Dear Editor,
While Joe Cunningham might be new to politics, having never held an elected position, he’s already proving himself to have the sleight of hand techniques that some politicians take an entire career to master.
Cunningham’s newest half-truth was shown when he was caught fudging his résumé in his latest television commercial. Here he’s seen treading water in the ocean while claiming to be an “ocean engineer.” While the “ocean” part of his claim is correct the “engineer” part, not so much.
Turns out Cunningham has never held a professional engineer’s license, something engineers hold very sacred. An investigation is currently underway to determine if Cunningham has violated ethics regulations.
The bigger the lie the more they’ll believe it, and Joe doesn’t disappoint. He proudly claims to accept no PAC money and says his campaign is funded by small individual contributions. However, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has vowed to “Flip the First” by heavily funding and supporting his campaign.
For perspective, the DCCC put $275,000 behind Archie Parnell in 2017 in his bid to “Flip the Fifth”.
So, maybe Joe thinks $275,000 is a small individual contribution and DCCC is the initials of an aristocrat in Charleston? But the idea that he is not being funded by national committees is laughable.
South Carolina’s first congressional district doesn’t need a candidate who is willing to say anything to get elected, and it appears that’s exactly who Joe Cunningham is.
Sincerely,
Kevin M. Phillips
