A suspect was shot and killed by a deputy of the Spartanburg County sheriff’s office early Wednesday morning.
According to our law enforcement sources, a homeowner residing at 831 Holly Springs Church Road near the town of Inman, S.C. called Spartanburg deputies at around 5:15 a.m. EDT to report that someone was stealing his truck.
The homeowner told responding deputies the suspect was armed and had pointed a gun in his face. After handing over his car keys, the homeowner called 9-1-1.
After the first deputy arrived on the scene, a “confrontation” ensued during which the suspect “made a quick movement.”
The deputy fired, fatally shooting the suspect.
Both the deputy and the suspect are white males, we are told. The deputy, whose name has not been released, was uninjured during the confrontation. Meanwhile the homeowner and his wife – who was also in the residence at the time of the shooting – were uninjured.
[su_dominion_video_scb]As a matter of protocol in the vast majority of officer-involved shootings in the Palmetto State, the investigation into this incident will be led by the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
According to SLED spokesman Thom Berry, his agency received the call to assist in this case at around 6:08 a.m. EDT.
The shooting in Spartanburg is the 22nd officer-involved shooting in the Palmetto State so far this year, a record pace. The previous record of 49 officer-involved shootings was recorded two years ago.
