hampshire on Friday evening.
News of Scott’s decision was first reported by Jonathan Swan and Shane Goldmacher of The New York Times.
Trump’s securing of Scott’s endorsement is significant on multiple levels. Nationally, it represents yet another one of Trump and Haley’s former rivals lending their imprimatur to Trump. Just last week, Ohio entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy announced his endorsement of Trump after finishing fourth in the Iowa caucuses.

Scott’s endorsement is also tremendously significant as it relates to next month’s “First in the South” presidential primary. He joins a lengthy list of statewide elected officials backing Trump including governor Henry McMaster, U.S. senator Lindsey Graham, attorney general Alan Wilson, state treasurer Curtis Loftis, lieutenant governor Pamela Evette and secretary of state Mark Hammond.
The bill is even bitterer for Haley to swallow considering she appointed Scott to the U.S. Senate following the resignation of Jim DeMint in January 2013.
Haley and Scott were also on the same team in 2016 as part of the #NeverTrump movement that sought to elevate U.S. senator Marco Rubio of Florida to the GOP nomination.

OMG, what a waste this guy is. Either scared shitless by Trump or hoping against hope for a VP slot. Ok, probably both. Just another spineless Republican.
By the way, what has happened to the misterous fiancée since he dropped out of the race?
Being the beard of South Carolina’s other sexually ambiguous US Senator can be stressful work. She is probably on sabbatical for now.
It’s great what this blog has done to cripple the GQP’s chances of winning the White House.
Dark Brandon thanks you.
If ever there was an example of the “Peter Principle,” it would be Tim Scott.
Great analogy!
That was might white of you, Tim!
How could someone who professes his Christianity and Bible knowledge at every opportunity ever support someone whose life flies in the face of most biblical principles and commandments? He’s so pathetically looking for crumbs from his true master’s table.
I’ve basically heard Christians remark on how God supported lots of sinners in the Bible. When you think about it a lot of the kings of the Bible had tons of wives and concubines, and one even sent a guy off to die just to steal his wife because apparently that wasn’t enough for him. (He felt bad afterwards, so it’s OK!)
It’s almost as if religion is specifically meant to provide complete justification to hierarchies after the fact and provide cover for any and all transgressions even well into the future.
When you remove the veil of mysticism and fanboyism the realization sets in that DJT is just an unremarkable scam artist elevated to fame and notoriety solely because he was born into wealth, that the only successful venture he’s ever had is real estate because any moron can lie about property values (but most morons can avoid getting in trouble with the gubmint at least), and that he really doesn’t care about anything other than himself, his money, and his image.
It would be really, really embarrassing to realize that only after you’ve voted for him twice.
Good luck with all that, Tim Scott. Trump will destroy your career just like he has done to all who have worked for him. How has all that worked out for Mike Pence? Shame on you, Tim Scott. Selling your soul to the devil will only get you a ticket to straight to Hell. Your political future will be over sooner than you know it.
They are all scared of him. That’s the only conclusion that can be drawn. They don’t like him, but they can’t step out of line. They’ll back him, endorse him, “support” him, but I bet you anything most of the elected Republicans will quietly cast their vote for Biden and pray like hell he wins.
It’s really sad.
The wet finger in the wind hath spoken.
Yassuh, Massa Trump! I’s bringin’ dem Diet Cokes as fast as my feets know how!
