Lawyer-legislators are either lawyers or legislators … the abuse being perpetrated by attorneys using their ability to postpone trials because of legislator status must cease NOW. This is reprehensible. What the hell is wrong with South Carolina in thinking this is just fine and dandy? The entire system is so f–ked up even Alan Wilson is far short of “reform”.

Asking the SC legislature to fix this properly is akin to asking Congress to vote term limits on themselves. Good luck. The current insane process is also the reason that Dick Harpootlian may be able to manipulate the judicial system in favor of his client Alex Murdaugh. Judge Newman was able to boldly administer justice #1 Because he is a truly good person and impartial Judge, #2 Because he was on his way out & not beholden to any legislators. After hearing Mr. Pascoe present his case, it would seem that even the SC Supreme Court is not without this influence either. This system is jacked up & it won’t be easy to unring that bell.

A wise man once told me it has to look right to be right. Well none of this is even close to looking right….

I am surprised to not see any coverage of the public hearing involving the Honorable Bentley Douglas Price which took place on the same day as the judicial reform hearing. This seems relevant given the alleged link between his election to the bench being tied to a potentially corrupt screening system. The judicial candidate hearings are only available to the public who attend in person most of whom can not take time off from work in the middle of the day so media coverage is critical. It is my understanding Judge Price’s hearing took more than the standard 45 minutes. How did he respond to questions relating to his statement in his 2012 public judicial hearing in which he denied the accusation of “partying” to much but possibly being at the residence of an attorney who died of a recreational drug overdose last year? Any questions or comments about his fast case disposal rate but high reversal rate on Appeal? How did Judge Price respond to questions relating to having a writ of mandamus issued by the SC Supreme Court which they ordered him to make a ruling in a case and why does he want another term on the bench when he has refused to do the job requiring the highest state court to order him to do his job? These and many other questions can be answered with come media coverage, assuming Fitsnews attended Judge Price’s hearing. Many people have declared Judge Price must be removed from the bench and his public hearing was the opportunity to address these calls so how and what did he say to defend himself?
