Two South Carolina correctional officers were injured during a stabbing incident at McCormick Correctional Institution in McCormick, S.C. on Monday morning.
Both officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment in the aftermath of the incident, sources close to the prison told us. No information was immediately available as to the extent of their injuries, nor is it immediately clear what precipitated the outburst of violence.
All we know at this point is a yet-to-be-identified inmate allegedly stabbed the two officers during an incident that took place at around 10:15 a.m. EST.
A level three (maximum security) South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) facility, McCormick is one of six “high-security institutions designed primarily to house violent offenders with longer sentences, and inmates who exhibit behavioral problems,” according to the SCDC website.
The facility is located approximately forty miles north of Augusta, Georgia.
