Multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating a fatal collision involving a freight train in Ravenel, South Carolina.
According to the Charleston County, S.C. sheriff’s office, the collision occurred at around 3:00 a.m. EDT near S.C. Highway 162 and McCombs Road. It involved a pickup truck and a CSX train.
“The pickup truck approached the railroad tracks while the crossing arms were down and the lights and audible signals were activated,” a release from the sheriff’s office noted. “The truck did not stop at the traffic signal and collided with the train. The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene.”

[/timed-content-server]The driver of the truck has been identified as 48-year-old Sidtonio Smalls of Hollywood, S.C. No one else was in the truck with him at the time of the accident.
No one on the train was injured, no cars derailed and no cargo was damaged, according to a statement from CSX.
The crash shut down Highway 162 for several hours while emergency response crews worked the scene.
