Deputies of the Cherokee County, South Carolina sheriff’s office discharged their weapons during an officer-involved shooting near Blacksburg, S.C. early Sunday morning.

According to our sources, multiple white deputies responded to an incident at 547 Bear Creek Road – a residence just south of the small town (which is located around forty-five miles southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina).  Law enforcement arrived on the scene at 3:34 a.m. EDT.  The shooting took place nearly an hour later – at 4:17 a.m. EDT.

What prompted the gunfire is not immediately known.

The subject of the disturbance – a white female – “has sustained injuries” in connection with the incident.  Her identity and status were not available as of this writing.

This is the 25th officer-involved shooting in South Carolina this year.  Last year, the Palmetto State set a new record with 49 officer involved shootings.  At the request of local law enforcement, the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) will lead an investigation into what happened.  That’s a matter of protocol in forty-five of the Palmetto State’s forty-six counties (Richland County being the notable exception).
