Trenton SC Woman Arrested For Embezzlement

Former town clerk accused of stealing $4,000 from business license account …

The former town clerk of Johnston, South Carolina has been arrested and charged with the embezzlement of public funds.

Angel Monique Miles, 36, of Trenton, S.C. was arrested by agents of the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) this week and charged with one count of embezzlement with a value of less than $10,000.

According to a probable cause affidavit accompanying a warrant for her arrest, on or before October 23 of last year Miles “did take and use for her personal use cash paid into the (town)’s business license fund and hospitality tax fund.”  The affidavit alleged Miles made off with an estimated $4,000 from the fund.

Miles’ case was investigated by SLED at the request of the town of Johnston.  She was booked at the Edgefield County detention center and her case will be handled by the office of S.C. eleventh circuit solicitor William Hubbard.

Here is the SLED news release and accompanying warrant …
