We knew suspended Florence County, South Carolina sheriff Kenney Boone was staring down criminal charges related to the alleged misappropriation of taxpayer funds.
But is there more to the ongoing investigation being conducted by the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED)?
According to our sources, Boone is also facing questions over alleged death threats made in connection with an anonymous social media post.
During Boone’s arraignment last month, prosecutors with the office of S.C. attorney general Alan Wilson referred to “threats” allegedly made by Boone during a discussion of his bond. Specifically, former interim S.C. fifth circuit solicitor Heather Weiss told the court “some texts were sent where threats were made about another situation.”
Boone was eventually placed under house arrest.
We briefly addressed this other “situation” in our coverage, but this news outlet has now been able to confirm more information about the incident in question – and the possible fallout for Boone as a result of it.
According to our sources, the allegedly threatening text messages referenced by Weiss were sent on or around April 11 – when Boone was confronted with an anonymous social media post impugning the integrity of his wife, Anna Hovey Boone.

The anonymous Facebook post accused Anna Boone (above) of being impregnated by a 17-year-old “high school senior” when she was in her early twenties.
This news outlet received a copy of the post but declined to publish it.
“While (Kenney) Boone brags about his sex offender registry, he has a sex offender living in his home as his wife,” the author of the anonymous post noted.
Anna Boone has flatly denied that the man with whom she was involved at the time – the father of her eldest daughter – was underage at the time of their liaison.
“I am pro-life and I’m so glad I am,” Boone said recently, referring to her decision to raise her daughter on her own. “Her father was eighteen and (we were) in a bar, I made a bad decision in my early twenties but make no mistake, I made the perfect choice is choosing life.”
Boone gets no argument whatsoever from us on that count … in fact, as staunch pro-lifers ourselves we admire her for making that decision.
But the dustup from this social media swipe appears to have produced some less-than-admirable behavior.
Regular readers of this news outlet are well aware Kenney Boone has been in a vitriolic battle with SLED for the past year. His beef with the agency began last spring when he claimed to have received death threats from Alex Curlington, Anna Boone’s ex-husband.
Curlington and Boone were married from 2006 to 2016 and have three children together. Custody of these children is currently shared between them.
Curlington is currently married to a SLED agent, Genia Curlington, and Boone was livid at the agency for not firing her – and not immediately arresting her husband – in the aftermath of last spring’s alleged threats.
[su_dominion_video_scb]Upon viewing the social media broadside against his wife – which he reportedly attributed to the Curlingtons – Boone is said to have flown “into a rage.”
What happened next is not entirely clear, but according to our sources “there were some calls made” in response to the social media post and the Curlingtons allegedly “got a visit” at around 10:00 p.m. EDT on April 11.
A visit from whom? Good question … but the post clearly set off a flurry of activity aimed getting the offending message removed from Facebook.
According to our sources, Kenney Boone went so far as to issue death threats against Alex Curlington in connection with the post.
“He may end up missing,” Anna Boone told a confidant the next day, referring to her ex-husband. “True Alabama style.”
These threats were reportedly referenced in another message sent by Anna Boone to two of her confidants, in which she informed them her husband told a SLED agent to “go to (Curlington’s) house now” and tell him “he’s done or (Boone)’s going to kill him tonight.”

Wow …
Again, Boone is no stranger when it comes to issuing threats. Last summer, this news outlet reported exclusively on threats the sheriff made against county finance director Kevin Yokim.
“If I don’t get a call back I’m gonna send a deputy around your house or wherever you are to find your ass,” Bonne barked at Yokim in a voicemail message we obtained. “Call me now!”
After calling Yokim a “nerdy, unintelligent bastard,” Boone then told the finance director “you ain’t seen hell yet.”
“I tell you what, you come to me (unintelligible) cause I’m gonna beat the -” Boone thundered. “Hell’s coming with me.”
After reviewing those voicemail recordings, the attorney general’s office declined to press charges against Boone – who appeared to be upset at Yokim after the latte questioned him over an alleged attempt by Boone to vacation with his family on the taxpayer dime.

“I assure you, and God is my witness, I will return the favor ten fold!!!” the sheriff wrote on his Facebook page, which was yanked offline shortly thereafter.
We reached out to SLED to see if the death threat allegations involving Boone were a part of its investigation but a spokesman for the agency declined to address specifics of its ongoing work.
So far, Boone has been charged with one count of common law misconduct in office and two counts of embezzlement related to allegations that he used county funds as well as money from a federal narcotics fund to purchase a variety of personal consumer items.
Federal charges could follow, as well as additional state charges.
Of interest? Last December, this news outlet exclusively reported that Boone was facing scrutiny at the county level related to the misuse of certain drug seizure funds – one of several South Carolina sheriffs under fire for such alleged misappropriation.
Stay tuned … this Pee Dee soap opera is clearly just getting warmed up.
