A former deputy with the Spartanburg County, South Carolina sheriff’s office who was charged last week with three counts of criminal domestic violence is now facing a fourth count.
Donald Douglas Ross, Jr., 37, of Greenville, S.C. was arrested by agents of the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) on July 22, 2019 and charged with one count of second degree criminal domestic violence.
According to the probable cause affidavit accompanying the warrant for his arrest, on July 3, 2016 Ross allegedly “physically assaulted the victim (his wife), causing physical harm and injury to her, by picking her up and forcefully slamming her body to the floor rendering her unable to breathe momentarily.”
“The minor child of the defendant and victim was present when this occurred,” the affidavit continued.
The 2016 incident occurred in Georgetown County, according to the warrant.

Ross was previously charged in connection with three alleged criminal domestic violence incidents that occurred in Greenville, S.C. in 2011, 2017 and 2018.
Ross has landed in hot water in connection with domestic violence allegations before. As we noted in our coverage last week, Ross resigned as an officer of the Greenville, S.C. police department in 2010 following an incident in which he allegedly beat and waterboarded his then-girlfriend.
Also, Ross’ father – Donald Douglas Ross, Sr. – lost his job with SLED in 2006 after he was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature following a domestic incident in Lexington County, S.C.
SLED’s investigation into Ross, Jr. was requested by the Spartanburg sheriff’s office – which has had a rash of these cases lately (click here, here and here).
His prosecution will be handled by the office of S.C. attorney general Alan Wilson.
As with anyone accused of committing any crime, Ross is considered innocent until proven guilty by our criminal justice system – or until such a time as he may wish to enter a plea in connection with any of the charges filed against him.
