Dear Editor,
With gas costing much more throughout Europe (~$8 per gallon) and most everywhere else save for oil producing countries and the United States … South Carolina’s increase is minuscule. Actually, we should all be paying more as America’s infrastructure is at the end of its service life.
I have driven across the country nine times through about three dozen states, and South Carolina’s interstate conditions don’t bode well for the state. Interstate 85 looks neglected – almost no highway lights were functioning as of 2015, and damaged signs were everywhere.
Interstate 20’s shoulder signs were rarely standing straight up, which again makes the state look primitive.
Interstate 95 is aging and will need major repairs eventually.
So, the gas tax is absolutely a must for a growing state that needs to spruce things up so we can be proud of her and America in general.
Thanks for listening.
Sincerely,
Stephen Edwards
