Letter: Drunk Charleston, South Carolina

“Every time we went to visit I couldn’t wait to leave.”

RE: CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA – HOW TO LOSE A SELLOUT PERFORMER IN TWO HOURS

Hello Dear Editor,

I’m from Charleston, South Carolina and my husband lived there for over twenty years. I grew up going to a number of beaches, going out on the boat every weekend, eating oysters and shrimp n’ grits at brunch with bloody Mary’s and mimosas, dressing to the nines whenever you went out, listening to music, and living a relaxed life.

My husband and I have both chosen not to live there because it has gone to hell in a hand basket. Please keep in mind my husband, many friends and family, and myself are no prudes. Many of us have or still do work in food and beverage and love to party.

The comedian Heather McMahan’s comments seem completely correct and this article is very accurate. Please do keep in mind most of these people acting with no respect for themselves or others are NOT from Charleston. Every time we went to visit I couldn’t wait to leave.

It’s terribly sad but, very … true!

Hopefully some people in Charleston take a long hard look in the mirror and have some respect for themselves and a city that truly was great once.

Signed,

A True Southern Woman from Charleston, SC
