Here is something not mentioned in this week’s review: the Honorable Judge Bentley Douglas Price while on the way up to Columbia in a vehicle with SC issued “Judge” tags in order to plead for a qualified designation before the SC Bar so he could run for “reelection” on Thursday was also moving away from the fact he let Ernest Robert Burbage, III out of jail by sentencing him to time served on a weapons violation charge. Who is this Mr. Burbage, a man with a lengthy criminal history and likely suffering from mental health issues. On Thursday, Johns Island was on lock down due to a 30 hour manhunt in which Mr. Burbage who was indiscriminately shooting at people including a police officer who was shot in the head along with a passenger in a vehicle and killed a police dog. School was cancelled and a stand off ended with Mr. Burbage being permanently stopped. This was truly a tragic situation. Hopefully, the SC Bar will have the courage to do the right thing which is to designate Judge Bentley Douglas Price as unqualified to run for “re-election” because two wrongs never make a situation right.

Mary Contrary, thanks for the kind words of agreement. The SC Bar qualification recommendations for Judge Bentley Douglas Price and his only challenger are to be submitted to the Judicial Merit Selection Commission by this Friday, October 6th. If the challenger is deemed not qualified and Judge Price is deemed qualified (I can not fathom how they could deem him qualified even if only a fraction of the news stories are true) then he will get six more years on the bench due to his political connections. I do not think the Judicial Merit Selection Commission is above playing politics but “as I live I hope” the SC Bar is better than that. People like Alex Murdaugh are either made or enabled by the likes of folks like Judge Price who has proven to be a junior varsity version of the likes of Judge Carmen Mullin.

I think the exact quote is “As I breathe I hope”

I should stick to Latin to have avoided botching the quote going forward “Dum Spiro Spero”.
