A now-former officer at the Bamberg County, South Carolina detention center has been charged criminally in the aftermath of an incident that allegedly took place at this facility two months ago.
Isaac Jerome Jackson, 56, was arrested by agents of the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and charged with one count of misconduct in office after he allegedly pushed an inmate’s head “into a window and then into a cell door.”
This alleged assault caused the inmate “to be transported to a nearby medical facility to be treated for a laceration of the head,” according to a probable cause affidavit accompanying a warrant for his arrest.
The inmate was “clearly restrained in handcuffs at the time of the injuries,” the affidavit continued.
SLED was called in to investigate the matter at the request of the Bamberg County detention center, which is where Jackson was booked on this charge. His case will be handled by the office of S.C. second circuit solicitor J. Strom Thurmond, Jr.

As with anyone accused of committing any crime, Jackson is considered innocent until proven guilty by our criminal justice system, or until such time as he may wish to enter a pleading in connection with the charge against him.
Presumption of innocence should not be difficult for prosecutors to overcome in this case, however, as the affidavit alleges the charge against Jackson was brought based on a witness statement as well as a “recording from the (detention center) video recording system.”
If convicted, Jackson could face up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $1,000.
