3 Dead, 2 Injured After Truck Crashes Into Car, Drives Off Hilton Head Bridge

Breaking…

Three people are dead and two are injured after a two-vehicle accident on the bridge between Bluffton, South Carolina and Pinckney Island near Hilton Head Island early Saturday, according to officials.

Beaufort County Coroner David Ott told FITSNews that the following people died in the accident Saturday morning:

  • Tyler Carroll, 23, of Ridgeland, South Carolina,
  • Jonathan Green, 27, of Hardeeville, South Carolina,
  • Jordan Johnson, 21, of Ridgeland, South Carolina.

A Chevy truck collided with a Ford Fusion in the westbound lanes of the U.S. 278 bridge around 2 a.m. Saturday, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. The driver of the truck then lost control and went off the bridge into the water.

According to Ott, Green was driving the car with Johnson as a passenger and Carroll was driving the pickup truck.

Two others were injured in the crash and taken to Savannah Memorial Hospital, according to officials.

The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Multiple sources told FITSNews that the truck was going in the wrong direction on the U.S. 278 westbound bridge when it collided with the car head-on. The truck then went off the bridge and was recovered Saturday morning.

All three people were found dead on scene, according to officials.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded with traffic control and a dive team. Several other agencies including the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Bluffton Fire Department responded to the fatal crash.

The scene was cleared around 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

Jonathan Green was a student at the University of South Carolina – Beaufort.

Tyler Carroll worked as a diesel mechanic at Cleland Site Prep.

Jordan Johnson was a student at Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The day before she died, she posted on Facebook “I’m about to walk in to one of the best chapters of my life & I’m so ready for it.”
