A North Carolina man has been arrested by South Carolina law enforcement agents and charged with a sex crime involving a minor in Horry County, S.C.
Ehab Mohamed Elmenshawi, 41, of Davidson, N.C. was arrested this week by agents of the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and charged with one count of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the first degree.
According to a probable cause affidavit accompanying the warrant for Elmenshawi’s arrest, the alleged criminal sexual contact occurred “on or between June 2012 and June 2013.” The alleged victim was “less than eleven years of age” at the time.
The gender of the alleged victim was not specified.

Elmenshawi was booked at the J. Ruben Long Detention Center in Horry County and his case will be prosecuted by the office of S.C. fifteenth circuit solicitor Jimmy Richardson. SLED was asked to investigate the case by the city of Conway, S.C. police department, presumably because it involved an out-of-state defendant.

[/timed-content-server]As with anyone accused of committing any crime, Elwenshawi should be considered innocent until proven guilty by our criminal justice system (or until such time as he may choose to issue a pleading in connection with the charges filed against him).
Criminal sexual conduct in the first degree is a felony in South Carolina. Those convicted of this crime face up to thirty years in prison.
As we have stated repeatedly in the past, however, we believe harsher sentences are in order when it comes to certain sex crimes against children.
“It is our belief that individuals found guilty of raping children who have yet to attain the age of consent (male or female) should face death for their crime,” we wrote back in the spring.
