The South Carolina statewide grand jury has indicted three individuals in connection with an alleged conspiracy to traffic heroin and fentanyl in the Palmetto State.
According to a news release from the office of S.C. attorney general Alan Wilson, the three defendants in this case allegedly “conspired to deal counterfeit ‘Roxies’ consisting of a mixture containing heroin and other substances, including in some instances fentanyl.”
Indicted on Thursday in connection with the alleged conspiracy were 31-year-old Benjamin Jamal Johnson of Batesburg, S.C., 21-year-old Shiv Balvant Tailor of Lexington, S.C. and 20-year-old Savannah Lynn Stroud of Lexington, S.C.
The case was investigated my multiple law enforcement agencies including the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the Lexington County sheriff’s department, the Saluda County sheriff’s department, the Laurens County sheriff’s department and the city of Columbia, S.C. police department.
As with anyone accused of committing any crime, Johnson, Tailor and Stroud are considered innocent until proven guilty by our criminal justice system – or until such time as any of them may wish to enter a plea in connection with any of the charges filed against them.
Their cases will be prosecuted by the office of the attorney general – specifically grand jury section chief Creighton Waters and senior assistant attorney general Joshua Underwood. All three defendants are scheduled to appear at a bond hearing at 12:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday afternoon at the Richland County court house in downtown Columbia, S.C.
S.C. circuit court judge DeAndrea Benjamin is scheduled to preside over that hearing. At that time, additional details related to the charges filed against the three defendants are expected to be revealed.
